Doubts-the-Moon says some mercenaries in Stormhold are stirring up trouble between the Dark Elves and Argonians.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Doubts-the-Moon.
  2. Convince the mercenaries to leave.
  3. Talk to Hjotild for your reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

As you make your way through the market in Stormhold, you'll come across an interesting Argonian. Speak to Doubts-the-Moon to start the quest.

The Saxhleel will speak in obscure riddles about "a blue reed in yellow peat." He'll tell you how some Nord mercenaries have come to town and are taking advantage of his fellow Argonians "swaggering and taking what they will," while leaving the Dark Elves alone. What's worse, the authorities do nothing.

He'll go on to proposition you in hopes you'll "encourage" them to leave town. Not wanting to draw attention to what he's telling you, he suggests you pretend to be discussing a sales transaction.

You must now convince four mercenaries to leave. You can intimidate some of them, bribe others, and appeal to the better nature of one or two more.

One mercenary can be peacefully convinced to leave if you accuse him of racism:

How much coin do they pay you to harass Argonians?
"I don't bully innocent folk. Not for the pittance I'm paid.
But you're right. This isn't what I signed up for."

Another can be intimidated:

[Intimidate] Leave town, while you still have legs to walk on.
"Whoa, whoa! They just pay me to look tough. Think I'd be dumb enough to tangle with you?
Besides, this place was getting on my nerves. I'll never scrub the smell out of my armor."

Others can be bribed:

What will it take to get you to leave town?
"Are you serious? Well, you'd have to buy out my contract. You got that kind of coin on you?"
This should buy you out of your contract. [0LeveledLeveled Gold]

Once the four mercenaries have been dealt with, return to Doubts-the-Moon's market stand. You'll find him missing. Speak to Hjotild, who is leaning against one of the tentpoles.

Hjotild informs you that Doubts-the-Moon has had to leave town unexpectedly and has given his shop to Dusk-Scale, permanently. Before you can ask about the arrangement you had with Moon, she'll note that he "said he'd pay you extra for your silence. Said you were smart enough to take a hint."

As you take the payment, you realize that Hjotild is one of the mercenaries that got wise to Moon's scheme and no doubt ran him out of town.

Quest Stages[edit]

Finishes Quest Journal Entry
He asked me to convince some of the mercenaries around Stormhold to leave. Doubts-the-Moon said he didn't care how I did it.
Objective: Convince Mercenaries to Leave: 0/4
Not as many mercenaries patrol Stormhold. I should return to Doubts-the-Moon and deliver the news.
Objective: Talk to Doubts-the-Moon
Finishes quest☑ Doubts-the-Moon wasn't at his stall, but there's a Nord standing nearby. Perhaps she knows where he went.
Objective: Talk to Hjotild

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
