Fun With The Staff

If you can get a large group of people in a small location to start fighting the Staff will turn it into DVR television. You can basically watch a battle frame by frame and it's actually quite funny when projectiles get involved such an archer shooting an arrow the arrow will freeze in the air. I've yet to see if you can grab it. I also assume works with magic castings. — Unsigned comment by TheBoogeyman209 (talkcontribs) on 3 July 2007

Sanguine's Daedric Quest

As far as I understand from reading of this staff's abilities, could this be used for Sanguine's quest? Or does the spell used count as "hitting" the character, and so, not work? — Unsigned comment by Pridds (talkcontribs) on 22 July 2007

On Sanguine's quest, you have to use the spell Sanguine gives you. --Oblivion nerd 01:18, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Freezings

When you fire the Staff, do NPCs that are dying freeze as well? (If someone is killed just as they freeze, do you see the body floating in midair, as it falls?) — Unsigned comment by Merco (talkcontribs) on 15 August 2007

No.72.204.136.126 19:17, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Note

Should it be noted that the characters you wish to freeze need to be combat ready (ie. battle music going off, and they're charging at you)? Right now it isn't. Shadownet Ninja 23:48, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

Might be helpful if that were mentioned. I just completed the Symbols of Office quest for the first time (I didn't get Shivering until very recently) and was playing around with the staff before going out to beat the tar out of Jyggalag and was wondering why it wasn't using Sheogorath's voice to yell anything and wasn't actually freezing anyone. I guess now I know it was because Dark Seducers and Golden Saints patrolling the palace don't count because they're passive. Haha. --Skogul 04:20, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

Creatures?

Does the staff affect creaatures? --Merco 12:23, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

It certainly does affect creatures. --Mankar Camoran 13:04, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Range?

What is the effective range of the Staff? --Merco 05:29, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

It's range is 75ft. I'll add it to the article. --Mankar Camoran 09:12, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

Daedric Artifact?

Since Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness, then his staff should be considered a Daedric Artifact. So it raises the question why it cant be given to Martin in the Blood of the Daedra quest, sure this would not be the smartest thing to do but non the less should technically be possible. — Unsigned comment by Jim 909 (talkcontribs) on 20 February 2008

Considering the fact that the shivering isles was created long after the the main oblivion storyline was written and programmed, it is understandable that the developers did not bother adding it as a daedric artifact, also sean bean might get a bit irritated having to come back to voice one line! Volanaro 10:27, 22 February 2008 (EST)

The Voice

Shouldn't the article say that Jygallag's voice says HOLD, and RELEASE? That's who's voice it sounds like. — Unsigned comment by Merco (talkcontribs) on 24 February 2008

They are both the same person, but it does sound like the Jygallag part of him saying it. Consider it added. 77BeTa77 14:40, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

shrine of sheogorath

does anyone know what happens if you visit the shrine of sheogorath after becoming sheogorath? I had already done all the daedric quests before installing the expansion and dont really want to start from scratch just to see what happens. — Unsigned comment by 99.228.59.231 (talk) on 23 April 2008

The quest stays the same, but the dialogue differs. Check out the Sheogorath's quest page for all the details. --Timenn < talk > 14:40, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

Bugs

I used it at Fort Sutch, for the undocumented quest "Attack on Fort Sutch" Since there is close to zero chance for the Imperial Army to live through 10+ Xyvlai, 3+ Spider Daedra, Storm Atronach, Daedroth and Dremora Valkynaz at level 40, I used the staff, enter the gate, before I heard the "Release" then came back within 5 mins, found 1 Imperial Soldier alive who thanked me. Ok, it seemed as though I had accomplished the mission with zero casualties. But no...Everyone except that one ordinary soldier was still unconcious. And weirdest thing of all, the rest of the soldiers no longer had their helms on, and were all bald headed... And There was 1 Dremora Valkynaz still alive but also unconcious. Reloading the game, leaving the area didn't help. And the staff is no longer functional.

The same thing happened to me with Wabbajak but on 360. I used it at Water's Edge during FG quest Inflitration and the Sheep that turned into a Troll killed the resident and when I exited the house; was transported to Chorrol. The Wabbajak then became useless. I guess the sheep became a troll permanently and died somewhere and the game considers it as if I'm already using the staff/Wabbajak on another creature. But I can't see any reason for the Staff to remove everyone's helms... And the effect to be permenant.

And yes I know how to use it. I can be surrounded by enemies and it still won't work.--Webdemon00 16:16, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

Like Wabbajak, it works on Mehrunes Dagon as well but NOT on Martin. — Unsigned comment by Webdemon00 (talkcontribs) on 8 September 2008

Pickpocketing?

Is it possible to pickpocket NPCs 'frozen' by the staff? If so, it would be very useful for neutralizing enemies by removing useful items etc. The-manta 12:44, 25 October 2008 (EDT)

I don't think so because it renders them unconscious, but frozen in place. That would be useful though, to simply take your enemies' weapons to nuetralize them. --Oblivion nerd 23:24, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Guards

Does the Staff of Sheogorath affect guards as normal? I have noticed that many such things do not. The-manta 12:44, 25 October 2008 (EDT)

Yes, it does. --Oblivion nerd 23:22, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Damage weapon/armor?

Will any of these spells work? I know that the article states that nothing can damage the creatures frozen themselves, but is it possible to cast disintegrate weapon/armor on them with an effect, since the spells don't technically damage the target's stats in any way? Paddymew 21:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

No, they won't work. Even spells that affect the equipment rather than the actor are applied to the actors instead of the equipment. The spell effect than simply affects whatever the actor is wearing. Since the staff puts all targets in a so-called ghost-mode, they are not affected by any spells cast on them. --Timenn < talk > 09:43, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Moving the frozen people?

Can you move, as in shove, the frozen people? 173.32.11.67 11:24, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

You cannot interact with them in any way. —Elliot(T-C) 17:53, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Falling Through the Ground

(moved from the article)
  • If The Staff of Sheogorath is dropped it (more often than not) falls through the ground. If you wish to drop the Staff, eg: for decoration, be sure to save before you do.

I just spent several minutes experimenting and couldn't get this to happen once. It isn't a bug listen on the Unofficial SI Patch fixlist either. This sounds more like a one-off than a regular occurrence. –rpehTCE 16:15, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

that has happened to about 3 of my staffs...was it in the arch mages quarter by any chance? — Unsigned comment by 213.191.230.80 (talk) at 19:10 on 25 September 2010
There are always some places where items (or people) are more likely to fall through the map. The Arch-Mage Quarters is definitely one of them. It only took a few tries to start losing items, particularly when I was standing near the bed. Staves seemed to be more prone to the problem than anything else (as documented on the Glitches page), and in the few tries that I did, I was able to lose the Staff of Sheogorath more easily than the Staff of Flame. So while it seems like the original claim is correct, at least in certain locations, since items falling through the map can happen with a variety of items in a variety of places, it definitely doesn't deserve mention on this page in particular. Robin Hoodtalk 20:22, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Why is the staff not working anymore!

It used to say Hold! 15 seconds later as it should then Releases them from their somewhat parilised state but now they just are surrounded by some purple light and nothing happens. It should only work when someone is attacking you and no matter what the circumstances, IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!! some please help!— Unsigned comment by 84.71.164.212 (talk) at 21:03 on 31 July 2009

You are using it on people who are battle-ready right? Because if you use it on someone or something that is not currently hostile to you or another target, or that could be made hostile on sight of a target, it will not do anything.--Xbomber 18:03, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I have the same problem. My staff of sheogorath doesn't work anymore either. I'm definitely using it on hostile targets, but I get no voice and no freezing. It just makes the staff firing sound and a dark, purple, spell, cloud, thing around the things i shoot...it pretty much sucks...anyone have a fix for this? --173.30.172.226 23:18, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Lost staff?

I was recently in my house in Bruma, and was placing some stuff, but accidentally dropped the staff, and can't find it, looked for 20+ minutes, still can't find it.. Is there a way to get another staff? I'm on the Xbox 360 Version, if you're wondering.

EDIT: Well, I think it fell through the floor :(

Sheogorath's version of the staff

Another doubt that I have is that the staff that Sheogorath haves has a difference,it dosen't have those sticks at the end of the staff that the player's staff haves. Is this staff a different staff? Sayonara 21:29, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that would be Sheogorath's cane; FormID: SESheogorathCane (00094C2F) --S'drassa T2M 01:41, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

staff bug?

at the end of the quest Symobls of Office, after sheogorath transforms. i went to the fountain and its inaccesable. The green marker is on haskill and he keeps saying that ive got enough to go on. and when i go back to knifepoin hollow, the staff is floating above Dyus's lap. but i hav the incomplete staff. whats going on? the fountain tree door is still closed!203.171.196.250 00:08, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

And have you completed the quest The Roots of Madness too? Before you have completed that quest, the fountain is surrounded by crystals of order and thus making it inaccessable. --S'drassa T2M 01:11, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Staff progress?

(moved from the article)
  • When looking at some quest stages in Construction Set, for example in Ghosts of Vitharn, we can find comments associated to some script results, making a mention about points of Mania and Dementia. It might be a suggestion that at some point of development, there was an idea of tracking the player's choices throughout his journey in Shivering Isles to check which side of madness he represents. It might be connected with the fact that there are two versions of unfinished Staff of Sheogorath, and player would supposedly receive the one that suits his behaviour. There are no signs of actual adding such points though, and only one version of the staff can be obtained regardless of player's behaviour.
Moved because I'm really not sure what point this is trying to make... rpeh •TCE 11:32, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
I considered it as an interesting curiosity, similar to other such trivias in other articles. The thing is, I didn't know where I should put this (as I started to write this on Ghosts of Vitharn article, and realised at some moment that it has very little to do with this quest). - ZuTheSkunk 21:15, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

point

is their any real reason to use this staff apart from to make a quick getaway cause you cant attak people or do anything to them and 15 seconds later the fight starts back up again.--(Theblack7 19:06, 12 December 2010 (UTC))

Invisible bullets, again...

I get invisible bullets here too. See here. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 19:13, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Fixed. You can do it yourself, though. rpeh •TCE 19:18, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I didn't know how, but I just looked your edit and I found out. I'll do it myself in the future. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 19:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
