NPCs Getting Killed[edit]

I've run this quest a dozen times, trying to save the NPCs, and each time Kantav Cheynoslin and Avrus Adas are killed. The last time I ran it I arrived at 2:00 a.m. and the chapel was empty except for Carodus Oholin. After I got the relics, the room suddenly had 4 NPCs plus Carodus, and the same two died. I think that those two NPCs are intended to die (maybe they wake up and come upstairs?).

Anyway, the suggestion to come late at night is not a solution. Maybe the note should be corrected? — Unsigned comment by Widdershins (talkcontribs)

I've rewritten both the relevant part of the detailed walkthrough and the notes to (hopefully) clarify the situation. The scripting of the battle is set up to immediately make the three chapel personnel appear, no matter where they may have been beforehand, and Carodus is always in the chapel. I'm not sure who your fifth NPC would have been, though. Nobody is scripted to die during this fight (unlike several of the other Auroran attacks), so I'm guessing the same two die each time just because they're the weakest. But in theory it should be possible to save them.
I think the suggestion to come late at night should still be included in the notes, however, because it does minimize the risk of other townspeople also getting caught in the fight. --NepheleTalk 19:53, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for clarifying! -- Widdershins 22:29, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

Question[edit]

HELP! Question: i cant equip the boots of crusader, it keeps unequipping it from me not letting me use them.. dont know what to do can anyone help? — Unsigned comment by 203.171.197.81 (talk)

Please post question on an article's talk page, rather than in the article itself.
The likely reason why the Boots of the Crusader will not equip (or any other Relic) is because your Infamy is too high. Only with an Infamy of 0 or 1 can you equip the Boots. Check your character's statistics to see its Infamy. If it is too high you will need to do the Pilgrimage again before you can equip the Boots. --Timenn < talk > 08:52, 16 January 2008 (EST)
It sounds to me like you've gained some infamy between starting the KotN quests and this one. You'll need to redo the pilgrimage around the wayshrines to remove that before you can wear the boots. Check your infamy on your character stats page; if it's 2 or more, you can't wear the crusader's relics. –RpehTCE 08:54, 16 January 2008 (EST)

Infamy[edit]

i redid the pilgrimage and it didnt remove my infamy. do i have to redo it all to remove 1 point or does it all go away? 24.111.209.63 13:27, 19 June 2009 (EDT)

You should have to redo it all to remove all infamy. I am not sure if this is a glitch or not. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 18:19, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Can't equip my boots or the Crusader[edit]

Hi,

I can't equip my boots cause i have 70 Infamy and my Fame is 80. I;ve allready did the Pilgrimage but if I talk to that guy outside the chapel, I don't have a quest, Pilgrimage. And if I pray at the wayshrine it says: Penance the god or something. So I can't continue my quest now. Could anyone please help me :)?

thanks in advanced— Unsigned comment by 83.119.201.31 (talk) at 17:35 on 26 November 2009

What I gather from your story is that you want to finish the Path of Righteous but you can't because you're unable to equip the boots. In order to solve that, you'll have to visit and pray at each different wayshrine again. (So Mara, Zenithar, Julianos etc.) That will clear you of your infamy and should grant you the option to wear the boots. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 17:51, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
As Wolok said you need to vist each divine's wayshrines to clear your infamy or you can use a long ranged telekinesis spell if you are skilled enough in mysticism.--S'drassa 20:02, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Notes[edit]

I've added some extra information to the notes section. Feel free to add an comments on it here. — Unsigned comment by 80.225.15.248 (talk) at 16:50 on 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Can anyone confirm this?[edit]

  • The presence of extra NPC's can make this battle problematic since acciddently hitting the 4 standard NPCs during battle does not result in a bounty, while hitting extra NPCs during the battle does result in a bounty.

I moved this from the article. I thought that during a battle with creatures, hitting a friendly NPC 3 times would always result in a bounty? --Mptrj 18:10, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

I can only add detail to my originol statment and say that i ran the battle twice. On both occashions i accidently hit someone just once during the battle. The first time was DEFINTLY somone in a green dress, (which later looking around proved had to be the countess). The second time it was defintly one of the preists. The first time i got a bounty, the second i did not. Also to clarify i did not mean to imply that you cannot get a bounty for delibretly attacking the preists multipule times, merely that normal rules apply and you won't autmaticlly get one for hitting them no matter what. My addittions where merely meant to point out that the standard no bounty conditions that apply in these types of battls do not apply to all the NPC's present, but based on my one expiriance semed to be limited soley to the opossibble extra's.
I' also curious, why did you remove my comments regarding the possibble upsides of the presence of certian NPC's? Such information is decidedly useful to anyone having problems with this battle, especially those doing this quest at higher difficulties with a fairly high level charachter where the combined effects could produce a decidedly difficult battle. — Unsigned comment by 80.225.84.49 (talk) at 15:23 on 4 January 2010

Owned items[edit]

When I killed one of the Aurorans I grabbed one of their axes but the hand was red and everyone started yelling THIEF! when I grabbed it. Apparently the weapons are owned (unless this was a glitch). By who? I was allowed to take an axe off a dead Auroran that didn't disappear with no problems. Baron Praxis 18:30, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Unusual thing to happen. No certain explanation, I recon it was a one off glitch. --Manic 18:35, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Minor bug in quest stage messages[edit]

It seems, that before displaying stage 90 message, game keeps track only of how many times you have returned from the void. I tried few times (3, maybe 4) without success before I found out, that maybe I have to wear one of other crusader relics to reach the Mace. I put the boots on and went straight to pedestal, where I did take the Mace. A message from stage 100 popped up and I got transfered back to Tamriel, where... message from stage 90 popped up. So I came up to conclusion, that probably game does not check if you actually have Mace in your inventory before displaying message from stage 90.

Of course this is only minor, if any, bug. But maybe it is worth noting here or in article page. I would be glad if someone with deeper understanding of game mechanics could prove it right or wrong. --93.154.155.105 10:53, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

You cannot equip the boots while wearing the cowl, even if your infamy is 0.[edit]

I tried equipping the boots, and it said I had to do the pilgrimage. I read the discussions on this article, and not bothering to check my infamy, I came to the conclusion that I would just have to do the pilgrimage again. So I went back to the first wayshrine, and checked my infamy right before activating it. My infamy was 0. I realized I was wearing the Cowl of Nocturnal when I tried equipping the boots, so I tried without it and it works perfectly. This may seem obvious to most, but it confused me for a few minutes, so maybe other people will run into this same problem. (184.155.233.8 02:54, 12 October 2011 (UTC))

I dont think its worth mentioning as it is, as you said, obvious. Lets wait and see if anyone else has another opinion, though.--Stranger 02:59, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Not Able to Wear Boots[edit]

I've combined a couple of different reports on not being able to wear the boots into two bullet points. I think they're accurate, but it's been a while since I've played through KotN, so please let me know if there's anything that needs to be tweaked. Robin Hoodtalk 18:55, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Well the information about when you are unable to wear the boots seems pretty accurate to me. If I come across any minor details about it further while playing the game, I'll let you know. Helenaannevalentine 19:07, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

The boots of the crusader don´t appear in the inventory.[edit]

I did the quest and got the boots, but they don´t appear in the inventory and I can´t equip them. So I can´t finish the quest by crossing the path to get the mace. I tried to add thorugh the console, but it doesn´t appear either. My infamy is 0. Help, Thank you! — Unsigned comment by 85.242.108.38 (talk) at 22:03 on 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Barrier around the platform[edit]

I fortified my acrobatic so I'm reaching the platform. However, there seems to be an invisible wall atop it that prevents me from landing on it, instead leading me to collide with it mid-air and, after stopping briefly on the ledge, fall down.

Can anyone confirm? Piotr chylarecki (talk) 17:11, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
