What is the difference between 1-word and 3-word shout?[edit]

Each description just says "clear weather." Does that mean there is no difference between using 1 word or 3? Is there a hidden difference (relating to the NPC knockback or dragon-pause people mentioned)? I was just looking for any use to this shout, since it doesn't seem to affect the weather shown on the Skyrim map (the ONLY thing I was expecting it to be good for). --Amsuko 21:09, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

I think it clears the weather for longer in some cases and it seems to knock people back further. It is more of an occasionally useful shout rather than a shout that is damaging. RIM 21:30, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Leveling Skills With "Clear the Skies" Shout[edit]

I moved the following here from main article:

  • Clear the Skies can be used to level up your skills by:
    • Let an enemy beat on you while you are healing yourself with Restoration spells or potions (Restoration spells would probaly be preferable as you can level your Restoration skill along with your armor skill).
    • If you are using magicka to heal yourself, wait until your magicka is down to a small degree and then use Clear the Skies to stagger you enemy and back up so you can keep using Clear the Skies without being attacked and wait for your magicka to regenerate.
    • If you are using magicka to heal yourself, you may want to have some gear that will help regenerate magicka faster.
    • Use Oakflesh or another Alteration spell so you can level that up at the same time.
    • Can also use this trick to level your block skill.
    • The Warrior Stone, Mage Stone, or The Lover Stone would be very beneficial to this process.
    • The Amulet of Talos would help as well to keep your enemy away from you longer as enemies gain a few steps towards you whenever they recover from being staggered and between the your next use of Clear the Skies.

Nearly all of this information is just generic training information, and has nothing to do with using the Clear Skies shout. It's not even clear what the relevance of the Clear Skies shout is -- is it just that the shout staggers your enemies and gives you a chance to recover? Is that really an important training tip? There are many other ways to interrupt combat and/or escape from combat, so what is special about Clear Skies? --NepheleTalk 00:44, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Being a shout, it does not burn magicka or use up a paralyze potion or burn a charge from a weapon or waste an arrow for the stagger or interruption. Likewise, it does not damage the low level attacker that you are kiting to go to school on and it has a relatively short cool down. Other than those economies, there is nothing special about Clear Skies as a means of interruption. Kalevala 23:04, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Does not work in Winterhold?[edit]

I have used this shout numerous places to remove severe snowstorms that make it hard to see. However upon arriving in Winterhold, I have found that the shout does not clear the snow or clouds, or seem to do anything but anger the guards due to repetition. Can anyone confirm that this also happens in their game? Could it be a bug or is it just the devs' desire that we be unable to remove snowstorms in Winterhold? Christovski (talk) 02:26, 14 January 2013 (GMT)

I have found that Clear Sky only works in Winterhold until you start Hitting The Books, then it quits until a later quest completes. Once I get it working again I will update here. I know that by the time you complete the quest line it has started working again but not sure exactly which quest it is that triggers it. Yuugian (talk) 12:56, 5 February 2013 (GMT)

Knockback[edit]

Just a nitpick. The shout can knock back surrounding enemies indoors and outdoors. — Unsigned comment by 69.127.144.87 (talk) at 05:27 on 12 August 2013

Non obvious uses[edit]

Seeing as these have been removed from the actual page.

You can use Clear Skies to:

  • You can clear away storm clouds hiding the sun to shoot it with Auriel's Bow.
  • Or just to clear a normal snow storm.

Non obvious uses is a very subjective term, and different people will think different uses are obvious. However like so many "corrections" to my updates by this person, was it really necessary or correct to remove them?

the first of these uses was added on 20 Nov 2012 by someone else, and five updates have happened since then, with no-one deeming this an obvious use. So why is this now an obvious use?

For the use I added, I would think that most people, like myself, would think that this was for use of negating magically created weather. I've played Skyrim since it came out and have never once thought to use it for natural weather until last night. So surely that in itself shows it's not an obvious use? Biffa (talk) 08:57, 28 April 2014 (GMT)

The possible uses section was kept for non-obvious uses, which is of course a subjective term. This shouts description and name imply that stormy weather is cleared, and indeed it is in the second paragraph. I don't know why anyone would think a shout named 'Clear Skies' would not work on natural weather, rather only on magically created weather which shouldn't be immediately counterable. As I was involved in the discussion about keeping and cleaning these sections, which had got out of control, I'd like to think that my opinion wouldn't be questioned underhandedly. You had no need to mention me or my edits at all, all you needed to do was ask if these were valid entries on the talk page, which in my opinion they are not. Please keep your opinions neutral and leave me out of them, as your repeated negative comments about me could be construed as a personal attack. Discussions about articles should never get personal without good reason. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:52, 28 April 2014 (GMT)
Well for me I feel justified in including you as I feel you make things personal, the repeated negative interactions we have had because of your attitude that your opinions shouldn't be questioned and your thinking that your opinions count for more than mine or others. There was no intent to be underhanded in my comments regarding your opinion, I was trying for brutal honesty, not as a personal attack, but because it feels like you target my updates and create negative interactions whenever you can and I'm bored with it. I do hope that is clear enough for you. This is based on your repeatedly making derogatory comments aimed at me and my updates. It's also based on the way our first two big interactions went, where other wiki'ers on this site tried pointing out to you that you were being high handed and "being a bit High Horsey" and despite the fact I offered an olive branch towards peace, unfortunately you didn't even have the good manners to apologise for your actions and comments.
With regards your removal, I wrote it out in the manner I did hoping to get any of the other wiki'er, all of which I respect to weigh in as I disagree with your removal as I feel that it isn't obvious to use this shout to be able to use Auriel's Bow to shoot the sun. Something that is borne out by that fact that this use stood without issue for nearly a year and a half, despite five updates to the page, including one that directly altered the language used for this use.
Nor do I agree with your removal of the addition I made, yes if you think about it, of course it would clear natural weather, but that doesn't automatically mean that it is obvious to use it in this manner. The fact I've been playing the game since launch day and have never thought to use it to clear natural bad weather despite 4000+ hours invested, which to me proves it's not that obvious. Possible because the first two ways to use the shout deal with magically created weather, first to get to The throat of the world and second to calm the sky after Alduin casts Storm Call. I may be unique and have plenty of certificates in insanity, but would still consider myself an "average jo", so if I've never thought to use it for this, then it stands to reason that others would be in the same situation, justifying the addition on the page. This wiki is supposed to be there to help everyone including beginners or people new to the series who may need more help and information, not just for you to rule unchallenged. So far we have two opinions by two people that have a less than cooperative relationship, hence me putting it on the talk page. I thought that this is the correct way to handle it, rather than just creating an undoing war? Biffa (talk) 03:11, 29 April 2014 (GMT)

Required during Dragonslayer?[edit]

Per the recent reverts about the addition of Dragonslayer to Related Quests - do we know what happens if you don't clear the fog when the Heroes prompt you to do so? Personally, I have never properly tested this, but iirc the scene stalls as if everyone is waiting for you.

Does Alduin only appear if you also shout, or will he appear regardless? --Jimeee (talk) 12:09, 12 May 2014 (GMT)

I was thinking of its use in stopping Alduin's meteor strike, I forgot about that part. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:19, 12 May 2014 (GMT)

Aurora[edit]

This shout causes the aurora (northern (nord?) lights) to appear, sometimes with a slight delay. Being an artist and a very visual gamer, this is the reason I have it favorited, as the lights are amazing. I am certain there are people who would be very glad to know this, even if the number of those people is not very high. — Unsigned comment by 67.86.185.213 (talk) at 21:06 on 14 March 2015‎
