The Apostles are the "seekers of light", an order founded by Ciirta after she discovered Sheogorath's absence during the previous Greymarch. Because of her belief that Sheogorath had abandoned his people to die, she founded a separatist faction of those who have lost their loyalty to Sheogorath. They are only found in Ciirta's stronghold, The Howling Halls.

Apostles are easily identified due to the maroon Apostle Robes they wear, which also emit a halo of light. Wearing their robes allows the player to pass between Apostles without being attacked. They can be found pacing around the dark halls, occasionally praying at the various shrines, reading, eating and sleeping. None of them will respawn if killed.

There are nine unnamed apostles in total: 6 Imperials, 2 Nords and a Redguard. All apostles are part of the relevant faction and two (the Redguard and an Imperial) are also part of the traitors faction. The two traitors, however, will still be hostile to the player as a regular Apostle would.

All Apostles possess the standard Heretic spells: birthsign, lesser power and leveled set of spells. They all wear an enchanted robe and are equipped, with the exception of the two traitors, with an apostle dagger. They also carry the key to Ciirta's room, a mortar & pestle, a random leveled potion and scroll (both 75% chance) and up to three more Restore Health potions (each individual potion has a 19% chance of appearing; the number and quality of potions changes with level). In addition, all Apostles but the two traitors, an Imperial and a Nord will carry a few gold coins.

Due to their Heretic Mage class, Apostles' Blade skill remains at novice level even at very high player levels, leaving their melee attacks somewhat underpowered. In addition, the two traitorous Apostles have somewhat underpowered spells. As they have the regular Heretic class, they do not have Destruction and Alteration as a major skill or a magic specialisation. Due to this and NPC skill leveling mechanisms, they are only able to cast novice spells, even at higher levels.

Notes[edit]

  • After the quest Symbols of Office is completed, the Apostles inhabiting The Howling Halls are replaced by ordinary Zealots.
  • Talking to one of the Apostles while not in disguise will result in the "I HAVE NO GREETING" bug.
