Jofthor and Boti discussing their daughter's future

Jofthor is a Nord farmer living in Ivarstead, where he owns Fellstar Farm with his wife Boti and daughter Fastred. He is rather overprotective of his daughter who wishes to become an adventurer. When speaking to his wife, he admits to her that he is handling their daughter a bit hard and is simply afraid that he'll lose his only daughter.

Jofthor forbids Fastred from eloping with Bassianus Axius, believing that her lovestruck attitude will pass. In addition, with Ivarstead's youth mostly gone in search of better opportunities, he is very reluctant to let her go.

He wears a set of farm clothes and a pair of boots. He is equipped with a leveled dagger which can be up to elven quality, and carries a key to the farmhouse, as well as a selection of common loot and gold.

Dialogue[edit]

His greetings:

"You a pilgrim or just passing through?"
"My daughter's driving me crazy, so forgive me if I'm a bit on edge."
"If you ever settle down to have children, think twice before you do it."
"Any idea how I can get my daughter's head out of the clouds?"
"Watch yourself on High Hrothgar, I hear wolves prowl the steps."
"I can't believe Fastred ran off to Riften with that... that bastard."
"I can't believe Fastred's gone. I... I should have been nicer to her."

When spoken to:

Anything you can tell me about High Hrothgar?
"They call the path to the monastery the 7,000 Steps. Can you imagine? I'm not certain if I could even make it to the top without collapsing from exhaustion."

His goodbyes:

"Just get out of town as fast as you can. Nothing for anyone here."

Conversations[edit]

Boti: "You have to let Fastred follow her heart. You can't tell her what to do."
Jofthor: "She's our only child, Boti. Am I to throw her to the wolves?"
Boti: "You're hardly throwing her to the wolves. She just wants to see the world... just like I did when I was her age."
Jofthor: "And if she decides to leave Ivarstead, what then? No, no... I can't bear the thought."
Jofthor: "Fastred, I wanted to talk with you."
Fastred: "What is it now?"
Jofthor: "Wilhelm said he saw you speaking to one of the pilgrims on the 7,000 Steps. I told you that I didn't want you to go up there."
Fastred: "I know what you said, but I only wanted to speak to him for a moment."
Jofthor: "Well it stops now, and that's final!"

The Book of Love[edit]

Your daughter asked me to speak to you.
"I'm sure I know what this is about. She thinks she's in love with Bassianus and wants to leave town. With him. Let me tell you how I see it. Until a few months ago, the girl was head over heels for Klimmek. Wouldn't stop talking about him. Now if I thought she was really in love with Bassianus, that would be one thing. But she's a child. It will pass."
Why do you want her to stay so badly?
"Look around here. There's not much left. Used to be a good-sized town, but folks have been moving to Riften for a while now. If all the young people leave, what happens to Ivarstead?"
You think she'll get over it?
"You know how children are. Her fancies change with the moon. And like always, the boy lacks any kind of spine. He'll need some convincing. A little push and this would all be simpler."
