Esmada

Esmada is a Redguard bard who traveled to Murkmire find the old stories of the Argonians so she could sing about them. She found a Naga storyteller, Ereel-Jush, but they have come to a disagreement on how she is retelling the stories as she feels they are too gory for the outside audience.

Dialogue[edit]

As you approach them on the road from Dead-Water Village, you can overhear their conversation. Their dialogue can be any mix of the following:

Esmada: "You have to understand. Some of the imagery you've presented …."
Esmada: "It's simply a cultural difference. Such imagery must be presented in a particular way."

-

Ereel-Jush: "Words have always been, "Blood sprayed across their snout, and their nostrils filled with the scent of despair!" Yet you speak of rubies and courage?"
Ereel-Jush: "Your belly is too soft! "Her head cracked like an egg, blood and brains staining her foe's mace." How can you change such words?"
Ereel-Jush: "I grind my teeth in vexation. "His bones cracked beneath the might of his enemy's heavy club." These words cannot be rewritten!"

She can then be asked what is going on:

"Hail, oh traveler. What is it that you wish of me?"
What's going on here?
"For long I have searched the swamps for the tales of Murkmire's past. Unfortunately, such a topic is of little interest to most of the Argonians living here.
But, at last, my search came to a joyful close. Or so I thought."
Or so you thought?
"Ereel-Jush is one of the few traditional storytellers left in Murkmire. However, I have found his stories to be … far too plainly spoken.
His images of war are enough to make a bloodied warrior grow pale."
So his stories are too … gory?
"I have sung the ballads of warriors and battles, of carnage and death and mayhem. It is not the subjects Ereel-Jush speaks, but the crude way he speaks them.
Yet he refuses to let me change the words to be more refined."
If you want to tell Argonians tales, you should tell them in the Argonian way.
"I suppose that is true. If I'm to respect the traditions of Murkmire, I must respect its people. And that should start with agreeing to Ereel-Jush wishes.
Very well. I shall sing the words just as they are told to me."
That doesn't sound easy. Good luck.
"You have my gratitude, kind traveler. I shall do my utmost to convince him to allow me to change the words."

If you convince her to tell the tales in the Argonian way, she'll say:

Esmada : "Upon reflection, I have decided to … keep your stories as they have been told to me. If I am to spread Argonian tales, it is best to sing the words in an Argonian manner."

Speaking to her again:

"Perhaps these crude words will be a welcome change to the audiences of my homeland."

Speaking to her if you told Ereel-Jush to let her change the words:

"My gratitude, oh traveler. I thought he would never agree to my changes. Now I can present the story of Murkmire to my people, in a way all will enjoy.
And have no fear. I will always respect the heart of these stories."
