Nuxul is an Argonian blacksmith who can be found in Stonewastes. During your quest to reunite the Winds to protect the village from the Sharp-Eyes, Nuxul will assist you. He is also apparently a lightweight.

The Rising Winds[edit]

Either you can speak with Ajim-Ma who will direct you to talk to Nuxul, or you can approach him in the central hut where he gazes at the injured. If the latter, you may hear him mutter, "Kaoc! Is this all that's left of us? We won't survive much more of this."

Speak with him to see what is going on and how you can help:

If you were sent by Ajim-Ma:
Have not started quest:
Have not started quest and Argonian:
"Hmm … a stranger wandering through Stonewastes. Have the scavengers arrived to pick the bones of our village?
If that's why you came, well, there's not much left. We are already squeezed dry."
Ajim-Ma asked me to find you. She said Naxhosa and his bandits have attacked Stonewastes.
"Ah, yes. She told me about her plans to leave us. Can't say I blame her. When that total tzilnech of a warlord Naxhosa moved his people into our ruins, shadows crept upon us.
At one time, we had protectors to keep us safe. But no more."
Ajim-Ma mentioned them. The Winds?
"Those are them. The legendary Four Winds. They defended our village, until one day they had some big argument. After that, they disbanded.
Three moved to the outskirts of the village and one stayed. She died during a raid by Naxhosa's people."
I'm here to convince the remaining Winds to join forces and remove Naxhosa.
"Good, good. Slivers of bright sun might poke through this storm with your help.
Let's start with Elossi, the Sudden Gust. She lives on the outskirts of town in a hut to the northwest. I should join you so that … she doesn't kill you on sight."
"Hey there, ojel. A strange moment to wander into the Stonewastes, I have to say. But, hmm, perhaps you have lucky timing.
You can see that our village has crashed upon some rough rocks. We won't survive much longer without a strong hand to aid us."
What's troubling you?
"A total tzilnech of a warlord called Naxhosa moved his people into our ruins nearby. They raid the village for supplies, but we don't have any defenses.
In times past, Stonewastes was protected by the Four Winds. But they went their separate ways."
Where did they go?
"After a big argument, they disbanded. Three moved to the outskirts of the village, and one stayed. She died during a raid by Naxhosa's people.
We need the Winds to come back together. Can you talk to them? Convince them to return and I'll pay you."
I'll convince the remaining Winds to join forces and remove Naxhosa.
"Good, good. Slivers of bright sun might poke through this storm with your help.
Let's start with Elossi, the Sudden Gust. She lives on the outskirts of town in a hut to the northwest. I should join you so that … she doesn't kill you on sight."
"Hello, stranger. I wish I could offer hospitality, or even some sap from our Hist. But, hmm, perhaps you have lucky timing.
You can see that our village has crashed upon some rough rocks. We won't survive much longer without a strong hand to aid us."
(?)
"A total tzilnech of a warlord called Naxhosa moved his people into our ruins nearby. He demands we hand over a portion of our food and supplies in return for safety.
With the state we're in, we just can't fight back to force them out."
(?)
"Our protectors, the Four Winds, used to keep our village safe. Perhaps you have heard of them? Their deeds are legend.
But they went into solitude. Except one, who Naxhosa cut down. If you can, help me convince them to return. I can reward you."
(?)

After agreeing to help find Elossi, you can ask him some questions before leaving:

Can you tell me more about these Four Winds? / Tell me more about these Four Winds. / Tell me about the Four Winds.
"Of course. Makes sense you would want to know more.
The Four Winds have always wandered this region, defending villages from bandits and such. Ever since our ancestors erected the first hut, four warriors with unique skills have roamed the marsh."
They live forever?
"No, no. When a Wind dies, the title passes to another of their choosing. There is a big celebration with drinks and dancing. And, a little bonding, if you understand.
We treasure the Four Winds. I do not know why they abandoned us."
Can you tell me about the living Winds?
"Well, I already mentioned Elossi, the Sudden Gust. She glides upon her prey better than the quietest hackwing.
Then there is Meer-Ta, the Zephyr Eternal. A practitioner of old Argonian magics. Not very sociable, so do not let him get to you."
And the others?
"Otumi-Ra, the Unrelenting Gale. Stronger than an ox and tougher than a haj mota. Fun at parties, too. A much nimbler dancer than you would expect.
Then there was Satul-Sa, the Steady Breath. The only one to stay here and protect us. But no more."
How did Satul-Sa die?
"When those bandits first came to raid our village, she fought them off easily. We thought that was the end of it.
But soon they returned, and something had changed. They cut her down like a rotted tree. We have not been free of them since."
What can you tell me about Naxhosa's bandits? / What do you know about the bandits? / What can you tell me about these bandits?
"As a guess, I would say they are Lut-Eileel—Sharp-Eyed People. A petty tribe who revel in preying on other Argonians. They build nothing, but have no problem leeching off others to survive.
May their spirits never find dirt."
What about the warlord Naxhosa?
"He is a vicious, cackling hyena. The first time I saw him, I swear his eyes were as black as a well.
Quick with a blade, too. He made the first blow when Satul-Sa fell. I will never forget his laugh as she bled. Like I said, a total tzilnech."
Who are you? / Tell me about yourself.
"Well, I used to be the local blacksmith. I do good work, nothing special. But it keeps the village doors from falling off and the tools sharp.
Since Naxhosa though, all I can do is patch up the injured after a raid. There is nothing left to smith."
Have you considered fighting back yourself?
"Of course I have, ojel. Do you think I can see the wreckage of my village and not feel a fire in my gut?
But, I am no warrior. I am a smith. It is good to know who you are, even if it brings limitations."

As you leave the village in the direction of Elossi's Hut, Nuxul will appear and begin following you:

Nuxul: "I'll follow right along behind you."
Nuxul: "And we're off. Don't worry about me, I can keep up."
Nuxul: "I'll be right by your side."

Speaking with him, he will give you directions to the hut:

"We are looking for Elossi, the Sudden Gust. Her hut is northwest from the main village.
Every time I visited when trying to speak with her, she was never home. Sometimes I sneak the door open just to check, but I never see her."

When you reach Elossi's Hut:

Nuxul: "Here's Elossi's hut. She may not be home, but let's check just in case."

Nuxul will then enter the hut and you can follow him in. Nuxul will be looking around the home:

Nuxul: "It doesn't look like she's home. Let's see if we can figure out where she went."

Speak with Nuxul to see if he has an idea of where to look next:

"Hmm. Nowhere to be seen. But all her belongings look like she was just here.
You know, a less confident Argonian might start to take this personally."
Do you have any idea where she might be, then?
"Not off the top of my head, but she can't be too far. It looks like she was just preparing a meal here, so perhaps she went looking for herbs?
Let's search around. I think I know a spot."
Lead the way.

At this, Elossi will enter the hut, annoyed at having unexpected visitors:

Nuxul: "Ah! Elossi. We weren't doing anything."
Elossi, the Sudden Gust: "You bring a stranger to my home, Nuxul?"

Speaking with Nuxul before explaining yourself to Elossi. He will try to be optimistic:

"She is here. And I think we angered her. I know I suggested it, but breaking into the home of a great warrior perhaps was not my best idea.
Please, go ahead and ask for her help against Naxhosa. She has not killed you yet, so that is a good sign."

When you talk to Elossi, you explain what has been happening to the village and Satul-Sa's death. Elossi is shocked and upset by her friend's death and says she is willing to fight. But you first must retrieve her daggers she hid in the nearby ruins. Speaking with Nuxul before leaving the hut:

"Elossi can act a little shy sometimes. She does not like much attention in her direction. Usually she sticks to the shadows."

Once more, Nuxul will join you on your trip through the swamp:

Nuxul: "I'll be right by your side."
Nuxul: "I'll follow right along behind you."

Speaking with him along the way:

"So instead of agreeing to help us outright, Elossi sends us through the swamp for her daggers. She is a legendary hero. Could she just, I don't know, sneak around and get them herself?
Except—oh, I get it now. This is a test of our worth."
Yes. And one we'll pass.
"That is what I want to hear. A little confidence like that around Stonewastes and perhaps Naxhosa would not have rolled over us like a boulder.
We should hurry before Elossi changes her mind."

When you reach the Ayleid ruins:

Nuxul: "These ruins look … uninviting. Let's be careful."

Elossi's cache is next to a wall where which a Haj Mota wanders around. Once you have retrieved the daggers, you can continue:

Nuxul: "Well, a cache of daggers in the ruins. They must be Elossi's."
<Elossi will then call out from nearby.>
Elossi, the Sudden Gust: "So, you have skills. Even if you did let me sneak up on you. Let's speak."

Speaking to Nuxul before Elossi, he will hype up the weapons:

"Those are Elossi's famous twin daggers. She claims they possess all of the speed and venom of a striking viper. Deadly in her hands.
Let us get those back to her quickly."

When you speak with Elossi, she reveals she was always going to help Stonewastes, but the test was to see how skilled you were. She then points you in the direction of Meer-Tta, a cave to the southeast:

Nuxul: "I had heard that Meer-Ta retreated to a cavern for solitude and study. Let's look near there and see if we can find any clues."

Talking with Nuxul, he will tell you what he knows of Meer-Ta:

"Meer-Ta is a master of arcane arts. I have never met him, but I have heard that he can be kind of a brute to deal with.
You did an excellent job with Elossi, though. No doubt you will convince him as well."

When you find Meet-Ta's cave, the Argonian mage will be muttering to himself about runes, unaware of you.

"There is Meer-Ta. I don't think he has seen us yet. I guess you should interrupt him? Not the best introduction, it seems.
Remember, he can be prickly. So be patient. We … I … the village needs him."

Meer-Ta, the Wind is crotchety and refuses to help. But he will point you in the direction of Otumi-Ra, disparaging him all the while. After this, Nuxul will comment:

Nuxul: "So far—only half successful. Let's go find Otumi-Ra's hut."

He will try to look on the bright side:

"That did not go nearly as well as I hoped it would. Meer-Ta clearly has his own agenda at the moment.
We should find Otumi-Ra, though. If we only have the two Winds, it is still better than none."

When you get close Otumi-Ra's hut, Nuxul will go ahead of you:

Nuxul: "This is his hut. I'll go ahead and see if I can find him!"

Otumi-Ra is laying unresponsive on the ground outside his hut.

"That is Otumi-Ra, without a doubt. He … does not look good. Maybe try waking him? Or poking him hard?"

Speaking with the drunken Argonian, you only get mumbles. You can then talk to Nuxul who will get an idea on how to wake him up:

"No response? I suppose Meer-Ta was right. This is the worst I have ever seen Otumi-Ra get. Maybe this is what happens when the life of the party no longer has something to celebrate.
Let us see—wait! I have an idea on how to snap him out of it."
What are you thinking?
"A briar that grows out this way might help. The seed is inedible, and it smells … awful. Especially to Argonians.
If we get a couple of those, the smell will overwhelm him and wake him up. If anything is going to work, that will."
Sounds good. Where do we find them?
"I seem to remember a field of waking seeds grows to the east of here. Gather a handful, then come back. I will keep an eye on this hero of legends in the meantime.
I should warn you. Some creatures are attracted to the smell. Keep your scales moist."

Talking to Nuxul again before leaving to find the Wake Seeds:

"Did you find the seeds? They are small and the plants glow slightly. You can find them to the east. Just follow your nose."

After collecting the seeds and fighting off Hoarvors you can return to Nuxul and Otumi-Ra:

Nuxul: "You're back. There's … uh … no change here."

Talk to him.

"Kaoc! I can already smell them on you. I do not even need to ask.
Put them right up to Otumi-Ra's nose. Let him get a big old whiff. Hopefully that snaps him right out."
What if that doesn't work?
"The only plan I have next is gathering more seeds and shoving them right up his snout. He does not have a choice. Our village needs his help."

If you speak to him again, he will insist on waking Otumi-Ra since he's sick of smelling those seeds:

"Please, I beg of you. Do not just stand there waving those seeds around. My stomach already jumps into my throat like a bad frog stew.
Place the seed under Otumi-Ra's nose to wake him. And then get rid of them."

With the seeds, Otumi-Ra will be abruptly woken up:

"Great. He is awake. Now, please, convince him to join our cause. Someone with his strength would be invaluable."

You can then talk with him, explaining the attacks and Satul-Sa's death. Otumi-Ra will be heartbroken as he was in love with her, and is ready to fight. But first he wants to test you and asks you to follow him into his hut, Nuxul follows him in:

"I thought Otumi-Ra's hut would be a little more lively. I don't see why he brought you in here. Let us find out what he plans for us."

Speaking with Otumi-Ra, you learn he is challenging you to a drinking content. You need to drink all of his selection of Argonian spirits and stay upright. There is a specific order to drinking these, otherwise you pass out, as Nuxul demonstrates when he joins in:

Otumi-Ra, the Unrelenting Gale: "Now choose a drink and get started!"
Nuxul: "All right, I'll give this a try. For the village, right?"
Nuxul selects a drink and chugs.>
Nuxul: "I don't … I don't feel so good … hurk …."
<He heaves and then falls to the ground.>

Speaking with him during the challenge:

"My stomach … burns. But the floor … so cool …."

After you have successfully completed the drinking challenge:

"Bang … bang … bang … goes my hammer. Why, yes … I am strong …."

When you speak with Otumi-Ra, he will join your cause. Before you go back to the village, he asks you to place his banner on a nearby cliff as a challenge to Meer-Ta. Nuxul is still out off it:

"No … no … you go ahead. I am just … going to stay here …. For a bit."

Afterwards you can journey back to the village. Elossi, Otumi-Ra, Nuxul and some other volunteers will waiting on the path leading to the Stonewastes Keep where the Sharp-Eyes lurk. You can talk to Nuxul about their plan, he is still a bit drunk:

"Ugh, it is good to see you. At least, I think that is you. I could be having ale-visions. Again.
Anyway, you have done it. The Winds have reunited, ready for battle. Because you convinced them. Well, two of them at least."
What's their plan?
"Well, as Otumi-Ra carried me back to the village, we started discussing you. And how strong, courageous, and wise you are. And attractive, too. Did I mention that?"
What are you getting at?
"We hoped you might join their assault on the ruins. Help drive out Naxhosa and his dry-scaled thugs.
There needs to be a fourth Wind. That's what the legend tells us. If you join them with this, they cannot fail. Plus … I will pay you more."
I'll join them. When do we start?
"Lead the charge when you are ready, outsider. The Winds will be at your back."
Let's take care of Naxhosa.

Speaking to him after the charge:

"This is our home. We will not let someone just take it as they please."

You can then head into Stonewastes Keep along with Elossi and Otumi-Ra. While there you fight your way through Sharp-Eyes while helping the two Winds with things like freeing Argonian Villagers. Once inside the keep itself, you will encounter Meer-Ta and help him destroy the stockpile of enchanted weapons. After you have slain Warlord Naxhosa and burnt his banner, you can return to the village where they celebrate.

Talk with Nuxul to complete the quest:

"Here you stand. The stranger who drifted through the mud to save us. And to think, I assumed you were a crow come to pick our bones.
We can live in peace once again. And the legend of the Winds will continue."
Do you think the Winds will remain together?
"Who can ever guess the wind's direction? But I choose to believe so. We reminded them of their strength when they work together.
I suppose you came for the promised reward. From my claws to my tail, I say this in earnest—you deserve this."

Once you have completed the quest, you can speak with Nuxul once more to learn about his future plans:

"I do not think we will have much trouble rebuilding. Plenty of supplies in the marsh. And, of course, we have the best blacksmith who ever wallowed to craft our tools.
My spine feels electric from all this hope. Not quite used to it."
What will you do now?
"After we rebuild the village and I know we are truly safe, I may start selling my wares in other towns. Go north to dryskin lands.
I want to be like the Winds, traveling around, taking in the sights. Living a better life."

Heroes of Blackwood[edit]

Nuxul will attend the ceremony in Gideon along with the Winds if you previously helped Stonewastes. He will be slightly drunk and inexplicably holding a small frog:

"This party is exactly how I like them. Keshu the Black Fin really knows how to throw a celebration. Reminds me of the feasts that Otumi-Ra throws. We might be up until the morning frogs sing."
What will you and the village of Stonewastes do now?
"After you left, we discussed moving on. But the Winds convinced us to stay. We fought for our home—leaving would hollow out our victory.
So, the rebuilding has begun. Feel welcome to visit should the marsh breeze ever blow you in our direction."
