Speak to her before speaking to Lord Alain Diel she'll tell you:

"I can't believe we ever agreed to this. What were we thinking? Can we really be that stupid?"
What's wrong?
"I thought Lord Diel was doing good work, studying the harpies to figure out why they've become so hostile recently. Plus, it was the big break that my brother's Daggers needed.
But now I'm not so sure."
Lord Diel's not trying to end the harpy threat?/And you think Lord Diel is up to something?
"Oh, I don't know! Maybe I'm just worried. Gelvin and his crew have been gone for a long time and I can't help but imagine the worst.
At least Bumnog made it back."
So what are you going to do?
"Well, I'm not going to leave while Gelvin's still out there, if that's what you're asking.
But I swear, if anything's happened to my brother and Lord Diel is to blame, well, then his lordship is going to regret it."
The Daggers?
"That's what my brother Gelvin calls his newly formed group of mercenaries. The Daggers. From Daggerfall. They're not really that bright, but their hearts are in the right place.
Lord Diel hired them to help him gather research about the harpies."

Finish the tasks and return to camp to find Lord Diel being rebuked by Granette as he stands over four bound harpies:

Granette Feldrin: "You can't keep them like this, Lord Diel. They're in pain!"
Lord Alain Diel: "I can do what I like with them. After all, I'm the one investigating why these birdies have become so very, very angry."
Granette Feldrin: "Argh! When Gelvin gets back, he won't stand for this!"

Lord Diel suggest you speak to Granette about the whereabouts of her brother:

"Greedy, ignorant, ugly, son of a mammoth's ass! That Diel can go leap in the river."
Why is Lord Diel so angry?
"I wish I knew. The rest of the Daggers made it back, but there's been no sign of my brother. I had my doubts about getting involved with Lord Diel. I just wish I'd told Gelvin about them.
But who are you anyway? Why do you care about any of this?"
Trust me, I had no idea what I was getting into.
"Well, you helped my brother and his Daggers so far. I only hope we can continue to count on your support.
So, listen. I heard Diel's threats. His claim is ridiculous, but he has gold. Paying guards to support a false accusation is easy enough."
All I care about is the gold.
"Well, at least you're honest. Still, you've helped the Daggers so far.
So I guess I'll be honest with you. Diel's claim of theft is ridiculous, but he has enough gold to make his lies stick."

However you answer, you can ask:

What do you have in mind?
"I think I know where you can find my brother. Whether you agree with Gelvin, me, or the bastard Diel over there, we need to find Gelvin and that egg.
I don't want to see my brother get hurt."
Where can I find Gelvin?
"There's a house on an island directly west of this camp. That's where we first met with Lord Diel. I could see that Gelvin was very interested in the place.
I'll give you a head start before I tell Diel about it. Now go, find my brother."

Speaking to her again before finding her brother:

"Find my brother and get him to return that egg before he winds up getting hurt. Or worse."

Lord Diel is Exposed[edit]

Later, you'll find Gelvin and The Daggers on the beach near the cabin.

If you decided to expose Lord Diel, you'll hear Gelvin tell the others:

Gelvin Feldrin: "I'm sorry I failed you. I know you were all counting on me."

Speak to Granette before speaking to Gelvin and she'll say:

"What's my brother talking about? How did he fail us? You need to talk some sense into him!"

If you spoke to Gelvin and haven't turned in the quest:

"I think this mercenary band might just have a future, after all."

After speaking to Gelvin, she'll add:

"Thank you for helping my brother. I was worried there for a bit, but it looks like everything worked out in the end."

The Daggers Get Paid[edit]

If you decided to let The Daggers take the money, everyone will be on the docks outside Miltrin's Fishing Cabin:

"Lord Diel is a miserable piece of work. I just hope my brother knows what he's doing."

After the deal is done:

"I'm glad my brother came to his senses.
I don't care if Diel is a bastard. As long as he pays Gelvin for his work and no one gets hurt, that's all that matters to me."
