Remius Balbus

Remius Balbus is a Breton who can be found in and around his house in Cropsford. He is in love with Madria Dralen but her father disapproves of the relationship.

Dialogue

"Have you ever been in love—madly, desperately, stupidly in love? If so, you know how I feel. Madria and I were meant to be together.
If only I weren't so hateful in her father's eyes."

Why does he hate you?

"Selfishness, I think. Almerel claims to object to me because I'm Breton, but that's not the real reason. He's gotten used to having Madria wait on him hand and foot and he doesn't want to lose that. He doesn't care what she wants."

You sound bitter.

"Who wouldn't be? I debase myself daily to beg him to release Madria and he refuses, insulting me to my face and likely behind my back. I'd like to stab his eyes out, but for Madria's sake, I just walk away and come back when I've calmed down."

Each day he will leave his home and walk to the Dralen's Warehouse to try and convince Almerel that he and Madria should be together. He will occasionally stop and talk with other Cropsford residents.

Remius Balbus: "Wish me luck, Lulius. I'm going to see Almerel again."

Lulius Asellio: "You need more than luck to change Almerel's mind. You need help from the Divines themselves!"

Chef Amadour: "Again Remius? You need to give up. Almerel will never let you have her."

Remius Balbus: "I'll never give up. Madria and I will be together, no matter what her father says!"

Chef Amadour: "Well, best of luck to you, Remius."

When he arrives.

"Almerel—I am here once again, to beg for your daughter's hand in marriage."

Madria Dralen: "I wish you'd give him a chance, father."

Almerel Dralen: "It's that fool Remius again. Madria, go inside. Now."

<Madria goes inside.>

Remius Balbus "Almerel—I am here once again, to beg for your daughter's hand in marriage."

Almerel Dralen: "Never! My daughter will not marry a Breton without renown or prospects. Crawl back in your hole!"

Remius Balbus "I'll never give up. Madria and I are meant to be together!"

Almerel Dralen: "Never. I'll see her dead first!"
