Rescue Wylandriah from a Master Vampire.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Speak with Florentius Baenius.
  2. Rescue a kidnapped victim from vampires.
  3. Report back to Florentius.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

After rescuing Florentius Baenius, speak to him, and ask "What can I do to help?" He will either refer you to somebody else, or he will explain: "Arkay has some grave news, friend. Your friend, kidnapped! A vicious night stalker rules over a group of [class] - seeks to gain leverage over the righteous. Arkay's never clear on life and death. Is [s]he still alive? There's always hope..."

The victim can be nearly anyone with a positive disposition towards you, including followers and spouses. He or she will be held captive at a random bandit camp or warlock lair, bound and helpless.

Travel to the destination and cut your way through the enemies until you reach the victim. To release them from their bindings, simply interact with them. Once you have rescued them, kill the boss-level vampire in the dungeon before returning to Florentius for your reward: a leveled enchanted item.

Notes[edit]

  • If Dragonborn is installed, some radiant locations may be on Solstheim. If you are in Skyrim, you will not receive a quest marker pointing you to the quest location, but must travel to Solstheim first (at which point any quest markers you have to quests in Skyrim will disappear).
  • If the radiant location selected is Gallows Rock there will only be Silver Hand members inside; they will also kill the vampire for you.
  • Even if the victim dies before or after you rescue them, the objective will still count as completed.

Bugs[edit]

  • After completing one quest for Florentius Baenius, this quest may trigger unexpectedly when you next talk with the victim.
  • The victim may thank you as if married to you, even if they aren't.
  • Upon entering the dungeon, a fight may ensue between its regular occupants, the vampire and the victim, leading to either vampire's or the victim's death, the latter case being somewhat irritating to the player, who was tasked with saving the victim, but had no chance to accomplish the rescue. UDGP/USSEP fix is partial only, either not all dungeons are fixed, or the fix does not apply for games started without the patch.
  • The victim may be your current follower. If this is the case, you can simply talk to them, then go kill the vampire that Florentius points you to.
  • If the victim is your spouse, they may not actually be kidnapped and will remain at your home requesting help, which triggers the quest incorrectly. The target location will have no vampire to kill, or you may not even be informed of a target location at all, so you won't be able to complete the quest. It has been suggested that this also may actually have something to do with being a werewolf, because every time you go to the place of rescue it says you have consumed a heart without actually doing so and you don't even have to be in werewolf form. However, the "spouse" bug has occurred in cases where the player has not joined the Companions, and is not a werewolf.
    • PC Only The Unofficial Dawnguard Patch, version 2.0.7, fixes this bug.
    • Load a save from before talking to your spouse, then go speak with Florentius, and the quest will start and progress normally.
    • Alternatively, open the console and type: setstage DLC1RH06 255 - this will "complete" the quest properly (and even give you a reward item), then go back to talk to Florentius or Gunnar to start the next quest in the series. It is not clear whether this will or will not result in a leftover vampire at the location next time you head there.
    • If you want to stop doing the radiant Dawnguard quests and have none of them remaining in your journal, do it immediately after completing a "Rescue" quest. After that, the notional next one is bound to be a different and less buggy one, and is less likely to be "started incorrectly" without talking to one of the quest givers.
  • The victim may continue on with the regular daily routine, and not stay in the dungeon with the vampire in it. If this happens, you can complete the quest by killing the vampire, then going and "rescuing" the victim wherever the victim has moved to.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage DLC1RH06 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest DLC1RH06.
