Kahvozein's Fang[edit]

Add another confirmation for looting the corpse with it equipped; I never got it to work by attacking either living or dead dragons, but on the other hand it didn't work previously when I looted dragon corpses... 124.170.15.129 19:32, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

In my experience you need to simply equip the Fang into the right hand and loot/activate a corpse. A message pops up at the top of the screen that tells you that you received some Heartscales. I did this with three dragons (note that I have yet to activate the quest related to this); I didn't even harm/kill them with the Fang, just equipped and looted. Interestingly, I looted one empty, then equipped the fang and looted it again and the heartscale message still popped up and a set was added to my inventory. Cronos 10:21, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

I confirm this. Equip it then search the dragon's remains, that's all.
Definitely confirmed - a previously looted and (Empty) dragon - equip fang press 'E' - heartscale added 86.171.10.111 15:00, 30 January 2012 (UTC) StuWade
Mirmulnir's corpse does not appear to shed any heartscales. I began the Ritual Quest and obtained the Fang before delivering the Dragonstone to Farengar. Need more confirmation.--72.18.101.17 01:26, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Other practical uses[edit]

Aside from this quest, are there any other practical uses for dragon heartscales? My brother is collecting them en masse even though I know that it has no other practical uses; e.g. it can't be used for forging/improving armor.— Unsigned comment by 89.211.254.75 (talk)

For those that enjoy adding personal elements to the game, it could be a collector's item of some sort. I've collected every Nine amulet, and I keep all of the 'unique' items, even if they're useless to me (like the journals I find in previously adventured / inhabited ruins, or a couple of the Dragonpriest Masks). It's fun to do :) but other than that, I do not know of any 'practical' application of this item. --Zmedaris 23:01, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't know of any practical use for them other than selling them since its like getting another set of dragon scales. — Unsigned comment by 166.82.245.89 (talk)

No dragon, no scale[edit]

What would happen if dragon rising had not been completed(i.e no dragon).(Vvardfell 14:53, 17 March 2012 (UTC))

I would guess this quest is unfinishable till you have at least finished Dragon Rising. Wolok gro-Barok 15:30, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Would not the undead dragon found during the College questline not also count? Or do you not fight one unless you finished Dragon Rising? --DaedalusMachina 07:12, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Ancient Dragons[edit]

(PS3) I'm changing the note on the main page about unable to get Heartscales from Ancient Dragons to add "Unconfirmed". Currently level 76 and have looted 60 Ancient Dragons since getting the knife. I have 60 of Heartscales and have not yet done the Ritual Quest. Every dragon of all types give these. I read that note and was surprised when I got the first one so I kept careful watch and count. Philbert 03:03, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

im level 58 and i just got a heartscale from an ancient dragon but im playing on the Xbox360. 2.99.250.109 16:00, 29 August 2013 (GMT)

I have the Fang, but I haven't started the quest?[edit]

I have Kahzovein's Fang, and can collect heartscales, but I am not even past the Hitting the Books quest... Why was I already presented with it in a random dungeon? 128.61.87.194 21:17, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

It randomly appears before the quest. It is not a quest breaker. You can complete the quest when you get to it as long as you keep the Fang. The Silencer has spokenTalk 21:20, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

You should add a bug to the bug list about this. I have the same problem. It weighs 5 pounds. It's very annoying if you don't know that it's for a late game quest.

Moved[edit]

Kahvozein may be a reference to Aztec priests, who sacrificed innumerable victims.

This was added by an IP a while ago. I can't find any other reference to this anywhere and the name seems unique to TES. The Silencer has spokenTalk 01:23, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Using the page on Dragon Language as a guide, this translates to "Pride - Opposite of - Honor" (Kah Vo Zin) — Unsigned comment by 93.97.62.237 (talk) at 14:40 on 1 July 2013

Locations[edit]

For the VN tag: The location must be a dungeon that is labeled as a Dragon Priest lair and contains a boss container (chest or something similar). This probably means there's lots of locations; I'm not sure how many fit this label, though. Vely►t►e 16:24, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

I've never found the dagger somewhere else than Volskygge, and I've completed that quest 5 times already. It's even there before the quest's start. Elakyn 17:59, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay.. I managed to dig this up. It shows a list of all lairs that has a dragon priest boss. There are eight of them, but what I'm unsure of is whether all eight of them contains a boss chest or something similar. The article lists six places, but only five of them are identified as dragon priest lairs (the article states Lost Valkygg as a possible location but it isn't inside the list I found). There are three more possible lairs that are not in the article (Skuldafn is one of them, but it is only accessible in the main questline, so make that two). So, what do you guys make of all this? Can someone more well-versed in CSList dig up more information that i could not? xD ~ Psylocke 19:56, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I just found it in High Gate Ruins (one of the Word Wall chests). Wyldebill 10:05, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I just found it in Forelhost, in the Refectory in a chest behind the Dragon Priest boss.HoggyDog (talk) 06:15, 15 October 2014 (GMT)

Knotwork is correct in my quest log[edit]

Despite the bug list, the Knotwork appears correct for me. Perhaps it was fixed in a patch. --JohnJSal (talk) 23:17, 9 November 2012 (GMT)

It is listed as fixed in the unofficial patch. I can see nothing like that in the regular game data. --Alfwyn (talk) 23:32, 9 November 2012 (GMT)

Unable to talk to Tolfdir?[edit]

Referring to the bug recently posted - there's a stretch of several quests at the College during which it's not possible to talk to ANYone there about anything - they'll simply express concern over the current events and not allow the conversation to continue. If you finish the College questline, they should all return to business as usual. Not sure if this is what happened to the person who posted this bug, but just putting it out there as a possibility. The Fang Gone Forever?[edit]

I gave the Fang to my adopted daughter as a toy and it appears that there is no way to get it back from her, I have tried giving her a new dagger to replace it but to no avail and children cannot be pickpocketed or traded with. Anybody got any ideas or is the quest now not completable? Syko Conor (talk) 23:03, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

Unless you're on PC I don't think there's a way to get it back. Maybe (and that's a big maybe) the game will make a duplicate if you start the quest, but even then it would only work if you didn't already start it. Elakyn (talk) 10:17, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
Turns out I had already done the quest (and forgotten about it) when I gave her the Fang so I guess that's ok. But yes, I can think of no way to get it back from her. Syko Conor (talk) 14:37, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
It's marked as a quest item until the quest is completed, so you probably can't give it away before that. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 14:49, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
It is possible to get weapons and other stuff back from children by giving them anoughter of the same type and then look in the chest that they put items in. 2.99.250.109 16:05, 29 August 2013 (GMT)

Tolfdir selling Mass Paralysis before even starting quest?[edit]

I've just bought the Mass Paralysis spell tome from Tolfdir. My Alteration is only at 76 so I can't have started this quest, but I have found Kahvozein's Fang in a dungeon. Could that be the cause? He doesn't even have the regular Paralyze spell yet. Ejia (talk) 22:15, 17 July 2013 (GMT)

If your Alteration is at 76, Toldir should have Paralyze for sale already. Have you done Restoration Ritual Spell? Without patch, this quest makes Mass paralysis available before Alteration ritual spell is started.117.4.10.14 12:15, 18 July 2013 (GMT)

"Kahvozein" is Misspelled in The Quest Text[edit]

I am looking at this quest in-game as I type this, and both the quest text in my Journal and the Quest Objective Marker text on my map show Kavohzein's Fang, not "Kahvozein's" Fang as it is shown in several places here. This misspelling caused my correctly-spelled UESP search to fail to find this article. The problem is, when I picked up the actual dagger, its name is Kahvozein's Fang, exactly as spelled here. So what we have, apparently, is an inconsistency in how the game itself thinks it should be spelled. I don't know how to correct this and still leave the links functional.HoggyDog (talk) 04:54, 15 October 2014 (GMT)

It's already noted in the bugs section of the page so it doesn't need to be noted anywhere else. •WoahBro►talk 12:41, 15 October 2014 (GMT)
Hoggy placed it in the notes today and I moved it down. In response to Lorenut, without it being spelt out on the page, the search was not picking the alternate spelling up in the quest stages meaning until now the spelling was effectively not findable on the site. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:54, 15 October 2014 (GMT)
Thanks for pointing that out Silencer. That clears things up for me pretty well. My mistake. Lorenut (talk) 14:59, 15 October 2014 (GMT)

Revered Dragons do not drop the scales[edit]

It appears Revered Dragons don't drop the scales when looting them with the dagger in your hand. Legendary dragons drop them normally however. Not sure if its due to the mods I have or what, can anyone else confirm this?

Just carved one out of a revered dragon. Xbox 360, latest patch.--CStone (talk) 23:25, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Not a College of Winterhold quest.[edit]

It does not have the College of Winterhold quest icon. Therefore, this should be categorized as a sidequest, the same as Skyrim:Forbidden Legend, another sidequest that requires you to join the College to activate.

If nobody objects, I'll go ahead and make the necessary changes in a few days. --Morrolan (talk) 01:19, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure I follow this logic. According to the wiki, nothing but the main College questline uses the mage knotwork. If this is really the only College side quest to use this icon, then a lot of articles need to be corrected. —Legoless (talk) 17:20, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
In the CK, all the other ritual quests are marked with the type "Mages' Guild" while this quest is marked with the type "None". Similarly, the other side quests are marked as being the Mages' Guild type as well, aside from the Miscellaneous quests and stuff like Forbidden Legend. So I believe this quest may indeed be unique from the other College side quests. Forfeit (talk) 02:14, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
