Some of you may be thinking why I made this as a non-journal quest. The reason is because I was looking at some of the other non-journal quests and noticed that this peculiarity was fairly similar to the forgotten chests of pale pass mission wich was already included as a non-journal quest, so I thought, "Ah well I may as well create a page for this peculiarity too" and so made the page. P.S this is the first page I have made on this website!--Willyhead 14:46, 3 June 2007 (EDT)

Nice job on the page (especially for your first page)! I've added some wiki details (like the quest header) and some information that you can only figure out by looking at the construction set, but hopefully you can still recognize the page. As for making it a non-journal quest, you might be interested in the suggestion I made at Oblivion Talk:Fort Coldcorn a while back ;) --NepheleTalk 16:51, 3 June 2007 (EDT)

Leveled Item Generation[edit]

When exactly is the dagger generated (and thus determines the level of weapon obtained): when you discover Fort Coldcorn; acquire the Key/Note; or when you open the hidden chest? One of my earlier characters found the Fort early on in their life, but finally got around to opening the hidden chest much later on. The prize gained for this high-level character? An unenchanted Iron Dagger. —Dark Spark 22:51, 10 January 2008 (EST)

I had a similar problem to dark spark, I was level 19 at the time when I found the chest at coldcorn, I then took the note and keyfrom the chest and traveled to the chest with the dagger, but the dagger was only an unenchanted steel dagger.— Unsigned comment by 122.106.37.3 (talk) on 26. Would like to say that this worked as planned for me - my tertiary character's at level 4 (near to 5) and received a standard Silver Dagger. FuzzyPlushroom 20:48, 4 February 2009 (EST)
I think it's safe to say that once you step onto the property and the script in the screen corner reads "You found fort Coldcorn" the chest becomes set and thus your level determines it's worth. I went there at level 2, came back at 12, and I got a steel dagger. In another game, I went at level 20, found the chest immediately, and claimed the daedric Dagger of Storms.— Unsigned comment by 24.233.128.66 (talk) at 21:56 on 25 September 2009
When I completed this quest at level 11, I received a steel dagger, instead of the expected elven dagger. Therefore I think it's safe to say the article isn't a 100% right at the moment. It seems that the type of dagger is set when you find Fort Coldcorn, but I'll add a VN-tag for now. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 08:48, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Did the quest at level 11. Had never been to Fort Coldcorn before. Got an unenchanted iron dagger. Feel very ripped off. --24.196.25.8 16:00, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Just did the quest at level 27 and received a plain Steel Dagger. — Unsigned comment by u173.64.199.20 (talk) at 00:53 on 26 October 2009
Level 28. Unenchanted Iron Dagger. ComaDivine 04:25, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
This quest does seem broken. I first visited Fort Coldcorn and the hidden chest at level 34 and found an unenchanted Iron Dagger as well. Only mod is UOP. 128.187.0.164 04:45, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

() Well I have the chest up on the CS, and the levelled list is actually a set of 6 other levelled lists.3 are set at level 1, 1 at 3,1 at 6 at 1 at 9. The three at level 1 are three copies of this list:LL0NPCWeaponDaggerLvl100 whhich has these:

Level Dagger
1 Iron
2 Steel
4 Silver
6 Dwarven
9 Elven
12 Glass
16 Ebony
20 Daedric

The level 3,6 and 9 lists are the same, this list LL0NPCWeapon0MagicDaggerLvl100 which gives you these:

Level Base Dagger Possible Enchantments
3 Iron Drain Fatigue,Fire,Frost,Shock
4 Steel Fire,Frost,Shock,Drain Intelligence
6 Silver Drain/Damage/Absorb Magicka,Dispel
8 Dwarven Fire,Frost,Shock,Drain Health, Disintegrate Weapon,Damage Intelligence
11 Elven Fire,Frost,Shock,Drain Magicka, Disintegrate Weapon,Damage Intelligence
14 Glass Fire,Frost,Shock,Disintegrate Weapon,Absorb Intelligence, Thieve's Dagger*[sic]
18 Ebony Fire,Frost,Shock,Disintegrate Weapon
22 Daedric Fire,Frost,Shock,Disintegrate Weapon
  • The Thieve's Dagger[sic] has an enchantment of Absorb Acrobatics,Athletics,Security and Sneak 5 pts for 15 seconds.

Hope that helps Volthawk 09:45, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Guess what, discovered location at level 23 and found the chest at level 23 and I only got glass. The best for my character would have been daedric. I got another "Theives Dagger" (I have 6 now).--Corevette789 16:29, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Hopefully solving all this (*crosses fingers*): static containers are generated when you first enter the cell (it may even include nearby cells...I'm not 100% sure on that, I've only tested with interiors before). Therefore, the treasure you gain will depend on your level at that time. Cells are fairly large and there's a lot of other locations nearby. Even if it's only when you enter the cell and not nearby cells, all it takes it a slight deviation from Glademist Cave, Lindai, Fort Empire, Yellow Tick Cave, or maybe even the Oblivion Gate just north of Fort Empire. If you were at any of these places, there's a fairly good chance you managed to enter this cell and fill the chest with loot based on your level at the time. Robin HoodTalk 06:56, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Sorry to drag this back to life, but I realised that my error was to ride with Martin and Jauffre from Weynon Priory to Cloud Ruler early in the game, so I was passing the general area at a low level...and coming back much later only to be disappointed. I always fast-travel now. ComaDivine 09:54, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Just found the locked chest with my level 26 character, but got an enchanted iron dagger instead of the daedric one you'd expect for a character of that level. FokkerTISM (talk) 18:04, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Did you previously enter the cell at a lower level and spawn the chest then? — Wolfborn(Howl) 22:23, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Cant open the chest[edit]

I cant open the chest for some reason. Ive found the sword and noted that it points to the NE buthe chest isnt interactable. Is this a bug? — Unsigned comment by 58.170.96.212 (talk) on 21 October 2009

You did remember to pick up the Key of Hidden Wealth, right? --Krusty 15:24, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes i did but couldnt get the chest to do anything i solved the problem by fast traveling away and back again.

L6 and received the Dagger of Depletion[edit]

According to the above noted chart, the dagger should have been a Dwarven dagger with a chance of enchantment, but I received the Dagger of Depletion, a Silver Weapon. 67.193.109.219 17:15, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

So, You were level 8? If you were level 6 or 7 you would've gotten the silver.--Arch-Mage Matt 17:19, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
