Scroll Costs[edit]

The formula for scroll costs seems to be:

Enchantment Cost / 2 + Base Cost

Since the base cost for all scrolls except for a few special ones seems to be 0, this doesn't factor in most of the time. I'm going to fill in the rest of the numbers based on this assumption, but leave them in parentheses until confirmed. --TheRealLurlock 13:45, 3 July 2006 (EDT)

Document of Purile Banter[edit]

This scroll actually costs 6600 on Xbox however i leave it to be confirmed on all systems before editing the page --Lavadragon 09:04, 24 August 2007 (EDT)

All prices listed on the site are the base-prices for items. Merchants will always mark up the prices based on both your and their Mercantile skills. Thus, the numbers will always be higher in-game for most people. (But there's no way of telling how much higher, since it depends on skills - this is why we use base prices on the site.) The only way you'll be able to buy/sell items at their base price is by becoming a Master of Mercantile. --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:31, 24 August 2007 (EDT)
There was an unneeded [sic] listed next to "Banter," which is actually spelled correctly. I took the liberty of removing it. -Anonymous — Unsigned comment by 208.95.51.136 (talk) on 9 March 2010
Actually, the sic tag was correct. It's for 'Purile' not Banter. --SerCenKing Talk 19:53, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Just in case anyone wants to know, it should be "Puerile," meaning "childish."BigMcLargehuge 02:23, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
And that's why we have mouseover text that asks people not to change "Purile" to "Puerile". rpeh •TCE 08:44, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Scrolls?[edit]

Is there anywhere that can be guaranteed that I can get a Bound Cuiriass (sp?) scroll? Or am I forced to have to get to level 16 first?--Darth NANAME 18:16, 18 January 2008 (EST)

Sorry, no. The scroll is only in two leveled lists so you'll need to wait. –RpehTCE 02:51, 19 January 2008 (EST)

0 Uses?[edit]

On the page it shows that some of the spells have 0 uses does that mean they cant be used or arent availible in-game. What exactly does it mean?--75.95.117.108 20:58, 23 November 2008 (EST)

It's generally a good idea if you read the article before asking questions that have already been answered. --NepheleTalk 21:16, 23 November 2008 (EST)

I did but i didnt quite understand it at first i had to reread a couple of times but i understand it now...--75.95.117.108 22:14, 23 November 2008 (EST)

Weakness/Resistance to Magicka vs Document of Purile Banter[edit]

I have found the Weakness and Resistance to Magicka will affect the strength of the document when it is used even on the latest patches. I can easily increase my maximum health by 1K with the document using Weakness stacking. And as I use the scroll glitch on the document to duplicate it, I am becoming a god (Crazy health, mana regeneration and fatigue :D!)

Could we...[edit]

Can we say how many points it does, for open spells and the like i mean. you can have open for 90 points and have very hard. MikeTalk 15:01, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Dremora & Scrolls[edit]

Should it be added to the article that just about every dremora carries about 2 scrolls, if you kill them before they use them? I find sneaking around in Oblivion to be a much better method of farming scrolls than hoping one will drop at the end of a conjurer dungeon. --Tenraah 23:29, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Glitch Confirmation[edit]

I have already attempted to 'arm' a scroll, drop it, then use it, but my spell tab went back to the previous spell I had selected. However, I can confirm that arming the scroll then putting it in a container still allows use of the scroll once without it being in one's inventory. Was the glitch mentioned fixed in an update or is there a difference between console & PC versions? If not, should that be changed in this article & also added to the glitches section? --Arpaleggia 00:47, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

confirmed on 360 with no patches or updates; quite a fun way to use the Stormrider Scroll before i could afford to make and cast it at the university. and to make scores of people in metropolitan areas die. when you've 100%ed the game there really is nothing more interesting to do than kill anyone not marked essential. Scroll of Summon Skeleton[edit]

A scroll of summon skeleton can be found next to a chest on the second floor of Fort Ontus. (72.39.123.186 17:28, 23 February 2011 (UTC) Arch-Angel)

And? Is there a reason you are mentioning this? --AKB Talk 21:00, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, but that would be mentioned on the Fort Ontus page, not here. -- Jplatinum16 21:15, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
This is already mentioned on that article though...
  • The following scrolls can be found near the entrance: 1 Summon Skeleton scroll
Taken from the Fort Ontus article. --AKB Talk 21:25, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Yep, you're right. I was saying that generally info like that would appear on their respective place page. -- Jplatinum16 21:35, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Oh..well when a person wants to find a summon skeleton scroll I thought they searched for it here, without any locations on the actual scroll page it might be difficult to come across it on some random Fort Page is all. Sorry. (72.39.123.186 17:28, 23 February 2011 (UTC) Arch-Angel)

True, but adding every single location would overload the page. And they're mostly random anyway. -- Jplatinum16 00:20, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Well yeah but the ones that arent random would be the ones noted here, and I just thought, seeings that no one had previous submitted even one single location of a non random scroll that I would provide one. (72.39.123.186 17:28, 23 February 2011 (UTC) Arch-Angel)

Perhaps a page for the non-random locations of each scroll?--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 00:32, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

That would be cool, does such a page exist? (72.39.123.186 17:28, 23 February 2011 (UTC) Arch-Angel)

Let's Name a Spell.[edit]

i noticed while playing that the two most powerful offensive scrolls in oblivion, the Stormrider Scroll and Annal of the Fire Nexus, have no frost damage counterpart. two part topic:

  • can anyone on PC look at the construction set and see if it ever did exist?
  • i'm currently making these two scrolls into usable spells at an altar. any suggestions for names?

Drumkommandr 04:58, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Special Scrolls... more than one?[edit]

I'm the kind of OCD player that hates doing irreversible things, which is also why I rarely overwrite my saves. I'm doing Namira's quest, and if I buy the two special scrolls "Document of Purile Banter" and "Chronicle of Sacrifice" would they restock? Stouf761 04:47, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

no but you can use the scroll or arrow duplication cheats to duplicate them (Eddie the head 06:04, 23 July 2011 (UTC))

Cure Paralysis and Weakness to Disease[edit]

Should we add notes for these scrolls since they are, to my understanding, completely useless? You cannot cast a spell while paralyzed, and NPCs are unaffected by disease. Most other noteworthy scrolls have a mention, so is there something I have missed? Crayolamanic (talk) 01:23, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Spell Effectiveness[edit]

Does Spell Effectiveness affect scrolls? If it does, should be noted. If it does not, it probably should be noted as well for sake of completeness. 91.152.110.160 15:29, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
