Bug?[edit]

[This question was moved from the Community Portal]

ey guys, when i was playing oblivion today, i ended up in the subquest: :"Wisdom of the ages", from the knights of the nine quest. You have to recover the Shield of the Nine in this quest as you will probably know. Getting to the point: i was in the single last room with the puzzle with the eight stone guardians. I read the walkthrough here on the uesp and it was perfectly saying how the solve it

a quote: "The final piece of the mystery is that in the ninth chest you will find a single item. If you take the item and randomly place it in another chest, it disappears... and a new item appears in the central chest.

If you do this enough times, you will notice that each of the statues has a different item that appears in front of it. You will also notice that the same eight items appear in the central chest. To solve the puzzle, you need to take the items from the central chest one by one and place them in the correct chest, i.e. "

The problem in my case was, that when i picked an item up from the large chest (i.e Rodgar's Sword) i couldnt find it back in my inventory. With the result of not be able to put the right item in the chest. If anyone recognize this problem or know a explenation/ solution for this "bug" please let me hear. Thank You in advance.

Two possibilities that come to mind at the moment:
  • Are you looking in the "Miscellaneous" section of your inventory? All of the items (even the sword or helm) are classified as miscellaneous items, so they should show up at the bottom of the last page of your inventory.
  • Any chance you have a really large number of items in your inventory? I know with containers there can be a problem where newly added items appear to not be there (Items Disappearing from Containers). I haven't previously heard of it happening with characters, but I'd guess it might be possible if you were carrying 200+ items (lots of zero-weight keys and lightweight ingredients?). If that's the case, then temporarily storing any extra stuff you're carrying into a convenient container (probably not any of the ones in that puzzle room; I'd go back to the previous room to find a container) should fix the problem.
I hope one of those ideas helps. If not, I'll try thinking of some more possibilities. --NepheleTalk 15:24, 1 June 2007 (EDT)
Nephele you were right :). Too many items in my inventory caused the problem. Like you said I emptied my inventory in containers of previous rooms and that solved the problem.
Thank you for your answer and the quick reaction !
To help others in the future with this bug I've also added the solution by the "Notes" Section of the questwalkthrough.
p.s sorry for posting on the communityportal but I didnt know yet were to place questions about a quest.
Kind Regards --Geniepert 05:44, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
For me, a new item didn't show up in the central chest if I put an item in the wrong chest. this made it impossible to complete. I made it through the whole fort on my own, and it's dissapointing to have to resort to this guide :( also, the only sign that ever lit up was the skull, until I used this guide to figure out where to put things to show other images/create new items in the central chest. — Unsigned comment by 68.50.167.100 (talk) at 22:10 on 29 July 2008
yes when i did it i grabbed the helm and it not in my invantory — Unsigned comment by 67.185.247.59 (talk) at 18:35 on October 12, 2008

A possible bug[edit]

Doing the last part of the quest, I found that if I dropped the helm of Rodgar (not in a chest), it floated in mid air (like a paintbrush). It was then impossible to pick up again, and the quest was broken, so I had to load a save. The other items didn't do this. Can anyone confirm this? Vlad the Imperial 15:34, 21 October 2007 (EDT)

Never seen it myself, but it's already on the article as a bug so I'd say that at least one other person has had that problem. --RpehTCE 02:56, 22 October 2007 (EDT)
So it is. I must have missed that! Vlad the Imperial 03:41, 22 October 2007 (EDT)

Freedom?[edit]

Does anyone knows what happens If I do not free Sir Therdet? Does he just stay in there? — Unsigned comment by 71.37.200.224 (talk) at 03:07 on 8 January 2008

That's something that's definitely worth investigating. I can't tell what happens from the scripts and I don't have a character anywhere near the right place to check. Let's see if somebody else can help! —RpehTCE 02:22, 8 January 2008 (EST)
If you don't let him go yourself he manages to escape on his own while you avert the conjurers attention from him. He then comes to the Priory thanking you and asking you if he can become a Knight of the Nine.--Willyhead 16:38, 14 January 2008 (EST)
Actually he doesn't ask anything, he just becomes a knight without asking permission (like the others do). That's propably also why he is the only knight that is essential until the end of the entire KoTN questline.--LordDagon 09:18, 2 April 2008 (EDT)

No item ever showed up at all[edit]

At the Rodgar puzzle I never found an item in the central chest at all (or any of them). I had a ton of items in my inventory, but even when I dropped them on the ground it was empty. — Unsigned comment by 71.102.163.52 (talk) at 04:47 on 6 August 2008

Happened to me too. There are no items at all in that room. — Unsigned comment by 201.236.162.100 (talk) at 20:29 on 6 September 2008
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO GET UNSTUCK!! I AM STUCK IN THE STATUE ROOM! AND I HAVE MADE ALL OF THE STATUES FACE INWARD BUT STILL NOTHING HAPPENS!! EMAIL ME PLEASE - JSMURDOC@SYR.EDU - — Unsigned comment by 128.230.200.104 (talk) on 18 March 2009
The problem might be that you've only pulled the lever once on every statue. On two of the statues, you'll need to pull it multiple times. When all statues point towards the center-spot, step on it (the symbol on the floor). Then, the lights will extinguish. SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 11:30, 12 June 2009 (EDT)

Sir Thedret doesn't appear[edit]

The last quest I did before this one is the one regarding the gauntlets. Because of this, Areldur (who's the priest in the gauntlets-quest) appeared at the priory, with the option to make him a part of the "guild". But Thedret doesn't appear! I rescued him at Bulwark, made it through the entire quest as he is supposed to be heading towards the priory. But when I've acquired the shield, gotten out of the fort, and fast-travelled to the priory, only Areldur's present! I used detect life, but there wasn't a living soul in the entire property including inside, outside, all levels and even the chapel except me, Areldur, my horse and the knights of the nine's ghosts. I've tried reloading a previous save from the beginning of Bulwark, but it doesn't help! Perhaps you have to make Areldur a part of the order before rescuing Thedret, or starting the quest? Does anyone know what could've caused this problem? Thanks! (I'm on Xbox 360)SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 09:50, 10 June 2009 (EDT)

Nevermind, problem solved. It took several days, but finally he and a few other new members (the blacksmith and two Nords) came SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 10:09, 10 June 2009 (EDT)

Extraction[edit]

I want to know how to get out lol. I got the shield and then I followed the red marker and went to this door and I couldn't find where to activate, it were do I do this? 24.222.166.85 21:26, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I guess you mean gate O in the first zone? If that's the case, use the handle to open that gate. The handle is the cyan dot on the map. Check Fort Bulwark's page for the map. Wolok gro-Barok 21:35, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

The ever-present "triangle".[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that the triangle that is seen all around the fort is the symbol of Julianos? It's depicted above his image in the stained glass in all the Great Chapels. (Also posted to the Fort Bulwark page.) Davehoekst 20:43, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Bug with Keychain 5.0 mod[edit]

There is a bug with the P1DKeychain v5.00 mod and OBSE v20 (OBSE by itself has no problem). I also have the unofficial patches installed. After picking up the shield, the game will slow down such that it is unplayable and unsavable (about 1 frame every 3 seconds). The game will eventually crash and according to Task Manager it is constantly using up more RAM until it crashes. — Unsigned comment by 76.208.174.8 (talk) at 23:56 on 25 September 2011

Hey, in the fort, i can't get past the first gate. I've turned the handle and i've read walkthroughs on UESP also but it's supposed to open! It's the gate just left of the corner in the room where you turn the handle. Help please! — Unsigned comment by 83.227.95.90 (talk) at 13:38 on 29 November 2011

Who is Rodgar?[edit]

And why is his equipment the puzzle? Anything in the CS that explains this? Was it supposed to be one of the original knights?

Rodgar's Equipment[edit]

Rodgar's Equipment has no set order that it goes in. When I did the quest the items were in a completely different order than shown on this page. --CaptainDumac (talk) 03:12, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
