3 uses?[edit]

Only three uses? What about the perennial favourite in combination with a high sneak skill of sneaking up, getting a sneak-attack-critical-hit (killing many already) with immediate reinvisibilization - doesn't it work anymore? --93.232.161.108 21:24, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Merchants?[edit]

Just wondering, where can i get this spell? I have asked different spell merchants around Skyrim but I cant find anybody who sells an invisibility spell.Thanks.RIM 18:48, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

It becomes available for sale after skill level 75 in Illusion, from Drevis Neloren, the Illusion trainer at the College of Winterhold.
Also, I suggest adding a note to the "noticed if you swing a weapon" part of the page that sound is made by all weapons except for daggers. Even if one misses with a dagger, even a triple-hit double-wield power attack right behind the enemy, one will not be heard. Its actually 65; all tomes become available 10 skilllevels prior to when u could invest in that perk, being at 40, 65 and master quest at 90 be sure to renew the sellers inventory when u reach that skill level by either waiting for 2 days or saving, killing the vendor and reloading your save — Unsigned comment by 78.125.176.82 (talk) at 23:50 on 8 January 2013

Possibly buggy[edit]

(PC/Steam Version) When I finally got the relevant skill to 75, I got the book (found it actually), learned the spell, and was very disappointed. I figured that between Invisibility and Muffle it would be as good as a Get Out Of A Beating Free combo. Umm.... Not so. I can be in the next room merrily walking around near dimwitted enemies who don't even care, start sneaking, cast Muffle, and then cast Invisibility, and then the crosshairs pretty much go straight to the wide-opened eye state and everyone becomes fully aware of where I am to the degree you'd think I was singing showtunes at the top of my lungs while on fire. I'm pretty sure being invisible and sneaking is supposed to be more effective than sneaking while visible, so I'm going to suggest that possibly something is bugged. Indoors, outdoors, doesn't really matter. Invisibility seems to make me about as subtle as Nyan Cat -- Dagmar d'Surreal 18:17, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Without quiet casting this skill just sucks bad. Or so I've heard. It could be an attempt to make it fairer than it was in previous games... if you had invisibility in Oblivion, you pretty much beat everything on any mode with or without sneak. — Unsigned comment by 75.37.205.204 (talk) at 16:36 on 26 December 2011
Invisibility was changed so sneaks aren't godmode until they get Shadow Warrior. --Ravage 21:07, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, i checked and confirmed that unless you have silent casting, invisibility spell radiates constant noise for the whole duration, making enemies VERY alert of your presence. Potions are unaffected, however, so you can still use potions to be "godmode sneak"... although it costs you gold... 194.190.40.89 10:59, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Scales with Illusion rank?[edit]

The degree to which the character is invisible seems to scale with the player's rank in Illusion. This effect can be seen drastically when using a potion of Fortify Illusion (2000% created with the Fortify Restoration exploit) where the character's outline will no longer be visible and can only be identified by the glowing Invisibility spell "cube" in the character's hand. --24.102.140.254 01:28, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Followers?[edit]

I assume that activating an invisibility effect also makes your follower invisible? Anyone know? --Jreynolds2Talk 18:09, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Casting the invisibility spell seems to only cause you to be invisible, not your follower. --Razorsoup 20:38, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Clarification on the buggedness of invisiblity[edit]

I was having same problems as other people, enemies randomly seeing me when invisible. It was even ridiculous - i could sneak up to an enemy from front Or from behind (high sneak skill, in darkness) but if i'd cast invisibility beforehand (outside their hearing range) they would detect me the moment i get a certain distance up to them. I was looking for answer in different

I think i found the answer.

If you drink an invisibility potion, it works perfectly. Except, the armor will still make noise so you can still be detected that way (if you are not muffled with a combined magnitude of 1 or more, the more armor weight you have the further distance away you'd be heard). And of course bumping into someone will alert them of your presence.

If you cast a spell however, it seems to randomly radiate the spellcasting sound for the whole the spell's duration. So, if you DO NOT have the silent casting perk, when you move, invisible from the spell, you are constantly (or at random moments) making a noise as if you'd be casting the spell over and over again.

Having the silen casting perk fixes this! I checked numerous times and if i have the perk, i can move invisible (from the spell) with no problems! This is obviously a bug, but a very balancing one (since invisibility is very powerful and this kinda makes you invest some perks in order to be able to easily stay undetected, since casting is free but drinking potions isnt)

If someone can confirm this please add this information to the main page of the article

PS: Holding a spell out does not radiate any visible light and doesnt help your enemy to detect you. Only casting w/o silent casting does. 194.190.40.89 10:40 am, 18 January 2012, Wednesday (11 months, 27 days ago) (UTC+0)

I really wouldnt call this a bug, i think u could either take the illusion tree as a mage or as a rogue; rogue part being ofc silent casting, muffle, invisibility and sneak, and the mage part being for purely the frenzy/calm/fear spells — Unsigned comment by 78.125.176.82 (talk) at 23:53 on 8 January 2013
Not a bug, but badly made. Having to use perk points to be silent via the Illusion skill tree really compromises the usefulness of the spell. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:24, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
I don't have the quiet casting perk, and it works fine for me, of course my sneak skill is maxed and has all the perks except the highest perks. But it doesn't make a sound or anything that would alert my enemies ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 20:45, 20 February 2013 (GMT)

I really need the Potion of invisibility[edit]

I had looked everywhere for this potion to complete a quest and can't find it. Plz help — Unsigned comment by 74.78.70.26 (talk) at 16:30 on 7 March 2012

Invisibility and/vs shadow warrior???[edit]

Does shadow warrior actually cause enemies to have to search for you or does it just cast invisibility for a second? Could i use crouch and invisibility to get the same effect as shadow warrior but for longer? I've done so much resarch only to find some people saying that you need shadow warrior to break detection and use invisibility right in front of the enemy, and then I find other people saying the exact opposite. — Unsigned comment by 101.161.37.48 (talk) at 11:29 on 14 June 2013

Answer: 1) Casting Invisibility spell does NOT break combat, while crouching with Shadow Warrior perk does - this is the ONLY difference. 2) In practice, this means that Shadow Warrior allows you to perform sneak attacks toe-to-toe on plain sight with 100% success. With Invisibility the chance is MUCH lower, since the in-game combat mode is still on and enemies are actively looking for you. 3) Casting Invisibility and performing sneak attack takes a little more time than Shadow Warrior crouch and sneak attack. — Unsigned comment by 87.99.5.183 (talk) at 23:07 on 4 November 2013

Enemies detect invisible units when not crouching.[edit]

As the title says, why is it that when I'm not crouching during invisibility, enemies can still see me? I also have all the perks in Sneak tree and 100 in illusion with Quiet Casting perk. When I cast invisibility and then run towards an enemy without bumping at them the game will suddenly enter combat mode and enemies will start swinging their weapons at me while I'm invisible! Is this a bug or it's just how it is designed to work? You're only invisible while crouching but not while standing? — Unsigned comment by Incohatus (talkcontribs) at 07:53 on 23 February 2014

As it says in the article, if you make a sound you can be detected, invisibility only stops you being detected by sight. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:34, 23 February 2014 (GMT)
But I already have quiet casting perk and 100 in illusion and also the 'silence' perk in sneak and 100 in it (like I said above), so how come I'm still detected? Incohatus (talk) 02:00, 25 February 2014 (GMT)
That perk doesn't work unless you are sneaking. --AN|L (talk) 02:56, 25 February 2014 (GMT)
Just as I thought. Thanks for verifying it. Incohatus (talk) 03:29, 25 February 2014 (GMT)
Not quite — Silence (along with Muffled Movement, the Muffle spell, and the Muffle enchantment) works by simply decreasing your MovementNoiseMult actor value, which affects your movement noise even if you're not sneaking. For example, if you're invisible and you have the Silence perk, it's possible to dance in circles around low-detection enemies like bandits without alerting them, without sneaking.
[In response to the first question] This is normal. Some enemies have good hearing (Forsworn Briarhearts in particular are insanely keen of hearing), and, apparently, the player always makes a little bit of noise even when fully muffled and standing still, doing nothing. Apparently, MovementNoiseMult is true to its name and only affects movement noise, whereas Sneak Mode reduces both movement noise and baseline noise. -- Lid-Mop (talk) 18:15, 17 October 2014 (GMT)

Invisibility and Ebony Mail[edit]

It is possible to attack enemies with the Ebony Mail's poison cloak effect while remaining invisible, however the enemy will need to be alert and looking to fight in advance. One way this can be accomplished is by shooting an arrow into the environment to alert the enemy, and then turning invisible before detected. Bluegunstarhero (talk) 15:45, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

This possibly also applies to the new Lord's Mail item. —Legoless (talk) 16:16, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
