Quest Giver: Farandor
Location(s): Valeguard
Reward: Average Leveled Gold

A spinner in Valeguard wants to finally transcribe a story into written word, but is having difficulties.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Collect five samples of hoarvor blood and a chunk of Old Tusk's flesh.
  2. Talk to Farandor.
  3. Splash blood onto the animal skins.
  4. Seal the words at the fire pit.
  5. Take the book to Shandi.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Speak to Farandor, who is east of the Valeguard icon, to start the quest. He bought a piece of parchment from a trader in Belarata, who told him that if he told it his stories, they would appear on the page. He is a spinner and cannot write, but instead must invoke "the ancient rites of flesh and blood." With hoarvor blood and a piece of Old Tusk's flesh, he believes the story will write itself. Old Tusk, the first mammoth to walk Valenwood, lies perfectly preserved nearby.

First, go southwest through the Story's End to the Wilds of the Heart. Collect five samples of hoarvor blood and a chunk of Old Tusk's flesh from the Wilds of the Heart. The hoarvors are along the shallow river, close to the body of Old Tusk.

Once you've collected all the necessary supplies, return to Farandor. He tells you to enter the chamber in the great tree and "slather the blood on the skin hangings within." Then, you will seal the words into Old Tusk's flesh at the fire pit at the bottom of the tree when you've finished.

You need to splash the blood on four animal skins. The skins are in the first room, hanging close to the ceiling and emblazoned with the symbol of the Bosmer. Continue down the ramp to the fire pit on the ground level.

Use the fire pit, then enter the southern tent and talk to Shandi, the Khajiit bard pacing about inside the tent. At first, she thinks it is lunch, but she notices the words written on it and realizes it is a story. After completing the quest, she translates the writing in the mammoth meat into a book titled A Tale Forever Told, which is placed on the table near her where you can read it.

Bugs[edit]

  • While you are meant to bring the words to the fire pit below, the words disappear from around you the moment you exit the room with the hanging skin. ?

Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
