Quest Start[edit]

Does anyone know who starts the quest? I talked to all the npc's and they only talk about him. — Unsigned comment by 174.252.181.57 (talk) at 01:57 on 15 December 2011

No clue. I had the same issue. Found him in Darkwater Pass and it jumped immediately to Rescue objective.--Bwross 05:59, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
I have the same problem starting this one and Anneke's quest in Darkwater Crossing. I have no conflicting objectives. Residents speak of him, but do not offer the quest objectives. The bugs section say a patch fixed this, but as I write this with the most updated version I cannot receive any objectives to find him.--72.91.149.47 22:02, 18 May 2013 (GMT)Archmage Darium
The fix is not found in any of the official patches. The unofficial patch referred to there is a kind of mod you can download. Be careful with using it though. Note if a later official patch does address the same problem, as there can be wise to temporarily disable the unofficial patches until they are properly updated too. —MortenOSlash (talk) 14:33, 19 May 2013 (GMT)

HELP ME[edit]

Can somebody help me?Derkheetus just stays at one place and he walks slowly and when I move far away from him,He moves to a place near where he is found.I want him to be my follower badly.Someone please help me. — Unsigned comment by Natsu (talkcontribs) at 08:32 on 14 June 2012

Derkeethus will not follow[edit]

I've observed that Derkeethus will not follow you if you currently have a follower. (mercenary, etc) I would like to suggest it be noted in the article that the argonian will not leave from his spot until you retire your follower and reload the area. 96.238.52.167 05:42, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

Oh, he'll follow you. Maybe. If he feels like it. Honestly, for someone being rescued from certain death, he has a remarkably casual attitude about escaping. And he can't follow worth a damn. Robinwitch1 (talk) 04:27, 15 December 2013 (GMT)
I've got him ten steps from the door and he will not escape.
Very buggy, at any rate. I hadn't been to Darkwater Crossing at all (not on my map yet), I've entered the cave from above using the unmarked entrance, talked to D., which started the quest to get him out. I didn't open the door yet (too few picks), cleared the cave, returned to his prison and he was gone. I picked open the door, looted the chest, and left the cave out the lower door. Went back in immediately, found him back in the prison cell, with the door now unlocked. Had the (apparently) usual patient work to get him to follow, couldn't pull him up to the upper entrance, so I pulled him to the lower entrance, where he is now standing a few steps from the door, with no apparent intention to leave the. I can exit the cave and go back in, to no avail. (This is on an unmodified PC Skyrim). --◄mendel► (talk) 06:36, 19 February 2014 (GMT)
I went into this cave again today. I couldn't get Derkeethus to escape with me, but I d found another Falmer spawned. So maybe my stealth is too high, and there are other Falmer left alive in the cave that prevent the quest from completing properly?
Also, the page writes, "the easiest way to get Derkeethus out is to head straight back the way you came". I submit it is the only way, as I found he will not cross the water to get to the upper exit. Unfortunately this is the exit with my quest marker on it, so maybe that's another reason why the quest can't complete. --◄mendel► (talk) 09:45, 28 February 2014 (GMT)
