Surviving the Fall[edit]

i ended up falling off the bridge fighting the hagravens, and walked towards the water to survive the fall. +1 speech was a bonus. — Unsigned comment by 76.16.56.252 (talk) at 03:33 on 15 December 2011

Comments[edit]

Sometimes followers will make a comment about beautiful vista while standing on a plank. — Unsigned comment by 178.36.28.148 (talk) at 15:35 on 17 December 2011

On X-box when I went to Bard's Leap with Lidia as a follower she not only made that comment on the way to the edge but also jumped off after running for it. Has that been confirmed with anyone else? Sorry I don't have an account.--209.62.171.41 03:10, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Reference[edit]

I know this may be a bit of a stretch, but does anybody else think this might be a reference to the leap of faith from Assassin's Creed? The planks at the end of the jump resemble those in Assassin's Creed, at the very least. — Unsigned comment by 205.188.116.69 (talk) at 13:35 on 2 January 2012

I don't think so. There has been at least one joke/feautre/easter egg about falling from great heights in alle TES games since Morrowind (Tarhiel in Morrowind, Dive Rock in Oblivion, Suicide Hill and Execution Summit in Shivering Ilses). --Killfetzer 13:43, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
It's now been added to the Easter Eggs page, here. -Alphabetface 02:51, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Skill Point/s?[edit]

I am trying to figure out whether taking this leap results in a +1 or +2 bonus to your Speech skill level. There are various places on the site where this leap is mentioned with conflicting information. If someone could help me figure this out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Alphabetface 02:51, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

It's +2 according to the Creation Kit. Also, amusingly, it looks like this constitutes a quest that we don't yet have on the wiki, but rather than confuse the issue, I'll let Nephele sort it out, since she's really taken the lead on this sort of thing. Robin Hoodtalk 05:20, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping that whole CK thing (which is an evil, taunting mystery to me, since I'm on Xbox) would help. Now I can fix my table on my page. :) Alphabetface 05:44, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Fast Travel Problems[edit]

If you fast travel to here on a horse, you and the horse will be deposited on the plank and the horse, at the very least, will probably fall to its death. --174.6.51.17 11:26, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Glitch?[edit]

When I did it there was no sound when the song was played, is that normal? SneakyPenguin77 (also my Gamertag) 19:12, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

No, that's definitely a glitch. Don't know what caused it, though - sounds like a one-off glitch. • JATalk 04:35, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

The Horse Pushed Me!: Fast Travel Problem[edit]

I tried to fast-travel to Bard's Leap Summit, because I believe I had missed the Become Ethereal Word near there. However, I did not know about the 'horse falling to its death' thing, and fast-traveled away. However, instead of my horse falling to its death, I DID! It appeared that I 'arrived' on, well, nothing. I spawned after the fast travel over the fall, with nothing underneath me. Any thoughts? O.o Piffinatour (talk) 18:09, 17 February 2013 (GMT)

Riding vs. owning horses[edit]

You can own more than one horse.

You can only ride one horse.

You do not have to be on the horse's back to be riding that horse. Which seems weird.

The horse you are riding is the last horse you rode. It will fast travel with you. None of the others will.

If you wish to not have a horse fast travel with you, the easiest way I've found (and it's not that easy) is to get Summon Arvak from Dawnguard. Ride him, then let him disappear. Now you are not riding a horse and none of the horses you own will fast travel with you. --Morrolan (talk) 23:08, 4 March 2013 (GMT)

Interesting point. I'm not the one who reverted, but I initially agreed with it. I wasn't aware that you could get rid of a ridden horse, but your method makes sense. I'd like to find better wording, as the "riding" wording implies that you're actively riding a horse when you may not be, but I can't think of anything simple off-hand. Robin Hood  (talk) 23:54, 4 March 2013 (GMT)
How about your current horse? Quillan (talk) 01:31, 5 March 2013 (GMT)
That works better. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:58, 5 March 2013 (GMT)
Yep, and it also applies when you're riding a horse you don't own (either an unowned or stolen horse). --Morrolan (talk) 03:04, 5 March 2013 (GMT)

Why is this here? — Unsigned comment by 184.101.176.5 (talk) at 03:52 on 14 March 2014

Because of the note on the page about your horse spawning off to the side and falling. If you look at the history, you'll see that at the time this discussion originally took place, there was some debate as to the exact wording of that note. Robin Hood  (talk) 13:50, 14 March 2014 (GMT)

Surviving the jump[edit]

I already removed the part about surviving the jump but it has been brought back. It's misleading and wrong, you do not need any sort of magic whatsoever to survive the leap, I have never ever used anything but simple jumping function and I have never ever died. People will think they can't do it because they don't have one of those two shouts (which will suck for people who tend not to play as the dragonborn, like me).

Thank you. — Unsigned comment by 93.136.34.69 (talk) at 15:35 on 5 May 2013‎

Please have a closer look at the paragraph: "... or jumping at the last moment while running normally ..." ;) --Holomay (talk) 16:44, 5 May 2013 (GMT)

Bilegulch Mine[edit]

Just for absolute confirmation in regards to the recent series of reversions, I just tested it in-game and there is absolutely no way to get to Bard's Leap Summit from anywhere without triggering the discovery of Lost Valley Redoubt. I tried regular paths from Bilegulch Mine with only easy jumping, insanely improbable mountain climbing, and even approaching from Cradle Stone Tower, and no matter what, I always triggered discovery of Lost Valley Redoubt. There is therefore no reason at all to list anything other than LVR as the point of access. Robin Hood  (talk) 22:15, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
