Quaronaldil Duure

Quaronaldil Duure is a High Elf spirit found at the ruins of Ezduiin. In life, he was part of a cult led by his brother. He was killed when he opposed the idea of slaughtering everyone in the city of Skywatch in the name of the so-called prophecy of his crazed brother.

His spirit appears as you approach the vault in Ezduuin:

Quaronaldil Duure: "Traveler. I must speak with you. Meet me at the vault entrance on the ruin's edge."

Meet him there.

"I felt the cursed drawn back to these ruins. Just as I felt your touch release them back to Aetherius."
Who are you?
"I am Quaronaldil. Once a member of the proud Duure family, now lashed to the face of Nirn by shame.
I had the misfortune to call Essanyon Duure my brother."
Who is Essanyon?
"My brother's story is a sad one. Suffice it to say, he is responsible for the trapped souls you see in these ruins. His zealotry doomed these souls to eternal torment."
Why did you reach out to me?
"Ezduiin was home to many powerful mages when I walked beneath the sky. Within this vault lies a magical lattice, very similar in function to the crystal you now hold.
Only much, much more powerful."
Sinrique could use it to free all of the spirits, then?
"Just so. There is one obstacle to overcome. A puzzle that defends the ancient mage's spellwork.
Thirteen tiles surround a chest within. The correct four must be activated to access the lattice."
Thank you, Quaronaldil.
"Good luck, traveler. The lattice may be the last hope for the fallen."
[Persuade] I'm here to help. You must have some idea which tiles to activate.
"Knowing the mage, I only have my best guess. The tiles represent the great constellations.
He held the guardian constellations in high regard—the Mage, the Thief, and the Warrior."
Thank you. I'll try those.
"Good luck, traveler. The lattice may be the last hope for the fallen."
Why are you helping me?
"The shame Essanyon brought to my line grounds me to Nirn. I have hoped, for centuries, to somehow undo his folly."
You're not trapped the way the other spirits are, then?
"No. I saw the growing madness within my brother, and had to act. I spoke with the guard of Skywatch, but not in time to save the targets of his zealotry.
And not in time to stop the slaughter of every soul in Ezduiin."
You tried to stop him. Why are you ashamed?
"You don't understand. I stood beside my brother for months as the cult grew here. I could have ended his madness at any time.
Instead, like a coward, I stayed my hand. Behold the cost."

After getting the crystal, you find him outside the vaults, talking to Sirinque.

Sirinque: "Fascinating!"
Quaronaldil Duure: "Indeed."

If you talk to him before Sirinque, he'll say:

"Sirinque has a keen mind and a good heart. She's the key to freeing Ezduiin."

As Sirinque begins to lift the curse:

Sirinque: "Wish me luck."
Qaronaldil Duure: "Look! It's working!
Qaronaldil Duure: "Almost there."
<The spell is completed.>
Qaronaldil Duure: "You did it! I can feel it!"

Speaking to him while Sirinque is lifting the curse:

"The forging of the crystal with the lattice takes an extraordinary amount of discipline."

If you talk to him again after Sirinque lifts the curse, he will say:

"Thanks to you and Sirinque, these people will be able to find their eternal rest."

After completing the quest, talking to him again will result in him saying:

"While many of the spirits linger, they will slowly dissipate. It will take a while for the reality to sink in."
