Medium armor?[edit]

What does it mean? Medium armor does not present in Skyrim, and an addition of shield does not transform Light armor to Medium. Anyway, in terms of game mechanics this is just the same Light armor. I'd say this is confusing and should be removed. Phoenix Neko 06:56, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

The point is that they give you a choice of armor: Light, Medium or Heavy, so the information is correct. --Arkhon 09:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, then it should be properly described in the article. Phoenix Neko 14:11, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
There actually is medium armor in the game, its light armor with an additional layer of chainmail over the shoulders.174.254.167.80 02:29, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
No, there is not. It is just banded or just the same armor with different look. --Arkhon 05:04, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
I chose Medium and ended up with Light Armor with a Heavy shield. 122.148.137.210 07:44, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
The Medium kit gives you Imperial Studded Armor, which is more protective than Imperial Light Armor and less protective than the Heavy Imperial Armor (listed as Imperial Armor in-game). It's only listed as light armor in-game because there isn't a "Medium" armor classification. --Lee 95 03:52, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Choose Sides?[edit]

i was wondering...where is better for us to join? imperial or stormcloacks? i mean from the earns and benefits in the end of their quests... — Unsigned comment by Misusel (talkcontribs) at 18:39 on 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Basically both ways grant you with the same results. It depends how you feel about the whole lore thing. --Arkhon 21:33, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Seconded, there is no specific advantage. There is no "good vs evil" choice. There might be impact later, in future DLC. — Unsigned comment by 216.221.62.92 (talk) at 06:23 on 9 January 2012 (UTC)
If I were you, I would join the Imperial Legion first as their initiation quest is much easier, then in the quest the Jagged Crown give the crown to the storm cloaks.GH36 02:12, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Battling for Forts[edit]

This has happened for me on both The Battle for Fort Dunstad (which I bypassed by completing Dragonslayer) and The Battle for Fort Greenwall- when I initially get the quest, no map marker shows up. After fast-traveling near the fort, the marker for the men I'm supposed to meet with is there, but the men are not present. When I approach the fort I find it deserted save the horses even though the quest updates and tells me to kill the defenders. Waiting does not fix this, nor does leaving, messing around for a while, and then returning. I am playing on the PS3 version. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you found a way to fix it, avoid it, and/or get around it? — Unsigned comment by 129.15.131.156 (talk) at 07:32 on 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Update:

After my experience with Fort Dunstad, I saved before Fort Greenwald and so was able to experiment a bit. The series of events which got me past it was this: before accepting the mission, I went and discovered Fort Greenwald and killed everyone inside, including the horses. I then returned to the camp and accepted the mission. I then fast-traveled directly to the fort, at which point the Stormcloaks had actually spawned. The first time I followed these steps I used the shout Aura Whisper, and after beating the Stormcloacks down to 90% they all mysteriously vanished, leaving me unable to complete the mission. The second time I followed these steps I used the shout Call Dragon and was finally able to successfully wipe out the Stormcloaks.

I am unsure how many of these steps are necessary to trigger the mission, and am unwilling to lose my progress to test alternate methods. My suspicion is that discovering the fort and fast-traveling directly there helped. Beyond that, I'm not sure if the rest was happenstance or if it was necessary.

I killed everyone inside before accepting the mission in hopes of clearing the fort and getting a radiant option to tell the Legate I had already cleared the fort; obviously, this did not work. When clearing the fort, I used Aura Whisper on accident the first time and Call Dragon purposely the second simply because I thought it would be cool to have my dragon murdering Stormcloaks left and right. If you are having this problem and are as frustrated by it as I was, I would simply follow all of the successful steps and see if it works for you. — Unsigned comment by 129.15.131.156 (talk) at 08:10 on 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Update #2:

On The Battle for Fort Amol I began with the same basic problem of the map marker not appearing. Luckily, I had already discovered Fort Amol so I simply fast-traveled to it; this time I had no problems completing the quest. This reinforces the idea that discovering the fort before beginning the quest and then fast-traveling to it once the quest begins may solve the problem. — Unsigned comment by 129.15.131.156 (talk) at 08:48 on 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Bugs Gone Wild[edit]

I have run into bugs all over this questline, bugs I never ran into on the Stormcloak version. If you've been having this problem as well, the general solution I've found is to try continuing as though you didn't run into the bug. For instance, if you're supposed to meet men somewhere and find that they simply aren't there, proceed to the next part of the mission as though they were. This has worked on most problems for me, with the exception of the aforementioned 'The Battle for Fort X' problem.

A further bit of advice would be to wait until you run into a truly game-stopping bug before you finish the Dragonslayer quest- it seems to act as a single-use get-out-of-quest-free card on this quest line. — Unsigned comment by 129.15.131.156 (talk) at 08:37 on 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Finishing this Bloody Quest[edit]

After finally finishing The Battle for Fort Amol I was completely unable to get the Legate to start the battle for Windhelm. She didn't respond to any of the normal resets, like fast-traveling away, knocking her down through a powerful power attack, or using Ice Form on her. In an odd twist, a dragon attacked the camp; after slaying it, she started the battle like normal. I think this may be exploitable if anyone else is having a similar problem- simply find an enemy and lure it into the camp, and see if she'll begin the conversation after it is killed. — Unsigned comment by 129.15.131.156 (talk) at 09:19 on 6 December 2011 (UTC)

I had it same way, the quest marker was pointing at her but she wouldn't let me start any quest-related conversation (she was repeating just a random generated quotes). I solved it by just going straight to Windhelm to capture the city... --Arkhon 04:17, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
I had the same issue at a different fort battle. The solution was to do what was suggested in "Battling for Forts." You have to go where the quest is supposed to send you and clear it out yourself. Then it will reset and allow you get the quest. The same applies to any other section of the quest chain that's stuck. Find out where you're supposed to go and do it anyway. Otherwise the quest marker stays above Rikke's head and you cannot get her to do anything. 75.80.97.155 09:37, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Not the same quests[edit]

I am currently playing the imperial side but I don't have the same quests as it is said in this section, for exemple I had to take the fort snowhawk in Hjaalmarch but for the imperial side not for the stormcloaks, an other example is that I had to rescue prisoners from Fort Kastav just after the battle for Fort Dunstad, I didn't have the battle for Fort Greenwall. I think this is due to the fact that I already did the main quest and during the negociation part I gave some Holds to the stormcloaks and others to the imperial side, I think I gave the Rift for the Legion so it's maybe the reason why I don't have the quest "battle for Fort Greenwall". So I think that the quest for the Imperial Legion depends on what happen during the negociation during the main quest. — Unsigned comment by 88.186.105.89 (talk) at 11:09 on 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Correct, the quests depend on Season Unending. You will get 1 quest for each hold the Stormcloaks control. --Killfetzer 23:07, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
It is of course logical that one should retake holds lost during the Season Unending negotiations. General Tullius will use every opportunity at the corresponding stage of the campaign to sourly remind you that it is your fault. Should there not have been some sort of explanation or at least mentioning of this? (As I have not done Stormcloaks in any playthrough yet, I have not checked if there are any similar commenting to eventually corresponding additions or changes in the Stormcloak quest line. --MortenOSlash 06:19, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Rift Imperial Camp[edit]

Hello, I am currently working on something that involves the Rift Imperial Camp. Let's call it a mod. I was wondering what happens to it over the course of the Civil War Story. I've noticed most Imperial Camps do not spawn until deeper into the story, however this one is here and I have not even begun it just yet. I wanted to do something at this site, but I am afraid that my content may be lost due to missing information later on in the game, depending on the decisions the player makes. Does the camp ever terminate or no? In other words, if a player chooses the Stormcloak Side and finishes the Civil War Story, will the Rift Imperial Camp still be here? In the meantime I will do a quick run-through of the Civil War Story and join the Stormcloaks to see for myself. I just wanted more information, that's all. Thank you. 12:31 AM 30, Dec 2011 (CST). — Unsigned comment by 50.103.46.55 (talk) at 06:31 on 30 December 2011 (UTC)

If you side with the stormcloaks, the imperial camps will remain where they were permanently. If you play with the imperials, they will remove the camps as soon as ulfric's dead. — Unsigned comment by DelosFandas (talkcontribs) at 04:13 on 25 January 2012

Complete Imperial Questline ...[edit]

I've finished the Battle of Windhelm but still the Questline doesn't seem to count as finished. My Counter for the Number of finished Questlines still says 0. The Number of Civil War Quests finished is 9 ... which also can't be right, for I finished many more Quests for the Imperials about a Dozen or so. Is this a bug? Can anyone confirm this? Greetings, Julian — Unsigned comment by 88.130.119.72 (talk) at 20:40 on 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Correct, I have this same problem as well. Also, battle music did not stop playing after the Battle of Windhelm. 91.152.185.135 12:16, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
I am having some kind of weird bug with my file. I finished the Battle of Windhelm, yet it says I haven't finished that questline. It also says I have finished 8 missions, and I have done way more than that, unless Reunification of Skyrim is just one gigantic quest. If someone has this same problem and has found a way to fix it, please help. Thanks — Unsigned comment by 68.52.130.121 (talk) at 18:16 on 16 January 2012)
The Battle Music Didn't stop for a while for me and hadvar kept following me.You can fix this by exiting Windhelm through the town gate rather than fast traveling.Dont know if this marks the quest as done though. — Unsigned comment by Daedroth497 (talkcontribs) at 20:01 on 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Dialogue[edit]

The game has many dialogue variations based on player choices but interestingly enough if you have already killed the emperor it interesting enough does not bring up any changes that I've noticed; despite references to "the emperor" constantly mentioned in casual speech. Perhaps I missed some dialogue-- has anyone noticed any changes if you've already removed the emperor? 75.80.97.155 06:29, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

I've checked, nothing happens for killing of the emperor for any potential missing dialogue. It is probably because the game scripts him not "part of the imperials", because it said he's part of the "FavorExcludedFaction". Also, it'll probably ruin the imperial missions if everyone finds out that you killed the emperor. But other than that, there's no unique dialogue I can think of, other than the soldiers (and possibly some stormcloak guards if you haven't progressed that far) commenting that the emperor was killed. — Unsigned comment by 130.157.32.235 (talk) at 05:43 on 2 March 2012

Miscellaneous: Reporting to Jarl of Whiterun[edit]

I have (like everyone else) found bug after "Battle of Winterhold". I have mission in micellaneous that says: Report back to Jarl of Whiterun. But when I go to talk with the Jarl there's only four the possibility of discussing. I have tried every possibilities and I still have the mission in journal.

If someone have solution for this, please help...

Bug/glitch[edit]

Okay, I goto the Imperial Camp in Eastmarch and I get the quest to attack fort amol, all's fine here. But when it says to group with the men joining the attack, they arn't there. Okay, So i goto the fort aswell, as if they were there, but this time the stormcloaks arn't there. Only a few bodies, including: Corpse, Corpse, Burnt Corpse. It doesn't even say 'Stormcloak soldier' just 'Corpse'. How do I fix this? — Unsigned comment by 2.125.222.111 (talk) at 15:01 on 26 February 2012 (UTC)

I used console commands to auto finish quest. — Unsigned comment by 66.68.95.63 (talk) at 00:45 on 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Note: I completed dragonslayer before this, would this affect? — Unsigned comment by 2.125.222.111 (talk) at 15:01 on 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Probably not. These corpses would have been there anyway. Did you arrive at the quest marker point and find no-one, or did you go straight into the fort without visiting the quest marker first? --MortenOSlash 06:07, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi guys, would you mind using some helpful wiki markup for asking/providing help? Also, consider using our IRC channel for this kind of thing. --WerdnanoslenTalk 05:26, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
IRC channel or forum, maybe. Yes, I think it might be more appropriate places. I have nothing against trying to answer it her for my part, anyway, but if the administrators of this wiki find it misplaced, I guess they will remove it all if it does not fit in, and it is still fine by me. --MortenOSlash 06:07, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Maps at the castle Dour/ Forts controlled by the Imperial[edit]

At the Castle Dour of Solitude there's a map with small flags on the table, by clicking the small flags you will get your map updated. I got my map updated, one day, just doing some quests (or learning shouts from ruins, whatever), I found myself very near a fort that Imperial controlled. Normally there's nothing wrong with it, but after I decided to go into the fort to discover it for later fast travel point, I found whole fort is occupied by a bunch of necromancers and their happy skeleton friends? Shouldn't it supposed to be controlled by the Imperial, not something angry mobs that will fight and kill everything on sight? — Unsigned comment by Templarphoenix (talkcontribs) at 19:29 on 1 March 2012

The game does not fill inn Imperials or Stormcloaks until it is needed for quest reasons. Before the appropriate side's soldiers are filled in there, it is occupied by hostile NPCs of different kinds. A bit like Fort Hraggstad before you take it for the Imperials. --MortenOSlash 06:12, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Seems not filled with soldiers until needed. Just fully cleared a fort because I want to kill some bandits, and then some days later I feel I just need some extra septims for a house, so I travel back to the fort...eh, the fort now filled with imperial soldiers. and I left civil war quest alone at this safe. — Unsigned comment by Templarphoenix (talkcontribs) at 13:58 on 21 November 2012
To address the original issue: The strategy maps, including the one you mention, do not correctly update at present. On PCs, this can be fixed by the installing the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. As noted on the "fixed issues" link from that page, it will be necessary to visit each affected map twice before the cleanup can take effect on existing saves. --JR (talk) 14:37, 21 November 2012 (GMT)
Now I know how to fix this...just clear all the things inside the fort (bandits, necromancers or whatever), after few days the forts are garrisoned with soldiers (imperials or stormcloaks). — Unsigned comment by Templarphoenix (talkcontribs) at 09:23 on 10 February 2013

Effects of Promotions?[edit]

Does moving up the ranks in the legion carries any practical consequences (beyond how Imperial NPCs may refer to you)? --JRTalk E-mail 03:19, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Nope, nothing aside from this and the "gift" from Tulius. Elakyn 07:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

New Stormcloak field camp at Whiterun?[edit]

After finishing the civil war quests on the imperial side, I noticed there are a couple tents near Whiterun, basically behind the Honningbrew meadery. It looks like a stormcloak camp, except it is empty. All tents etc are empty, except for the big one, which has a table and a map on it and a stormcloak soldier (not hostile). This "cmap" is not marked on the map. Is this a bug, maybe this temporal camp which the stormcloaks used to battle Whiterun, and then it somehow got stuck there? 85.66.211.226 22:57, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that is the Stormcloaks Whiterun Military Camp. Not sure if it should disappear. The Silencer speaksTalk 23:05, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I found it too. I was just thinking why is it no tlisted on this page in the list of camps? Shouldn't be mentioned there? 85.66.211.226 14:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
If it went anywhere, it would be on the Stormcloaks page. As it is, it should only appear when the Stormcloaks attack Solitude during the Stormcloak questline (not certain about Imperial questline), so I'm not sure it should really be considered the same type of camp as the others. Vely►Talk►Email 15:27, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
In both questlines, the tents (but not the catapults) remain behind after the battle is over. The fast-travel destination for the camp only appears in the Stormcloak questline, and only during the battle quest. --Morrolan (talk) 13:39, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

Who to join after having done the Jagged Crown quest?[edit]

If what you're saying is true, and it *is* about joining the Stormcloaks - it doesn't belong on this page. At all. This page is about the Imperial Legion, so it shouldn't be here at all if thats the case. I personally think its about the chance to join the Legion after initially picking the Stormcloaks. --kiz talkemail 19:10, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
If that should be so, I would rather have had it "[…] at the end of the quest for the Stormcloacks you can just bring the crown to the Imperials in Solitude […]". (My addition in italics.) --MortenOSlash 19:17, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

(edit conflict) This string of recent edits has been caused by the correction of a paragraph about joining the Legion. Several editors seem to think the paragraph is about how to join the Stormcloaks without failing the "Join the Legion" quest. However, the revised version makes a lot more sense, as it explains how to switch sides even after joining the Stormcloaks, which is far more relevant and (in my opinion) makes a lot more sense in this context. Can we get some discussion going before more merciless reverting? —Legoless 19:11, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Dismissing a follower in camp[edit]

After joining the legion and reporting to a camp as ordered, I decided to dismiss my follower (Lydia). As soon as she stopped being my follower, the soldiers in the camp instantly went on the defensive and started snarling at her; and when she didn't get out of the camp fast enough to suit them, they started a fight that didn't end until she'd killed one of them, at which point they all went back to ignoring each other. I'd like to add a warning about being cautious where you dismiss followers, but I don't know if it's unique to the army camps, or unique to Lydia, or just a bug. Anyone else seen this? Invisible soldiers and hidden music?[edit]

So with my most recent character i joined the strormcloaks and started the questline. some interesting things happened along the way, first of all when i took over whiterun after completing season unending, at one point a song i had never heard after 300+ hours on skyrim started playing, i can't exactly describe it here but i surely had never heard it in skyrim before so if anyone can confirm this let me know. Second, once i started taking over forts, after the first initial wave of imperials, some would become invisible, they would show up as red dots and could attack me and my allies, but i couldn't see them, not even an outline.JCsquared (talk) 23:26, 16 October 2012 (GMT)

Fix for forts being cleared out?[edit]

After deciding to go through Skyrim again, I noticed that the forts I cleared out (pre-civil war) were not being occupied by their respective sides. I thought this odd, as they were immediately occupied by the Stormcloaks or Imperials after clearing the forts out during my previous run, but I decided this was just a minor issue that would be fixed once I started the Civil War. However, upon doing the Civil War up until after the Battle for Whiterun (Imperial), I then checked the forts to see if they were now occupied and only those on the Stormcloaks' side and Fort Hraggstad have been occupied, with all other Imperial forts still being run by bandits or whatnot. No matter how many times I clear the forts out, they will not be occupied by the Imperials, which is infuriating for me; is there some console command to force their occupation (something along the lines of changing a global variable or such)? I realize it's not crucial to the story, but my OCD will not let me proceed until this issue is fixed; I've tried disabling the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, forcing clear states via the console but nothing seems to work. --23.16.89.61 03:11, 4 December 2012 (GMT)

Moved from article[edit]

  • As in the province of Morrowind, the Imperial Legion in Skyrim has an aesthetic based on the legions of ancient Rome. This homage is now referenced in the rank structure, whereas the Imperial Legion of Morrowind had a rank structure which had the theme of a chivalric order.

This isn't really relevant to this article, is it? ThuumofReason (talk) 15:22, 17 March 2014 (GMT)

I think it's mildly interesting, and is appropriate for the Notes section. I knew that the Cyrodillic Empire was Imperial Rome themed, but hadn't noticed the difference between MW & SR ranks, having only barely started replaying MW. --Xyzzy Talk 15:49, 17 March 2014 (GMT)

Stormcloak camps warnings[edit]

I've noticed I'm not welcome on the Stormcloak camps even when I haven't joined the Imperial faction. I talked to General Tullius, but I still have to take the quest from Legate Rikke. In my quest journal I still have the "Join the Imperial Legion" objective.

Could it be that simply telling General Tullius that you might be interested in joining the faction is enough to make the Stormcloak patrols and camps to hate you?

They don't attack on sight, but they give those warnings.

I have also talked to Ulfric about joining the Stormcloaks, so far I haven't accepted any of them, but the Imperial camps and patrols are quite friendly to me even after speaking to Ulfric.

The camps hostile to me are those found near Solitude and Whiterun, haven't checked on other holds but I suppose they will be mad at me too.

— Unsigned comment by 84.120.10.37 (talk) on 223:42, 15 November 2014 (GMT)

I had the same issue after the quest Season Unending. I hadn't joined any side, nor accepted their quest to join. Both options were still active in my Misc quests. For me, both, stormcloaks and imperials started warning me when I aproached, and fighting if I didn't leave. I play with some mods, so I cant say its a bug, may be caused by the mods. I solved it by tiping in the console:
"player.addfac 28849 0" and then
"player.addfac 2BF9A 0" withoug quotation marks. (The IDs are the faction IDs for stormcloak and imperials respectively, and the zero removes the player from their faction).
After that, camps stopped saying I was trespassing, and both sides still offered their quest to join, so it seemed to work fine. --Balmora (talk) 11:32, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Balmora, you saved me. Thanks about that tip. The Legion was always hostile to me and only those commands fixed it. I tried sleeping a week, using stopcombat, paying bounties etc and nothing worked except those commands.--RonDamon (talk) 20:54, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Disorder in the camp[edit]

This is a bug I've encountered several times over multiple playthroughs - when ordered to report to whichever Imperial camp is next for my new orders, if I haven't already discovered the camp before receiving the quest, everybody in the camp, Rikke included, is immediately hostile to me, and will start attacking relentlessly unless I either kill them or pacify them somehow. Even if I do, I get nothing but hostile dialogue from them, Rikke included. So far, the only fix I've found is to go back to the last save before I got the quest and make sure to discover the camp before Tullius orders me there. --Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 23:10, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Haafingar Imperial camp[edit]
