NPC levels[edit]

In terms of levels there are several types of NPCs in the game:

  • those in neutral zones, who always (at least for now) have the same level, independent of player's level (e.g., Kazbur the Wanderer or Abuana);
  • majority of NPCs in alliance zones, whose level depends on the player's progress: levels 1-50 in an original alliance or ranks Veteran1-10 in veteran zones;
  • a few NPCs who have one shop in one of the alliances and another one in the Hollow City (e.g., Davilia Ralas or Angier Stower);

There was a discussion on quest pages in terms of different levels. Now I have the same question about NPCs. Do we list all the NPC levels on a page (e.g., Kareem Winvale), only the original alliance level (e.g., Chamberlain Weller) or display them as a range, as it was done on this page for instance?   ~ Shuryard (talk) 16:49, 12 March 2015 (GMT)

I like how that Winvale page looks, just from an aesthetic point of view. However, it's worth keeping in mind that ZOS plan to remove the Veteran system "soon", and all future content will be scaled. It may soon be time to call into question the relevance of individual NPC/creature levels (and souls for that matter). —Legoless (talk) 20:33, 14 March 2015 (GMT)
Heh. Soon™. Hypothetically, if the removal of Veteran Ranks puts everything that used to have a rank down to Level 50, then I think only the pre-50 level would be necessary, as we can add details to Veteran (or its relevant equivalent) for any changes to that level in the Cadwell zones. In that respect, the level is easy; it's the stats that are more difficult to handle. Does every NPC of a certain level have the same health? That may be something to investigate for starters.--Enodoc (talk) 22:57, 14 March 2015 (GMT)
I'm not sure how the VR removal is going to look like... About stats though. From what I observed so far, general population is usually lower on health than vendors and combat-ready NPCs of the same level, and members of the same group tend to have the same number of health points. Also City Guards are another category with thousands of health points. But there is always an exception... For instance, in Cat's Eye Quay general population is level 3 with 931 points of health, while Fists of Thalmor have 1433 points being the same level. However, there are two characters, Astorne and Khad, who are level 3, but with 100,000 points of health...   ~ Shuryard (talk) 23:45, 14 March 2015 (GMT)

Health field[edit]

Should we make the "Health" field disappear on NPC pages if not specified? In most cases, it's completely useless information. If the NPC is not hostile, and can never become hostile (which I believe is the majority of named NPCs), their health is 100% irrelevant. It only serves to add all such pages into the Missing Data category, which is by now so crowded as to be basically useless. Nobody is going to go through all 15,000+ pages and fix all those - even a bot couldn't do it because we don't have that information in the database for most of these. Simply removing the requirement to have a Health field would likely cut that category down by half. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 14:10, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

I'm not opposed to having it not appear, but doing it simply because the maintenance category is too big since really a good option either. The vast majority of NPCs ARE attackable. If you attack a justice neutral NPC (Which most of the non-hostile NPCs are) they will attack you back. Some of the NPCs with less health might be able to be overwhelmed and killed quickly, which minimizes the chance someone sees and the bounty skyrockets. Failed pickpocketing can also turn many NPCs hostile. Jeancey (talk) 15:49, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
