Missing House Upgrades[edit]

I have recently purchased the shack for sale outside the imperial city and went to purchase the 5 upgrades from sergius verus. He only had 3, how do i get the remaining 2, kitchen and wall paintings?

M 71.59.83.148 18:17, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

As stated in the article, they can be stolen from certain Imperial City citizens, although they also should be available for sale. --SerCenKing Talk 18:33, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Are all of the containers inside the shack safe?[edit]

I know that some containers, like the dresser at the foot of the Arch-Mage's bed, are not safe, but what about the various containers in the IC shack? 67.193.109.219 04:14, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I think all of the containers are safe. Surely all of the chests are safe.--Arch-Mage Matt 04:29, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Definitely - all containers in the shack are safe. More generally, all containers in all purchased houses are safe - it's just the unpurchased ones of which you need to be careful. See the Houses page for more information. rpeh •TCE 11:18, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Stealing the House Mods[edit]

So I've set about stealing the house mods after buying the Dining Room mod add-on from the one three brothers guy. I checked both Tertius Favonius's house and Stantus Varrid's house thoroughly. Any help with this, please? - WeHeartKatamari 22:00, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Both of the pages you just linked to explained exactly where in the houses the upgrades are. Are you saying they aren't in the places the articles suggest they should be? --GKtalk2me 22:07, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Disregard. I've been searching and I realized it must've been the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. I disabled it and Bob became my uncle. It's all good now. Thanks for the quick reply, though. - WeHeartKatamari 22:34, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Item Storage Glitch[edit]

For some reason the chest next to the shelf on the back wall is no longer taking all of the items I put in. I can take stuff out but when not everything I put in shows up in the box. I'm on the 360 and I've never had this problem before. Does anyone know if this glitch is caused by an update? (Gadianzero 21:34, 2 August 2010 (UTC))

I suppose you could call it a glitch. The container will only show a limited number of items; when that number is exceeded some items won't show on the list though they're still in the container. --GKtalk2me 21:43, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Is there a way to get those items back? (Gadianzero 23:10, 2 August 2010 (UTC))
You haven't lost them. It's a well-known problem - see this. rpeh •TCE 23:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Its been a while since I've played so I'm a bit rusty. (Gadianzero 01:57, 3 August 2010 (UTC))

Stealing House Upgrades broken with Unofficial Oblivion Patch[edit]

The Unofficial Oblivion Patch seems to removes some (possibly all?) of the stealable house upgrades (see above, and I just experienced and tested it myself). Shouldn't this be noted in the article? It is immensely confusing that the unofficial patch removes these items, which is an important reason to note the removal in the article. You can see the patch note about the removal on the UOP's IC layout changes page, third item under Temple District. I would add a note myself but I'm new here and could be missing something... HarshLanguage 06:47, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Did some more searching, and it does seem that ALL of the house ugprades "receipts" were removed by the UOP. The patch note I mentioned above lists 5 of them that were removed, and then the last note under "Talos Plaza" mentions 2 more. The Shack for Sale article lists 6, but may be missing a second receipt in Luronk gro-Glurzog's house. In any event, they're all removed per the UOP's notes and anyone who relies on the info in Shack for Sale while running the patch will be thoroughly confused. HarshLanguage 06:56, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
I went ahead and added a note to the article about this issue. HarshLanguage 02:30, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Good catch, thanks for the addition. Robin Hoodtalk 04:04, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
The "stealable" receipts were removed because it was considered a bug that the house upgrades be made available to the player without paying for them. Kivan had determined that the receipts themselves were supposed to be there to look like others in the city had purchased upgrades for their own houses, but the scripts to give the player the upgrades were not intended to remain attached and the devs never added non-scripted versions of them. The one in Luronk gro-Glurzog's house was removed later by the UOPS since it had been missed before. Arthmoor 09:03, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
The other bug is that it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Real world scenario: you break into someone's house and find a receipt for a piece of furniture on the floor. You pick it up. As you do so, the piece of furniture magically appears in your house as if you bought it and put it there. Er... what!?!? The designer intended the receipts to be decorative without realizing this side effect of picking them up. Other similar instances have been seen in the game, such as the Waterfront Tax Receipt left in the player's guildmaster quarters as a souvenir, that still was a quest item with an attached script. Kivan 12:56, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
I always saw the stealable receipts as the game's way of (mechanically) representing stealing furnishings from richer people's houses for your own use. Your mileage varies, obviously.70.36.142.90 10:13, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
It would make sense that the stealable furnishings were intended, as they are tremendously expensive to buy considering what you get. So maybe this is a case of fixing what wasn't broken.Caralampio (talk) 03:12, 21 November 2014 (GMT)

Safe Containers[edit]

So the Storage Area containers are still safe for storage (i.e. non-respawning) if stolen, right? --82.31.164.172 22:01, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes. Stealing the receipts or buying them has the exact same effect. Legoless 23:06, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Location of furnishings[edit]

I can not find the furnishings when I break into the orc's house listed in the article for the Imperial City shack. Could anyone give me the exact location of the furnishings? Obliviongamer 19:17, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

It's in his basement on a box somewhere I think, otherwise try Marinus' basement, I know it's in A basement. Note that OOO removes these upgrades, just wanted to mention because I've been using it now for a long time (why I can't exactly tell you where, since it's been so long) ~ Dwarfmp 07:57, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Furniture location resetting[edit]

Upon first buying the shack (+ extras) I moved a few items around, specifically the bin, broom and jug (which was on the floor originally). However every now and again (I can't see any real consistency in the timing), when I enter the shack, the items revert to their original location. Is this a known phenomenom? I didn't see any mention in minor glitches list, although it is very minor.

I don't know if this can happen in other houses, but I did notice that in Dunbarrow Cove's Captain quarters the lockpicks/cutlass on the desk reverted to their original position (as opposed to the nice neat layout I made!).

Anyone else experienced this? I know it's a pretty trivial problem, but I'm getting paranoid about leaving my own items (i.e. not originally from the house) on the floor/tables in case their disappear when this reset happens. Muzher 18:02, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

I've had this happen to the house in Anvil. It looks like it just moves the items that came with the house back to where they came from - none of my trophies have vanished yet. I have noticed that it looks like someone trashed the place if I move an item out of the way and put something else there. I guess when it puts the original item back, it sends whatever else is occupying the space flying (which caused a chain reaction in my case - the carefully laid-out armor I'd put on the dresser was strewn all over the bedroom because of the scales and shirt that came with the house). So it's possible that something could glitch through a wall or something, I guess, but it doesn't seem like it outright removes anything like it would in a respawning chest.
That's just my experience, though, for what it's worth. I haven't looked at any of the scripts or anything, so I wouldn't take it as definite Truth. Maybe someone who's looked more at the technical side of things will weigh in. MuddlingThrough 03:02, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, at least I now know it's safe to leave things outside of containers. As a side note, is the initial positioning of items in homes fixed? I.e. will everyone have had the same layout as me when first buying the shack? (Specifially bin next to bed, jug strewn on floor). Muzher 04:59, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
I noticed that the 3 tomatoes on the table keep reappearing for some reason. --HunterZ (talk) 21:38, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Look at the door[edit]

Hey,I was just wondering if there was anything "special" about the hole above the door in the shack?(Triangle hole above the door)If there's anything in it I would like to know about it.The Elder Scrolls Addict 23:34, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey! I've wondered about it too. Thus far, it seems like a nonfunctional attic space. I've used "TCL" to explore around the house and saw no special secrets hidden there. However, should you get a mod that replaces the default shack, and use "TCL" while inside the new shack, you will find the old one shunted off to the side somewhere. I've only just now thought about seeing if the shack pre-upgrades is also shunted aside and replaced by the one with the upgrades. The first time I saw the extra house, I looted it, and that ruined my new house somehow. So don't loot it! But anyway, I hope that helps! Leo Star Dragon 1 07:04, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
That's not necessarily true of all such mods. It's possible to completely remove the old shack with a mod, but apparently whoever created the one you're using opted not to do so. Likewise for your warning about looting it - the mod creator probably never thought anyone would try to do that, but again, not true of all mods. Anyhow, we don't cover most mod content on this site. Partly because there's so many of them, and partly because quite a lot of them are not very good or have critical flaws, as evidenced by your experience with this one. --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:21, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
I can confirm from the Construction Set that there is absolutely nothing special about that space, nor is there anything in it. It looks to be just a case of making the interior and exterior match. Robin Hoodtalk 20:44, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
