All his dialogue[edit]

Okay, some of these Shivering Isles NPCs have tons of dialogue - when I did the dialogue section, I wrote down all Herdir's quest-related dialogue as well but couldn't figure out how to fit it on the page - or if it was even relevant at all. So, for the record, here is all his quest-related tips and tricks. Maybe some of it can be used somewhere, and now it is uploaded.

  • “It would seem that Anya Herrick may know something. It could be nothing, but it’s certainly worth following up on, don’t you think? We should have a little chat with her as soon as possible. I look forward to it; I get the feeling she avoids me at times.”
  • “Anya Herrick, dear Inquisitor. She’s been named as someone of interest. I do look forward to chatting with her, don’t you?”
  • “Anya claims to have been approached by Ma'zaddha. Perhaps there's something to this after all. We should find him soon. If he knows something, it might be a key to what's going on in Crucible.”
  • “According to Miss Herrick, Ma'zaddha has been pressuring her. He would be our next target, if you will.”
  • “Ma'zaddha is reluctant to speak to you, and I assume there's good reason. It would be worth finding another way to get him to talk. There must be someone in Crucible who knows more. We should talk to more people about what's going on."
  • “Ma'zaddha is clearly withholding something. It would seem that direct pressure has no effect, so we’ll have to try another route. Perhaps we can convince someone else in Crucible to tell us a bit more about his recent activities. That might loosen his tongue.”
  • “Ma'zaddha is meeting Nelrene at night. How illicit! Make every effort to be present for this conversation. It may give us something to hold over Ma'zaddha and get him to talk.”
  • “If Ma'zaddha has indeed been consulting with Nelrene of her Ladyship's guard, that would provide us with some excellent leverage. If the two meet regularly, you might have a chance to eavesdrop and learn more about what's going on.”
  • “You’ve heard Ma'zaddha. Isn't it time to confront him with the fact?”
  • “After overhearing Ma'zaddha and Nelrene, I'd say you have quite a card to play the next time you speak with him. I certainly look forward to that interaction.”
  • “You have a few options, I believe. Either wait for Ma'zaddha to return with more information, or have a chat with Nelrene in the meantime.”
  • “Ma'zaddha has been most helpful! We’ll have to see what he comes back with. In the meantime, you might consider speaking with Nelrene.”
  • “Nelrene caved in, finally, but we'll need something more to get to the bottom of this. Let's see if Ma'zaddha provides us with more evidence.”
  • “You have what you need, don't you? Time to seek out Muurine, I think.”
  • “You have the evidence you need. It’s time to bring in Muurine.”

Well I'd say that we don't need every single bit of dialogue but we could include a few of the 'best' ones (e.g. number 1, 4 etc.). I do however think that they should go as rumors on Anya and Ma'zaddha's pages rather than as dialogue on Herdir's.

Dialog glitch[edit]

Is it worth noting that when you ask Herdir about the Investigation and then ask "What's my current task?" He'll say "As we're just starting -- as we're just starting out..." like some of the audio glitches in regular Oblivion (such as "Lady Umbranox has hired a new captain of the guard" from male Bretons, etc.)? --205.200.237.168 22:33, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

I just came across that dialog glitch and came looking to see if anyone had mentioned it here. I think it's worth mentioning somewhere, if the audio glitches in regular Oblivion are mentioned, why not this one? 66.31.67.4 23:18, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Herdir's disappearance[edit]

When it came to choosing which Duke to replace, I chose Syl. However, now that I have completed the main quest, Herdir has disappeared and can't be found. I play on the Xbox 360. Can anyone explain this for me? Lisa_McC 21:25, 16 October 2010 (UTC) 21:25, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Only thing I can think of is that he got stuck somewhere. He is essential so he shouldn't die. You could try waiting outside for a while (maybe three days or more) and then seeing if he's back in the torture chambers. -- Jplatinum16 02:28, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
This happened to me too. I was able to find Herdir by waiting about 10 hours in the torture chambers. -- 184.155.81.154 22:29, 10 January 2014‎ (UTC)

Herdir on Fast Travel[edit]

Fast travel out of Crucible with Herdir in train will, of course, send him back to his dungeon. Unfortunately, when returning to his dungeon, the first thing he says is "I'm afraid I cannot follow you beyond this point, Inquisitor. My duties require me to stay within Crucible. I shall be there if you need me"--Lmstearn (talk) 06:55, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
