Effect of Resistance on Damage Output[edit]

If magic resistance of the caster affects the damage output, does negative resistances (for example the one caused by the apprentice stone) raise the damage output? — Unsigned comment by 178.1.62.50 (talk) at 08:35 on 6 July 2013‎

I'd like to add a similar question if anybody knows. If the formula uses your magic and frost resistance, does that mean it doesn't use the enemies'? --184.176.107.238 08:53, 30 July 2014 (GMT)
The Apprentice Stone, weakness to frost and weakness to magic increase the damage of blizzard.
The magic and frost resistance of enemies are used for damage calculation, enemies that are immune, like ghosts, are still immune. 217.120.80.77 09:33, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Friendly ice?[edit]

Main page says that Blizzard hurts allies and even the caster, but I tried it out, and it did neither. I used it in the battle for Windhelm to great effect. — Unsigned comment by 208.47.18.162 (talk) at 15:04 on 17 March 2014‎

I don't recall for sure if it damages friendlies, but I'm positive it damages me when I cast it. Maybe your magical or cold resistance was high enough to avoid damage from it, because it doesn't inflict much damage on the caster. If you were taking Windhelm for the Stormcloaks, maybe your fellow soldiers, who appear to all be Nords, didn't get damaged due to their inherent cold resistance, unlike the mainly Imperial (race) Imperial soldiers. --Xyzzy Talk 04:49, 18 March 2014 (GMT)
You take Windhelm for the Empire, the Stormcloaks have it already. And although I play a Nord, I have no further enhancements to magic or frost resistance. — Unsigned comment by 208.47.18.162 (talk) at 22:13 on 18 March 2014‎
Oops. I always do that, confuse Windhelm and Whiterun in conversation. When you cast it, do you take absolutely no damage, or just a little? IIRC, I take a small amount of damage, which could be further reduced by a Nord's 50% cold resistance. Are you using any mods that may affect spell damage? --Xyzzy Talk 01:28, 19 March 2014 (GMT)
No damage at all (also, I have Brylyna Maryon following me). No mods except the Dragonborn expansion. — Unsigned comment by ‎ 208.47.18.162 (talk) at 16:30 on 4 April 2014
Self-damage appears to be random. Going from no damage, to one hit kill and does not appear to be related to the current damage of the spell.
Blizzard only damages hostile targets. Unless the Deep Freeze perk has been unlocked and the target has low health, in that case the paralyze effect turns the target hostile. Pacifying an enemy in a Blizzard will cause it to stop taking damage.217.120.80.77 09:33, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Doesn't count as murder when using it on an npc[edit]

It's not mentioned on the page but you can use it on a npc nearby and it will kill the target but you wont get a bounty.

I've done this inside Winking Skeever on Sorex's Father killing him and doing damage to his son who was right by him and i did not get no bounty. Which is pretty interesting (PrinceRetro (talk) 18:45, 28 September 2018 (UTC))

I'll add a note with verification needed to the article, as I don't see this noted anywhere else. --Xyzzy Talk 16:14, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
Blizzard only harms hostile targets. Unless the Deep Freeze perk has been unlocked and the target has low health, in that case the paralyze effect turns the target hostile. This counts as an assault and will give a bounty. The subsequent death will as well. 217.120.80.77 09:33, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
