"You will no doubt find more time breaches near these landmarks. Once the Augur attunes to them, it should light a path to the hidden artifacts."
Loremaster Celarus and the Psijic scryers have finally discovered the four remaining pieces of the Staff of Towers. I must travel to remote locations to find and recover these artifacts.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Loremaster Celarus in the main hall of Ceporah Tower.
  2. Find the breaches in Craglorn, Greenshade, Stonefalls and Stormhaven.
  3. Follow the trails to the buried fragments.
  4. Travel back to Artaeum and talk to Loremaster Celarus.
  5. Talk to Loremaster Celarus.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Talk to Loremaster Celarus in Ceporah Tower to start the quest.

"The time has come, initiate. We must gather the final fragments of the Staff of Towers."
All right. Where can I find these fragments?
"According to our scryers' visions, fragments lay buried near the Brothers of Strife in Stonefalls, the Weeping Giant in Stormhaven, Greenheart in Greenshade, and the Spellscar in Craglorn.
Each of these locations hold great Aurbic significance."
What should I do when I reach these locations?
"You will no doubt find more time breaches near these landmarks. Once the Augur attunes to them, it should light a path to the hidden artifacts.
You must move quickly, initiate. Only the Psijic Order is prepared to deal with objects this dangerous."
All right. I'll go and recover the four remaining fragments.

You now receive The Augur of the Obscure. Talk to the Loremaster again.

"There was one other thing I wanted to discuss with you, initiate. It will just take a moment."
Sure, Loremaster. What's on your mind?
"Once you recover these remaining fragments, I would like you to bring them to me directly.
I know that you and Josajeh have grown more familiar, but allowing her to inspect these artifacts without supervision would be most unwise."
You don't trust Josajeh with the staff?
"You misunderstand. I trust Josajeh implicitly. But avoiding temptation is one of the chief pillars of moral action.
Her interest in this artifact and its potential applications is not purely academic. I sense a private, sentimental motive."
Something to do with her family woes?
"Perceptive. Yes—the matter of her family.
It is entirely possible that we have nothing to worry about. But an overabundance of caution is always warranted when it comes to objects of power. Now, I have delayed you long enough. Take care, initiate."

If you speak with Celarus again, he will say:

"Beware the temptations of power, initiate. Countless mages have fallen prey to the allure of legendary artifacts like these fragments.
In all things, seek peace, simplicity, and detachment."

The following table lists the locations of the breaches and fragments, and the quotes from the Augur of the Obscure when you use it near a breach or have found a fragment. When you have used the Augur near a breach a trail of lights will appear. Each light will shine in the direction you have to follow. Follow this light trail until a mound of Dense Earth appears and dig in this earth to find a fragment. When you find the last fragment you will receive the combined Staff Fragments.

Fragment item Location Breach Quotes
Fragment
Snow Throat Fragment Spellscar (Craglorn) (map) Agh! This place is awful! Feels like something's feeding my head through a lumber mill! And that noise! Can you hear that? Let's find this fragment and get out of here!
(map) The Snow Throat Fragment! Congratulations—good for you. Now let's get out of here, eh? My teeth feel like they're going to fall out of my face! Ow. Ow. Ow!
Green Sap Fragment Greenheart (Greenshade) (map) Tree Elves and their trees, am I right? They never sing them into anything interesting. Houses, bridges, chairs …. When is someone going to sing a tree into something useful like a singing land-boat?
(map) The Green-Sap Fragment, eh? You know if you left it in the dirt long enough it would have grown a new tower. Honest!
Red Staff Fragment Brothers of Strife (Stonefalls) (map) Wait a minute … haven't we been here before? Giant stone maniacs strangling each other to death? Bit silly, eh? First one to crumble into rubble loses, I guess.
(map) What's this? The Red Tower fragment? Careful with that one, mate. It's temperamental … and full of spirit-lava. That's the most dangerous kind of lava.
White-Gold Staff Fragment Weeping Giant (Stormhaven) (map) Well, that's a prodigious statue. We don't build statues anymore where I come from. They always ended up coming to life, sneezing death-algorithms all over the place …. Trust me, it was a mess.
(map) This one's a winner, mate. The White-Gold fragment. The Arch-Mage Anumaril carried it around all the time, you know—slung around his scrawny neck like a cow bell! Classic Ayleid, eh?

Return to Artaeum when you have found all fragments and talk to Loremaster Celarus to complete the quest.

"Old Ways be praised. Welcome back, initiate. I hesitate to ask, but I must—were you successful? Did you recover the remaining staff fragments?"
Yes. I collected all four fragments.
"What a great relief. You have the Order's deepest admiration. Alas, more work remains.
With the introduction of four new fragments, the forces drawing the staff together may grow stronger. Hopefully, gathering all eight will yield greater insights."
Do you think you'll be able to store the staff safely?
"If any society of mages can do it, it is the Psijic Order.
You will no doubt be pleased to hear that Josajeh has gained some valuable perspective. We spoke at length, and now she seems committed to disassembling the staff."
That's good to hear. What's next?
"Many tasks yet remain. Even with the Staff of Towers here on Artaeum, the time-storms continue to rage on Tamriel.
But for now, let us give proper recognition to your success. Take this knowledge, initiate. You have most certainly earned it."

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
