How to deal with Briarhearts (question)[edit]

Any tips on dealing with briarhearts? Whenever I face forsworn I have no problem killing them all until this guy comes in and he can easily kill me, I have to use 10 health potions to take him. Thanks --Lord.Baal 07:53, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Maybe this helps, but I believe pickpocketing their hearts will instantly kill them. — Unsigned comment by 184.203.75.195 (talk) at 23:22 on 23 December 2011
Lord Baal best suggestion I can give you is rush them. Hit them as fast and hard as you can. Fighting them at range isn't a good move unless you have high magic resist/absorb. Basically you want to keep them staggered and/or just keep the hits coming. Shields come in handy with them since you can block some of their blows and bashing them gives you openings to get them. Just don't let them back up to heal since they don't seem to switch to healing if you're still right on top of them. Lord Eydvar 19:12, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
They are substantially more difficult than the other Forsworn. It's difficult to give advice, though, as they are fairly generic enemies. What are your primary combat skills and level? I would guess that your problem comes from being underleveled; you should stay out of the Reach (westernmost Skyrim) until at least level 15 or so. --Theothersteve7 19:21, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
I think the briarhearts' stats can vary from easy to kill to hard because, I had killed 5 briarhearts in different locations and 2 of them were the hardest to deal with (had an incredibly high health bar), while 3 of them just had a incredibly high damage ratio, but lower defense and health. And to the first question, I'd say the best to deal with them is keep your distance (of course). Also, if you're a thief, pickpocket their briar hearts, if you are a mage, conjure some atronachs/corpses to distract them. — Unsigned comment by 130.157.32.243 (talk) at 04:23 on 16 March 2012

Books?[edit]

Can anybody advise what books actually cover the Forsworn? I haven't run across any so far. Thanks. Piethief100 15:10, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

The "Madmen" of the Reach is one that I've run across. --Cdevine 13:02, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Forsworn King[edit]

Surprised there's no information about King Maldonach, the 'king in rags' who is the leader of the Forsword currently imprisoned in Cidhna Mine. See the Side Quest 'No One Escapes Cidhna Mine' --81.102.131.70 14:21, 22 November 2011 (UTC) Anon

There's an article at Madanach. If you think information needs to be added to this article, feel free to do so. --NepheleTalk 16:29, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Actually, he's not the leader of the forsworn — Unsigned comment by 174.95.236.2 (talk) at 14:30 on 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Molag Bal's quest "involves" the Forsworn[edit]

If the escape quest qualifies I would say the Molag quest does too. — Unsigned comment by 173.169.155.159 (talk) at 05:30 on 8 December 2011

Basic Forsworn[edit]

The main page lists "Forsworn" as a subtype of the Forsworn. Pillagers and the other subtypes have their own pages. What should a page for the Forsworn be called, as the page Forsworn is used as a main page for the different subtypes? Tageborg 07:10, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Page Rewrite[edit]

Not sure if there's anything I missed. I've been combing the wiki and The Reach in game recently. The only major missing component I couldn't find information on are the actual Generic Forsworn units themselves. I didn't detail basic Forsworn Gear either as it was tied into them. Structured the page to be a general hub for the Faction. In the future will either need to add unit info for each unit on this page or into their individual pages.

I've yet to encounter a Forsworn Warlord or Shaman and have found countless variations (ie. Forsworn Ravagers that Missle, DW, or Cast) of the rest. --Bwross 07:22, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Forsworn Shaman[edit]

I encountered a Forsworn Shaman on the PS3 version at the camp outside Serpent's Bluff Redoubt in the Trouble in Skyrim quest for the Companions. Just thought I'd report that since there's a note next to Forsworn Shaman saying it might not exist in-game. 24.77.171.129 01:04, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I think that's been removed. Shamans do exist they're just not as common from what I've seen. Lord Eydvar 19:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Aren't they just more common after you get beyond the level 40 range? Because I'm close to level 48 and I've encountered these shamans pretty frequently (well, at least the same encounter over and over at karthspire) — Unsigned comment by 130.157.32.243 (talk) at 04:20 on 16 March 2012
Shamans do indeed exist im lvl 81 and i encounter at least 5 of them in every forsworn camp — Unsigned comment by 77.166.160.62 (talk) at 16:48 on 11 May 2012

() I can also not encountered a Forsworn Warlord, im level 81, all i Encounter are Ravagers and Briarhearts — Unsigned comment by 76.182.86.104 (talk) at 20:14 on 13 June 2012

The article states: "Forsworn Warlords are defined in the game data as a variant that is even more powerful than the Forsworn Ravager. However, warlords do not appear in any of the leveled lists that generate generic Forsworn enemies and therefore do not appear in the game." So it makes sense that you don't encounter the Warlord variants, and given your level, it does make sense to encounter Ravagers and Briarhearts, so nothing seems out of the ordinary for your situation. Reachmen and Race[edit]

1st PGE: "The Reachmen are a mongrel breed, even for Bretons. Descended originally from one of the earliest Atmoran tribes to settle Tamriel, their lineage now partakes of nearly every race imaginable. The uprising that finally "freed" the Western Reach ended in the extermination of the Aldmeri overlords, but Elven blood still flows strong in the Reachmen, and they share the secretive, haughty demeanor of that race. In later years, they traded and exchanged customs with the Orcish villages that shared their mountains, and eventually learned much of the beastfolk's magic. Reach-magic is still widely studied, although it is banned by the Mages Guild (who fear it as dangerous and wild hedge-wizardry), and the Reachmen are often referred to as the "Witchmen of High Rock."132.162.73.252 19:25, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

My edit is in the history, but not in the article. Does UESP require accounts now?132.162.73.252 19:32, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
You do not need to have an account to edit the wiki, and the policy is that you should be treated just like anyone who does have an account. If you think that the page would be better and/or more accurate, you can edit it again. To avoid going back and forth, you may wish to see if you can identify an editor who removed or changed your work, and try to arrive at an agreement together, or state more specifically what you propose for the page here on its talk page, and ask others for feedback. (E.g., "I propose replacing the entire Xth paragraph with the above/following". Or, "I propose re-inserting the above/following section after the first section." In reality, I think some people may be a bit more likely to discuss something or consult you on something if you have an account. There is no Mages Guild in Skyrim. People may feel that some of your information belongs on a lore page. There are other things you can do to call more people's attention to proposed changes on a page, and probably get a wider range of input. If you are interested in that, leave another note here, and I or someone else can give you further suggestions. I hope that's helpful. Someone with more experience or knowledge than me might correct me or add some advice. I'm a fairly new editor.--JRTalk E-mail 00:07, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Something has definitely changed. I am the poster who made the earlier anonymous entry and I could not see it on the page until I logged in. Also, the top heading in the article doesn't appear on the edit page. I assume it is being pulled from somewhere else. How can I edit it?Temple-Zero 21:52, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
When you open the edit page, look at the top right of the page--does it say you're logged in? If not, refresh it and that should fix the page. Refreshing fixes these things most of the time. They're not unknown problems, though, and have been mentioned a few times. Users who aren't signed in experience it most of the time, but other times logged-in users get the same issue and can appear to be logged out. --Velyanthe 22:04, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
As to your second question, Yes: the top part is pulled in ("transcluded") from the Forsworn lore page. You can see this by the code {{Lore:Forsworn}} near the top of the page in editing mode. It looks like you may have since updated it to include your point about the mixed ancestry of the Reachmen. Are you satisfied with it now, or do you want to do more editing? If so, you can edit the source lore page, this page alone, or both. I don't think it's difficult to do, but you might want to consult Minor Edits on his talk page for technical advice. And since he introduced the transclusion, discussing proposed changes in content with him might be a good idea as well, for a number of reasons. I think he has a good perspective on what "the community" generally considers good in terms of how much information is best placed where (not to suggest that you must automatically defer to him or anyone else). He's pretty active, so I think he will respond to you pretty quickly. --JRTalk E-mail 04:38, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
No objections. I didn't properly consult PGE1 when I made the lore page. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 04:53, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Object of worship controversy.[edit]

As deadra, adera, cult leaders, necromancers of high power etc are considered to be valid objects of worship by most of Nirn, what is it that the Forsworn worship?

If they were a splinter sect of the Dragon Cut it would explain why the religion is too strange, forgotten and taboo to discuss. — Unsigned comment by Honney Boy (talkcontribs) at 09:07 on 6 June 2012

Forsworn are almost exclusivly Bretons. See the lore article for religion info on them. The Silencer has spokenTalk 12:40, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
In the Repairing the White Phial job it's mentioned that Forsworn magic dates back to the first era, the time of dragon worship, and represents otherwise lost magics.
Red Eagle, fist and most celebrated brair heart raises as a draugr or even a Dragon Priest.
What exactly prevents Brentons from worshiping dragons?
All we seem to know is that the magic they use has been forbidden since first era, and that hagravens have something to do with it all. — Unsigned comment by Honney Boy (talkcontribs) at 23:01 on 6 June 2012
I wish people would stop using "Nirn" when they really mean "Tamriel". Yes there are other continents, but Tamriel is the only important part, metaphysically. --86.129.33.225 15:43, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
We know very little about the hedge magic used by the Forsworn. It's similar to witchcraft, as can be seen by the connections to hagravens. —Legoless 15:59, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Hagravens and forsworn[edit]

anybody know the odds of finding hagravens with forsworn or what level you need to be to encounter them more often? (im using the 36) — Unsigned comment by Alikepiepiepiepie (talkcontribs) at 12:38 on 26 August 2012

It looks like almost all hagravens are placed, and not randomly appearing. There is a random world encounter of spriggans battling with hagravens, and after level 20 there is a chance to get a hagraven for the quest Animal Extermination. --Alfwyn (talk) 20:35, 1 December 2012 (GMT)

Empire's Role in Nord Militia taking Markarth[edit]

What's the basis for the June 3, 2012 edit asserting that the Empire also promised Ulfric the open worship of Talos? Igmund never mentions the Empire. He does refer to "we" but this could and probably does mean a collective of Nords. The Empire was not only indifferent to that cause, The Bear of Markarth states that the Forsworn were negotiating with the Empire for recognition as an independent kingdom. It doesn't make much sense to believe that the Empire would agree to openly violate the White-Gold Concordat to allow Skyrim to reclaim the territory. The timeline established by the book indicates that Ulfric made the demand for free worship of Talos upon the Empire after he had control of Markarth as a condition for allowing the Imperial Legion to reestablish law and order in the city, a demand which it only acceded to because of the chaos and killing going on within the city (presumably by his own men). That implies that there was no such covenant between the Empire and Ulfric prior to his seizing the city. I'm making a small edit to remove the reference to the Empire's involvement in negotiating terms prior to the actual event. --DagmarH (talk) 17:43, 30 January 2013 (GMT)

Undead vs. Alive[edit]

Briarhearts are not undead by default; they lack the undead keyword.

However, there's a script here, specifically the line saying dunReanimateSelf.cast(newHost,newHost). Reanimating an NPC looks like it should make it undead, so that may cause some confusion. The script says that if a briarheart is added to a dead Forsworn Briarheart, then it will become reanimated, I think. I have not encountered them in my own games, so I'm not familiar with it, but it looks like the player adding a briarheart to the NPC should reanimate it. Can someone test this in-game or help read the script? Vely►t►e 17:54, 10 March 2013 (GMT)

I tried with both a Briarheart that I killed myself and one from which I stole the heart, to no avail. Reanimating it via spell doesn't revert his "empty" skin either. I thought it might have something to do with the resurrection scene at Lost Valley Redoubt but the dead Briarheart there already has a heart. Elakyn (talk) 19:13, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
I did some testing and they seem to not be affected by turn undead and other spells like that; changed accordinglyTyrvarion (talk) 21:16, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Reachmen Outside of the Reach? Bug?[edit]

I was travelling the mountain path from Fort Amol in Eastmarch to Ivarstead and I was attacked by a band of Forsworn. Is there a bug that might spawn Forsworn so far from the Reach or is there a lore reason they are there? I've never seen them anywhere but the Reach before and I've travelled this path many times without unusual encounters besides wolves and bandits. — Unsigned comment by 98.160.100.108 (talk) at 20:33 on 24 March 2013 (GMT)

Sounds odd. Maybe just a common bug. I've got a similar case, the two skeletons outside the Wolfskull Cave went missing. At last, I found them outside the East Empire Company Warehouse and they can even respawn every 10 days there. Then I have to use console to put them back. Putting on weight?[edit]

This has probably been mentioned before, but has anyone noticed that the Forsworn Briarhearts seem to get "bigger" when you remove the briar heart after death? I haven't attempted pickpocketing the heart yet to see if this happens, but am going to check just now. It's like their body posthumously puts on weight when their heart is removed. I'm guessing it's something to do with the body with the heart being replaced with one without? It's somewhat bizarre and amusing, though I do find the strangest things amusing at times... AyaHawkeye (talk) 00:45, 22 October 2013 (GMT)

I have seen this. It seems to be that sometimes the Briarheart is loaded up with a body shape from a skinny, not very muscular male, but when the heart is removed, it loads up a different body shape to reflect the removal, but also loads up a body shape that is much more muscular. I have also seen some briarhearts that start out with the more muscular form, so the change is only the heart being removed. --Dragos Drakkar (talk) 00:54, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

error in forsworn briarheart table[edit]

okay, I dont know exactly what the issue is here, but there's some sort of error in the forsworn briarheart table - i'm level 21, using no mods, and i'm getting one-hit killed by a briarheart using ice storm - which, according to this, it shouldnt be able to use. am i misreading this table somehow? 99.113.120.54
