Glarther DIDN'T Die![edit]

I told the guard about Glarther's plans, he ran off with his sword and I followed, but he suddenly stopped, sheathed his sword and walked away. And now whenever I talk to someone they say he turned up dead!

Hey, that's happened to me too! I don't why either. Leo Star Dragon 1 06:54, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

question about the List of Death[edit]

Is it possible to get the List of Death (i.e. have Glarthir ask you to assassinate one or more of the "conspirators") without telling Glarthir that they were spying on him? 174.252.36.231 15:09, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

No, I think it doesn't even appear in his inventory until you've told him someone is spying on him. eshetalk 15:32, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi! If you have your Subtitles activated, they will indicate for you that Glarthir is actually "scribbling" that note while he talks to you about the task! If you have your volume settings just right, you also can actually hear the scribbling when it occurs! That's why he's looking down at his hands while he's talking to you about the task. "Glarthir's Paranoia, The Dark Brotherhood, & You![edit]

Hello! Hey, does anyone here just happen to know, if at one time "Paranoia" was meant to be a quest of some type for, "The Dark Brotherhood" or not? I'm just wondering, by the way. Also, it seems to me, that if you had your PC join that faction, they should frown on you taking an assassination quest as a free agent without permission from them. Or, that they would do the opposite of that option, and be proud of you for showing some individual initiative on your own. Which leads to me asking my question. This quest seems like it might have once been an intended audition quest or method of getting them to notice you and thus get the invite to join. Sort of like how "A Brotherhood Betrayed" seems like an audition quest for getting invited to join the, "Order of the Virtuous Blood", and how "Two Sides of the Coin" seems like a set-up for joining the, "Thieves Guild". (Is it just me, or does "Go Fish" seem like it is just begging you to kill that guy, so that you get a visit from someone to join their faction? I know I felt that way at first, many years ago, because I'd meet him right after hearing talk about how the DB gets their new recruits.) Oh, well, those thoughts aside, does anyone here just happen to know of mods for the "Paranoia" quest that affect the outcome in a more positive sense? Advance thanks for any help and/or answers! P.S.: Oh yeah! I was just thinking that it is too bad that the DB doesn't give you any kudos, should you decide to play the quest the way Glarthir seems to want you to do, by killing those people on the list. Even if it is done on the side like, "The Renegade Shadowscale". Leo Star Dragon 1 07:14, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

No money in waste basket[edit]

I told Glarthir all three suspects were following him, then I turned in his List of Death to the guards. After a guard killed him, I took his key and went to his house but there was no money in his waste basket. I'm playing on PS3. I've done this quest before with another character and the money was there, but I don't remember what the sequence of events was. Could this be a bug? Brzlnboi (talk) 17:09, 1 August 2014 (GMT)

This happened to me just now. I told him all three were spying, told Dion and watched him kill Glarthir. Took Glarthir's key and went inside his house. No money in wastebasket. I'm on a PC.Lazuria (talk) 05:09, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
I have a hunch that the gold appears as a scripted event--it does not exist as is according to the CS. Someone who's more skilled than I in reading scripts should investigate, hopefully. — Unsigned comment by 76.93.91.225 (talk) at 15:38 on 16 July 2023 (UTC)
The basket in question is located in Glarthir's house, to the right of the entrance from outside, along the south wall, next to a shelf containing plates and crockery. The basket can be found in the CS as EditorID TestGlarthirGoldBasket, BaseID 0001DC49, RefID 0001DC4A. Note that this basket is not a regular basket, it is a container, meaning it must be activated just like a chest. Looking into the basket physically will reveal nothing; it will simply appear to be an empty basket. Activating the basket should reveal the contents: 800 Gold and 1 Inkwell. This basket does not have a script attached to it and it is not a persistent reference, meaning no script can reference or operate on this basket. The gold should always be there regardless of the status of the Paranoia quest if the basket is activated properly. Hopefully this explains the confusion surrounding this item. Don't forget to take the inkwell. :P — Wolfborn(Howl) 22:23, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Pacifist method[edit]

I'm attempting a pacifist run through Oblivion, and was able to successfully complete this quest without killing anything.

Obviously, if you choose not to kill the targets (or get Glarthir to kill them), you can complete the quest that way. Alternately, if you do want to kill the targets, you can use Frenzy spells to get them to attack you, then let nearby people/guards take them out. Alynnidalar (talk) 21:07, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
