Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The Cup of Fortune[edit]

Go to sleep

After filling the cup labeled “Fortune”, you will need to find a bed and sleep. There is a convenient bed roll nearby with a quest marker. Go to sleep and after awakening, you will get an update of new items in your inventory.

Read the letter called Rogue's Job Offer. In this letter you will learn of a High Elf named Cuinanthil who is a rich mark begging to be robbed. Cuinanthil has just arrived in Markarth with his ever-present Dark Elf bodyguard Inimoro. The rogue lets you know the treasure is being hidden somewhere in the Reach and lays out a plan to get to it. You find out the bodyguard has a weakness for Sujamma, a drink from his homeland. (Optional) The first thing you need to do is create a Spiked Sujamma drink to poison the bodyguard. One of the items left in your inventory is a vial of spiked poison. Sujamma is not sold by any of the traders in Skyrim so you may have to go to Solstheim to get some. After acquiring the Sujamma, go to a cookpot and mix the spiked vial with the Sujamma.

Silver Blood Inn[edit]

Cuinanthil and his bodyguard

Once you have the spiked drink head to Markarth and talk to the owner of the Silver-Blood Inn and convince him to sell your Sujamma. Your dialogue choices will include several price options to persuade him to buy your drink, or you can just give to him at no cost. He won’t refuse free Sujamma so you will always have that option if your Speech skills are not high enough. Cuinanthil and his bodyguard will roam around the inn. The bodyguard will stay close to Cuinanthil at all times. At some point he will take a break and drink the Spiked Sujamma and begin to get violently sick. He will remain this way for a long period of time. While the bodyguard is down, find and pickpocket the ring seal from Cuinanthil. Depending on how long it takes you to pickpocket Cuinanthil, the bodyguard will soon recover after you have successfully stolen the ring seal. Head out of the inn and follow the quest marker to the Warrens and enter the door.

I’ve been looking for you…[edit]

The dead courier

Follow the quest marker into the Warrens until you come to the body of a dead courier. Read the note of instructions nearby. They tell you to seal the letter with the ring, dress as the courier, and deliver the fake letter back to Cuinanthil. Be sure to remove all your armor and disguise yourself as the courier. Seal the fake letter and head back to the inn. When you return to Cuinanthil, you must select the dialogue options that all couriers say in order to fool Cuinanthil.

Bodyguard in trouble

Say, “I’ve been looking for you…” and then, “Got something I'm supposed to deliver - your hands only." Cuinanthil will accept your ruse and read the letter. Then he accuses his bodyguard of wrongdoing. The bodyguard will start to fight city guards and civilians trying to escape his fate. You will get a quest update to help the guards kill the bodyguard. Once the bodyguard is dead, Cuinanthil will run out of the inn to check on his treasure. You are to follow him.

Hidden in plain sight[edit]

The vault

Cuinanthil has taken you back to the Warrens, to a hidden vault deep in the squalor of the derelict district. Follow him into the vault area. While inside you will get a quest update to confront Cuinanthil. At this point the mysterious rogue will enter the vault with you and confront Cuinanthil too. They will fight until Cuinanthil is dead. You will realize after reading Cuinanthil's journal that the two are brothers fighting over a large family fortune. Speak to Ernanthil and, as a reward, you will get a small amount of gold. You can barter and try to get more out of the deal at this point. Killing Ernanthil is allowed after finishing the dialogue. You can steal all the loot at this point.

Notes[edit]

  • The Spiked Vial uses the same model as the Pest Poison from the quest Dampened Spirits.
  • There are two variants of the "Rogue's Instructions" found on the dead courier in the Warrens. Each variant is gender dependent.
  • The copy of the Unique "Master Transmute" spell tome is found within the large chest in the hidden vault

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ccKRTSSE001_QuestFortune stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest ccKRTSSE001_QuestFortune.
