Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Kill an NPC.
  2. Receive a letter from a courier.
  3. (Conditional) Visit the letter's sender for a reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

When you kill a person, it is possible you will be given a message from a courier from that person's enemy, claiming that they hated the person too and are glad you took care of them. If the relationship between the enemy and the victim was foe or worse, the person thanking you will request that you visit them for a reward through a reward letter. Otherwise, they’ll just send you a letter of thanks.

The reward is 50 gold for each relationship rank below zero.

Notes[edit]

  • Rich enemies were supposed to give a reward of 200 gold per rank, but no NPCs in the game are flagged as rich.

Bugs[edit]

  • It is possible for the Dragonborn to receive a letter from themselves, rendering it impossible to complete the quest normally.
  • If the relationship between enemy and victim is -3 (enemy) or worse, the reward letter will be delivered, but the objective to collect the reward will not be given.
  • If letter is placed on a bookshelf may become blank and render the reward unobtainable.
  • It's possible to get the letter even if you killed the enemy "in disguise", such as being transformed into a Werewolf or Vampire Lord, where NPCs aren't supposed to recognize you. ?

Quest Stages[edit]

An enemy's gratitude (WIKill04)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
1
Objective 1: Read the letter from <Alias=Enemy>
10
Objective 10: Collect the reward from <Alias=Enemy> for killing <Alias=Victim> (conditional on relationship rank)
  • The following empty quest stages were omitted from the table: 0, 100.
Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage WIKill04 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest WIKill04.
