Tip[edit]

Activate the statue at the beginning to take back the wuuthrad weapon. — Unsigned comment by 50.42.132.79 (talk) at 15:52 on 18 November 2011

It's already on the article, or at least it's mentioned that you can reclaim it. --Krusty 16:24, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Witch's Heads quest items[edit]

Not sure if this is a glitch or intended behavior, but when I did this quest last night I had cleared out the Glenmoril Coven, so I had 5 witch heads in my inventory, all quest items. After completing the quest they weren't quest items anymore, so I could remove them from my inventory, which I did. However, I decided to move them to another container where I store only important items for later, and as soon as I picked them up, they became quest items again and couldn't be removed. --QuillanTalk 16:27, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

In my game there was a bug where Eorlund somehow ends up outside city walls and the questline gets stuck in "attend Kodlak's funeral". Use the console to teleport him back to skyforge. GVBN 12:02, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

What is the console command that should be used? — Unsigned comment by 98.204.192.15 (talk) at 07:42 on 27 November 2011
Comment: I did this, and it crashed my game lol... I just went back to a previous save and killed the Silver Hand again. Worked the second time, no glitch. ~Rocker; November 23, 2013 — Unsigned comment by 69.133.56.167 (talk) at 02:37 on 24 November 2013

"Kodak Whitman"[edit]

It spells it this way in the ps3 version, too. Looks like they forgot to turn spellcheck off. Is that a bug? — Unsigned comment by 2.123.201.200 (talk) at 07:59 on 9 December 2011

Another Bug[edit]

After Kodlak's funeral, I went to meet the circle but no one was talking to me. the only option was talking to Farkas for a job. I clicked on that and the game crashed. So I got back from the last auto-save, but still no one was talking, although they should have been speaking about Kodlak's death. So I simply used the console and typed player.setstage C06 30 and the quest went on, with a dialogue finally happening between the members of the circle. Eorlund arrived with the axe, and since then everything was ok. I do not usually write on wiki, but I think this could be of some help to those who got stuck in the same situation.— Unsigned comment by 46.127.115.225 (talk) at 01:35 on 10 December 2011

Bug on Trip to the Tomb[edit]

If you attempt to follow the Circle to tomb, you'll reach a point just after you run through Dawnstar where they just simply travel back and forth up and down a mountain. I tried using Clairvoyance, but it gives the same path for you to take. It also leads you up and back down the mountain with no path leading away. Very strange. Oddboyout 13:25, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I've just discovered the same funny thing when I try to follow them. It turns out that they cycle back and forward. Formally speaking, Bethesda didn' make a good job concernig pathfinding of NPC's. I always have problems with followers and thralls in these icy waters and now I see that this is not an accident. The NPC simply don't see a valid path through many things.--31.128.147.18 21:19, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
I found a fix to this bug on PC. I don't think anyone is reading this anymore but if anyone does, the console can fix it. You need to get far enough east past Nightcaller temple and Dawnstar (For me it was Alfthand) then use prid 1a693, prid 1a695 and prid 1a697 along with moveto player in the console after every prid. This will move Farkas Vilkas and Aela to you and cause them to resume normal pathing as you are far enough east they no longer circle back towards Dawnstar. — Unsigned comment by 208.81.199.135 (talk) at 07:59 on 17 June 2018

Possible bug.[edit]

I am writing on here before I add it to the page to see if it should be added, if it's a known bug, one off, etc... Anyways, I was attending his funeral, and when Aela went to light his body, she froze and wouldn't light it, I walked away, came back and she was still bugged out. I had to resort in hitting her until she came to and finally she lit it. Is this worth noting at all? JackTurbo95 17:57, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Circle members Aela, Vilkas and Farkas bug/glitch after Glory of the Dead quest (PC)[edit]

After curing Kodlak's spirit by defeating his wolf spirit, Aela, Vilkas and Farkas say that they'll return to Jorvaskr later, but when I fast travelled to Whiterun and went to Jorvaskr, they weren't there. I slept for 6 hours then waited for 24 hours more, but they still weren't there. I tried to find their location by turning on my quest marker "Talk to the Companion leaders for work", but no quest markers appear. Has anyone encountered and fixed this? If so, how? — Unsigned comment by 115.64.67.17 (talk) at 20:57 on 28 December 2011

This happened to me recently as well; I think it might have something to do with the fact that I killed Kodlak's wolf spirit so quickly, that the quest updated strangely (it was dead before I was told to kill it on screen). The quest is completed, but the shape next to "Kill the wolf spirit" is unfilled, despite there being a filled shape on the "Speak to Kodlak" objective above it.--Lovless510 00:04, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
It happened to me when I cleansed myself. I killed Kodlak's wolf spirit and Aela talked to me then started walking around the room like she is supposed to. After I used the Flame of the Harbinger again and defeated my spirit wolf together with Aela and my follower, Aela vanished into thin air. Neither she nor Vilkas or Farkas showed up again and the 'Talk to the companions leaders for work' quest has no markers anymore. --84.175.166.209 16:36, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
It Happened to me too. After waiting and nothing happening I went back to Ysgramor's Tomb and I saw them running to leave to Jorrvaskr. I fast traveled there and there they were.Pizza_Boy 18:11, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Got that bug for every game replay, but this time waiting didn't help at all (nor near tomb, nor in the other places). So I returned to the tomb, checked all "You are the new harbringer, YAY!"-lines of dialogues and took Farkas as follower to fast-travel into Whiterun. When follower was released in a town he tried to run back to the tomb (lol, he's really an icebrain). So I escorted him inside meadhall and released again. This time he ran to the basement, so I decided that's ok and waited for 1 hour. Markers appeared showing him in the basement and Vilkas & Aela somewhere between Winterhold and Windhelm. Hope that will help others. Sorry for my english, i'm not a native speaker. [Rattebfanger] — Unsigned comment by 178.64.38.179 (talk) at 14:30 on 18 February 2012
Just to note, I don't believe this bug is necessarily related to how fast you kill Kodlak's wolf spirit. I also killed the spirit so quickly that the Objective marker telling you to do so has not greyed out, however the Companions have all returned to Jorrvaskr and are giving quests as normal. Threepwood87 22:16, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

I found a dragon priest dagger in the tomb. Does anyone know if that is random or static?[edit]

If that is not random, it is definitely an artifect to be picked and should include it in notes of this page. --Joshua.yathin.yu 09:07, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Bug while meeting the circle[edit]

After attending the funeral, I went to the underforge. While the NPC's were talking, I accidently left the underforge, and now I can't trigger the dialogue again and the quest still says "meet the circle". I've tried using the console, but the "meet the circle" never gets checked, though the next stage has appeared. I've tried to reset the quest and set the quest to further stages. I ended up without the quest at all, and it is not in the completed list. So...am I stuck in this? Can't I "remove" my werewolf status? (Loading a previous save file isn't an option) — Unsigned comment by 85.246.104.142 (talk) on January 15, 2012 05:50

i have found a solution to this problem ...pull out your weapon of choice and proceed to beat one of the circle members repeatedly, since they cannot die this wont be a problem. the dialogue somehow continues afterwords and the quest will be completed just be ready for the repeated onslaught of the member you choose to beat up. — Unsigned comment by 67.235.14.165 (talk) at 18:09 on 19 February 2012

() Another question: I have the PS3 version.

I was able to beat up someone to get the Jarl to walk away to continue the Main Quest line. But, Eorlund Gray-Mane who is suppose to take the Witch's head, the Fragments and to start the next quest doesn't come up to me. He's just working on smithing. When i talk to him he just has the dialog as before, but doesn't take the items away. I don't have a back save so how can I fix this? 66.104.157.98 04:02, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Katsumi

Companion Radiant Quest Bug following Completion[edit]

Before beginning this quest, I had the Companion Radiant Quest "Kill Silverhand Leuitenant at <location>" (in my case, Tevra's Watch). Following the completion of the Glory of the Dead quest, I was unable to interact with the quest giver regarding this quest (in my case, Aela). The quest tracking waypoint also disappeared from the map.

I reloaded a previous save, my earliest being after I had accepted the Glory of the Dead quest but before completion, and went and completed the Radiant Quest. The quest updated to "Report to <quest giver>" who was of course in the Tomb with the other Circle Members...but they were stuck in the "For Kodlak" voice mode. The quest tracker still followed them, and once again upon Glory of the Dead quest completion there was no quest turn dialogue option and the Radiant Quest tracking waypoint was disabled.

Any suggestions? 109.235.42.234 17:47, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Brandark

The Companions questline is plagued by a number of bugs, most of which will supposedly be fixed by the 1.4 patch. I would suggest waiting for this to come out before trying the Companions questline. Sorry i can't help more. RIM 19:27, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

When Aela the Huntress lights the funeral fire, the game freezes (PS3). I have to turn my system off and start over. I haven't figured out a way around it yet. Fire Lighting Crash[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

Hey guys, I've been having some of the same problems. Everything with the companions has worked fine up to the funeral. I go and once the companions finish their parts of the prayer thing Aela goes to light the fire. I hear one smack of the anvil and the game crashes...

Is there any way to fix this or get around it? Someone please help me out ASAP!

Thanks — Unsigned comment by 67.233.11.188 (talk) at 03:02 on 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Workaround  : delta
The game crash can be worked around in PC version.
When the Ceremony is done and Aela moves to light the fire. bring up te console before the puts the torch in and use a coc command - or just type in "coc whiterundragonsreach" (without the inverted commas), which transports you to inside Dragonsreach. Once you are inside, exit through the main door to Whiterun and head back to the Skyforge. Kodlak's pyre will remain unburnt, but the quest will automatically progress to the next stage, where Eorlund asks you to retrieve the last fragment of Wuuthrad.

Dropped Glenmoril Witch Heads (Help!)[edit]

After the Quest Blood's Honor, I got 4 Witch heads, but after I saw Kodlak dead, I thought that I would no longer need them, so i gave it to the dead Silver Hand dude. Now, I don't know what to do, I am at the part where Kodlak wants me to burn the witch head but I dont know what to do. Can I use console commands to add a witch head? I am on a PC. Glory of the dead quest not activating[edit]

To finish the purity of revenge quest the last instruction is return to jorvaskar. I fast travel to Whiterun with Vilkas and he says to me " the others have probably prepared kodlak's funeral by now. Come up to the skyforge to pay your respects". I then get a notification saying the quest is completed but nothing else happens. If i follow vilkas he just walks back to jorvaskar, and there is no one but eorland at the skyforge. All the companion leaders revert back to their normal dialogue and offer me the standard companion side quests, kodlak's body is nowhere to be found and everyone acts as though nothing happened. I still have the witch head and the fragments of wuuthrad in my inventory. Playing on ps3, updated with latest patch. It fixed itself for me. Everyone was standing around the funeral doing nothing. I tried all the other suggestions and then gave up. Lycantrophy not removed after burning witch head[edit]

Right after killing Kodlak's spirit, I decided to cure my lycantrophy, so I threw the witch's head to the fire and my spirit came out and so I killed, everything normal. I losed my ability to become a werewolf. Yet when I look at the stats, the are still counting the days as if I was a werewolf even when I can't make myself one. This is not a problem that needs solution, but I found it rather odd. Does someone has an explanation for why this is happening? — Unsigned comment by EDGARHOUSE (talkcontribs) at 05:38 on 26 July 2012

That's a well-known bug with the lycanthropy cure. If you still get the bonuses for resting then I wouldn't worry about it though. --Morrolan (talk) 20:30, 11 April 2013 (GMT)

Ghosts of the Companions error[edit]

The following line appears in the Ghosts of the Companions section: "Upon the left side of the staircase upon entering there is a small table with a Dragon Priest Dagger and a couple urns with gold." It seems the appearance of the dagger may be level dependent, or based on some other factor. I remember this being there on my other characters, and that I was higher level when I did this quest with them (>40). I'm taking my lvl 30 through now and it's an Ancient Nord Sword, not a dagger of any kind. Perhaps this should be changed to say "a leveled weapon" or something similar? Also, there are three urns and the article says "a couple" (two). Lastly, and just to be clear, the note implies all items are on the left table. The weapon is on the left table, but the urns are on the right table. This note needs some improvement. --72.88.199.175 14:45, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

To resolve this, get away and out of combat with the ghost of Kodlak. Then use commands TCAI and TAI. This will take you out of combat with him. Then use TCAI and TAI again or you won't be able to speak with AI. Should work after that. Worked for me.

Bug?[edit]

I have the Playstation 3 version I'm trying to complete the Companions quest go going to the Skyforge to watch Kodlak's funeral and everytime i do the game freezes right when Aela puts the torch to the forge. I think it is the Glory of the dead quest? But They start the funeral at the point she goes to lay the torch down or start the fire game will freeze. Now I uninstalled everything and kept my only save file. Restarted my game re installed my game and the 1.8 update patch. It still does this freezes, but if I leave before she does the fire as in fast travel game plays fine I can go back to white run wonder around as long I stay at the bottom part of it . If I go toward the stairs Heading into the area the game will freeze or If I get arrested it will freeze. Say i pay my bounty soon the screen loads I'm back in white run it freezes. Is there any way to fix this or any time it will be fixed. I played game before on my old ps3 before the hard drive went bad it played just fine. Bugs Cleanup[edit]

  • Sometimes Eorlund does not appear at the Forge, causing the quest line to freeze up.
    • On PC Use prid 0001A683 followed by moveto player. Eorlund should immediately start his funeral dialogue and afterwards all related NPCs return to normal operation.
    • This can also sometimes be resolved by leaving and re-entering the Underforge a few times.

Kodlak doesn't transform[edit]

Yet another in what seems to be a long line of one-off bugs with this quest. When I got to Kodlak's spirit, at first he wouldn't talk to me at all unless I walked far away from him and came back. Even once he did talk to me, he'd finish his speech and become my enemy, even before I put the witch head into the fire. Once I did that, the objective failed to update, and the wolf spirit didn't appear. Since Kodlak was invulnerable, and attacking me since I had somehow become his enemy, the quest was completely stuck. The one oddity that at first seemed unrelated was that Vilkas also occasionally went hostile on me for no apparent reason. My best guess is that either because I'd hit him too many times, or because I was transforming to and from a werewolf a few times, some of the companions were nominally in a hostile state, but not actually going hostile due to the quest. I don't know if that makes sense or not.

Anyway, my solution, which worked, was to exit the dungeon, wait until I transformed back to human, then wait another 24 hours for good measure. When I went back in, Vilkas was acting normal and Kodlak didn't become unexpectedly hostile. Once he'd finished speaking, I put the witch head in the fire, the wolf spirit appeared, I killed it, and everything seemed to be back on track. Robin Hood  (talk) 09:28, 5 January 2014 (GMT)

Circle Companions Died. =([edit]

After I defeated Kodlak's wolf spirit , and exited Ysgramor's Tomb , all of the Circle members who accompanied me, (Vilkas , Aela & Farkas), materialized dead at the entrance outside the tomb. I am not sure why.

I reloaded to when I first entered the Tomb, and instead of engaging with the Companion ghosts, I just snuck all the way to fight the wolf spirit. At this point, Aela and Farkas were not there, and Vilkas was not at the inside of the entrance before I exited. When I exited the tomb, they did not materialize dead this time.

When I returned to Jorrvaskr , none of the three had returned, yet. I waited until the next day, and decided to go find them. First I checked the Underforge , just in case.

Then I made the trek back to Ysgramor's tomb. When I entered the tomb once again, Farkas greeted me just inside, by the statue. I went further into the tomb, and Aela greeted me. After our discussions, the three of the promptly ran out of the tomb (Vilkas was wandering somewhere in the tomb prior to that point).

When I traveled back to Jorrvaskr, all three were alive and 'normal', and allowed me to 'ask for work'.

Player home mention[edit]

Once becoming Harbinger, Kodlak's bedroom and ready room become usable by the player. I think that should be mentioned here, as well as which containers there are safe, if any. Lofgren (talk) 05:04, 11 May 2014 (GMT)

Werewolf[edit]

  • If you turn into a werewolf whilst clearing the tomb, Farkas and Vilkas will start to attack you until you either die or revert back into a human. This is because Farkas and Vilkas mistakenly share the same class as a city guard, who would normally attack you on sight if you are a werewolf.

There's something odd going on here as members of The Circle (and your followers as they are during this quest) will not care about you turning into a werewolf. More information is needed here on the circumstances. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:51, 18 July 2014 (GMT)

Game crashes to desktop if I leave Glenmoril Coven.[edit]

I play through Steam on a PC. I can go in and kill all the witches/collect all the heads; just one witch/one head; or just walk in and then immediately walk out again having done nothing - and it crashes to the desktop every time. I have restarted and reloaded but to no avail. There is a bug listed on some page that the game crashed to desktop upon every entry into the coven, but for me it is the opposite. I will play side quests for now, but I have already finished many major quests of the game... Oh! And I used a console code to add the head as an item - but it doesn't register, not allowing me to go forward... Ta! Seek4gnosis (talk) 02:27, 12 March 2015 (GMT)

OK!!! Nevermind - after posting this I thought of something, so I post the remedy in case others have this problem. Serena has been with me for so long that I don't even think of her. I had to tell her to wait at the cave's entrance - then I went in, killed witches, and came back out again - so you cannot take any follower into Glenmoril Coven with you. Moved from article[edit]

Kodlak's funeral may not even begin; Vilkas will talk about heading up to the Skyforge to pay respects and then simply head to Jorrvaskr and return to his usual routine along with other NPCs. Reloading saves does not fix this and there are no known fixes.

This seems dubious to me, particularly the part about there being no known fixes and reloading saves not working. Can anyone confirm this or provide additional details? Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 17:41, 8 May 2015 (GMT)

Bug with Jarl?[edit]

I'm about to start the Companions questline and I was wondering if not meeting with the Jarl about Riverwood and Helgen (aka meeting him for the first time at the funeral) causes any bugs with this quest. I know the Jarl automatically engages in conversation with you once you reach a certain distance and don't plan on dealing with the whole "Riverwood calls for Jarl's aid" stuff until I want to (I don't want my character to be Dragonborn yet so I'm saving those quests for later). Can he engage in conversation with you about this during the funeral and can this cause any glitches? — Unsigned comment by 98.28.225.144 (talk) at 15:52 on 12 November 2016 (UTC)

I would just not go near him during the quest, but I don't think it should be an issue either way. If it is one, you can just back out of the conversation manually without saying anything to continue the quest. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 15:52, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Secondary Follower Possibility at the Kodlak's Chamber with Serana[edit]

Hello.

I just saw a dialogue option to take up one of three circle members. I choose to do so and now i now have two followers with me.

Please test it out and edit if it is persistent.

I have Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Hearthfire. Version is latest.

Bug?[edit]

The Companion Circle won't leave the tomb after one in-game month. I have tried uninstalling all mods and re-installing them. The weird part is, they seem to go outside the tomb a few times, but they return to the tomb no matter what. — Unsigned comment by 179.7.113.196 (talk) at 01:49 on 28 February 2017

Vilkas, Farkas, and aela BUGGED! PLEASE HELP.[edit]

On xbox 360 my glory of the dead quest has bugged out and wont let me complete it. unlike wthe other bugs it has allowed Aela to light the torch but when she did everyone else walked away but her farkas and vilkas are all still standing around the fire. I'm unable to ttalk to any of them as it says "this person is busy". I have NO mods, I have tried waiting, and I have tried punching her until she moves but none of it has worked. Please someone help me. I'm a level 74 and I cant complete this quest. — Unsigned comment by 73.121.204.62 (talk) at 07:05 on 13 September 2017

Glory Of The Dead Glitch?[edit]

After Aela burned Kodlak, she went back to her spot and stayed there. Nobody talked after that. I went and cleared the dungeon, nothing.

I don't know what to do now. I left it alone and did other things but came back when the Jarl was needed, and I cannot talk to him to continue the main quest since it says he's busy. I also tried shooting him with my bow until he fell, still nothing.

If anyone can help, please do. I really don't want to start a new game if it's unfixable, and I've done so much after the last save that I don't want to lose.

Thanks and best regards to anyone who reads this. — Unsigned comment by 67.239.111.180 (talk) at 02:23 on 15 October 2017

CTD after arriving at Dawnstar[edit]

so I followed the companions to Dawnstar and got to the part where the AI cannot find the way anymore, Just as Farkas caught up to the group as he was for some reason far behind the rest, and I decided to leave them there and meet them at the tomb by going on my own, the game decided to CTD. — Unsigned comment by 89.8.207.16 (talk) at 12:56 on 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Do you have any mods running? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 12:56, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
