Glitch Abuse/Explotation

Is it possible that exploiting glitches (item dupe, zero-weight items) can cause problems in the coding (or something like that) causing problems? I've recently figured out the Item Dupe and Zero-Weight glitches, and I think abusing them causes sounds to be cut off. I've recently been in the wilderness of the game and sounds like spells and drawing/withdrawing my sword have been cut off early and I think it may be caused by me abusing the glitches.

Any help or explination here would be nice. (I'm a PS3 user, if it helps.) 64.12.117.202 10:56, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

I do not believe it has anything to do with the glitches, my friend plays the Game of the Year addition on his PS3 (xbox 360's are way better) and sometimes the noises mess up on his too, and he dosn't do the glitches. Occasionally it happens on my 360 too but not very often. — Unsigned comment by 161.57.229.103 (talk) on 7. May 2008
I know that on the Xbox 360 when stuff like this happens it's because of fragmented data appearing on the HDD. On the 360 you can remedy this by clearing the cache by holding A when the Xbox 360 Logo flashes. I don't know if this can be done on PS3 though. — Unsigned comment by 24.141.107.140 (talk) on 2. Custom Class Page?

I was thinking that, perhaps, we could make a page with custom classes. Each class would need to be approved by a set of users (I'm not sure if that's possible) to prevent duplicates from spawning. We could use a chart just like the one here. I think we need more thought put into this before it becomes a reality, but I think it would be kind of cool to have.
--Ocylith 17:44, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

There used to be such a page, but it very quickly became an out-of-control mess. You are still free to create your own page listing your favourite classes, as long as you do it in your own user space (e.g. User:Ocylith/Classes). --Gaebrial 06:34, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, I figured as much. But I was thinking that it could be a "locked" page, allowing only certain users to edit it. The talk page would be used to suggest new additions, etc. I think that we could keep it clean and organized if we did it right. Just a suggestion, anyway.
--Ocylith 17:55, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
It seems a nice idea, but there doesn't seem to be that much point in creating such a page. The reason the custom class option is there is so that players can roll their own class depending on their preferences. Making a custom class page again sort of takes the point out of the custom class option.--Willyhead/t 17:59, 25 April 2008 (EDT)

An installation error?

I am trying to install oblivin on a laptop (Windows XP) and it seems to install corectly but when I try to play it It says an error has acured and the program shuts down. any Idea why this is happening? — Unsigned comment by The Divine Crusader (talkcontribs) on 24. April 2008

Most laptops do not have a video chipset capable of running Oblivion (in particular, the Intel integrated video chipsets that come standard with most laptops are not good enough). This can result in exactly the problem that you're describing. See System Requirements for details about the game's hardware requirements. --NepheleTalk 17:42, 26 April 2008 (EDT)
My HP Pavilion dv6000 has enough video card memory to produce medium quality but it lakes the RAM needed to run smoothly, even with ultra low settings on. Which is why im sticking to xbox until i can get a pimped out PC. SxKxUxD 15:32, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Cyrodiil Construction Charter and Documents Division of the Imperial City Archives?

In the deed to Frostcrag Spire it says, and I quote, "...The bearer may amend this document to rename the manor by submitting the proper forms and payments to the Cyrodiil Construction Charter and by filing duplicate forms with the Documents Division of the Imperial City Archives." Am I right in thinking this means you can change the name of the place and if so where are these two locations to do it at. 161.57.229.103 01:07, 7 May 2008 (EDT)xBlink N Die

See Oblivion talk:Frostcrag Spire (place)#How to rename Frostcrag Spire?. Although the basic answer is, no. --NepheleTalk 01:21, 7 May 2008 (EDT)

Rings

I have like five magic rings, the first of which that I received was the Black Band...well, I recently discovered it missing. ANyone ever hear of a glitch regarding that? Or is there a certain number of magic rings one can have at any given time? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! — Unsigned comment by Germano (talkcontribs) on 21. May 2008

Rings don't typically disappear, no. If you put it in a container, you may have got the Items Disappearing from Containers glitch. Otherwise you've probably just lost it. –RpehTCE 03:19, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

Skills in Oblivion on 360

(Moved from UESPWiki:Community_Portal)

What skills that you boost beyond 100 gives you any added benfit? I know some don't, yet I still don't know which ones are worth trying to get over 100. I'm about to get the Oghma Infinium and I want to use it appropiately. — Unsigned comment by 71.197.172.106 (talk) on 31. May 2008

Reopening Pittsburgh Pirate discussion from Archive 1

In the Dunbarrow Cove mod, one of the pirates who joins your crew is an Argonian named "Yinz'r". "Yinzer" is a slang term for a native of Pittsburgh. ("Yinz" is a Pittsburghese word similar to "y'all" or "youse".) So that would make Yinz'r a Pittsburgh Pirate. If he can hit for power, they may sign him to play first base. KWRussell 00:26, 22 December 2006 (EST)

None of his dialogue seems to point towards him being from Pittsburgh. This could be an egg, but needs evidence pointing towards it not being coincidental, i.e. a developer who hates/is from Pittsburgh. Rip-Saw 18:08, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

I wanted to reopen this discussion because Rip-Saw makes a weak argument against the OP's assertion. In the archived argument, OP links to a site called Pittsburghese.com which makes the connection between "yinzer" and Pittsburgh. If that isnt enough proof, then just google the term "yinzer" and you will get pages and pages of Pittsburgh-related material. That, and the fact that Yinz'r is a Pirate and Pittsburgh has a sports team called the "Pirates" is plenty of proof that this qualifies as an Easter Egg. Rip-Saw should do some homework before he takes the step of trashing someone else publicly.169.145.3.12 16:02, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Personally, I agree that you've got a good case for it. But don't take the rejection of it personally, as what constitutes an Easter Egg is often a judgement call where one editor might agree and another one won't. You might be better off bringing this up on the Easter Eggs talk page, however, and seeing what people there have to say about it. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 14:29, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Xbox 360 problem: Audio

I've been looking everywhere for the solution to this problem...

I start Oblivion and everything is perfect. All audio is normal. However, once everything is loaded I find that nothing but the music plays. Gone are the sounds of footsteps and any other effect (weapons, spells, doors, etc.).

How might I go about fixing this? — Unsigned comment by 76.123.157.0 (talk) on 15. June 2008

The first thing you should do is make sure you have all the latest patches. Beyond that, I'm not sure... --GuildKnightTalk2me 23:51, 14 June 2008 (EDT)
Are you using surround sound? If so, check that all the channels are properly opened and working. It's possible that the music plays out of one or two speakers while everything else plays out of others, and if 2 or 3 of them aren't working, that could cause your problem. — Unsigned comment by 24.141.107.140 (talk) on 2. A Dark Exile

I am a rookie Obliion Player playing on the PS3, I am at level 18, 186 days have passed, and i need help getting back into the dark exile.. I was doing the Accidents happen quest and somehow when a friend was playing he got me exiled from the brotherhood. He doesn't know what he did. but a few days later i came across a person laying dead in a town wearing a suit similar to mine from the dark brother hood. Anyways my problem is when i go to sleep, nothing happens, i just wake up, or level up when need be.. When i set A Dark Exile as my active quest a green marker appears between nenyond trail and nisin cave, i go there and there is nothing, at least that i can notice, i am wondering if i have to go into the nisin cave or the nenyond trail to get to this marker...?

I am hoping that because i have the Accidents Happen Quest and Dark Exile there is not a glitch that prevents me from completing them..

Any help is good help.. — Unsigned comment by OblivionMang (talkcontribs) on 16. June 2008

Question

Ok so I have a save game with a huge amount of items in the vault at Frostcrag Spire. I recently made a new game to make a vampire character. My question is, if I do the format thing on my XBOX 360 will I lose everything in Frostcrag? I remember a few days ago I didn't have the patches on my game so I could dupe items. I recently installed the patches so I could do Mehrunes Razor and now I want to reformat and remove all patches so I can dupe on my vampire character and such. If I format and remove patches, will it remove Frostcrag Spire and my huge item collection on my main? 69.159.59.21 22:53, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

Whoops, forgot to login. Yes, I'm back. Sorry about the absence. I've been busy. So yeah, my question is will I lose Frostcrag? I know I'll lose Mehrune's Razor, Battlehorn, etc because I can't access them when unpatched, but I'm always able to go to Frostcrag. I simply fear for the safety of my FS vault. I've got it all organized. Mages staffs in one chest, and I've even got a few chests set aside for Mithril, Elven, Dwarven, Mithril, Dremora, Glass, Ebony, Silver and Orcish armour/weapons. I've got a complete set of Descendent Sigil Stones (from the BrumaTestHouse glitch) as well as 3 Ascendent Sigil Stones (gotten the legal way) and a whole load of Varla/Welkynd stones and soul gems in another chest. It's quite an astounding collection and I'd hate to lose it all. I've even got 2 full sets of perma bound armour, one enchanted to fortify acrobatics and one to fortify strength (for treasure hunting) ImmortalKaine 23:08, 22 June 2008 (EDT)
ive been increaseing my mercentile but what i want to know is if you can own your own store i no i can invest but i want to no if i can buy store(jkh 16:02, 5 August 2008 (EDT))
No, you can't own your own store. However once you reach 100 mercantile, every purchase and sale is done at 100% of item value, making gold a lot less important.--AlphamanT 16:14, 5 August 2008 (EDT)
Reaching master mercantile is quite a feat though, your best bet is to buy every worthless item in the shop and sell it all back and repeat.

Xbox glitch (I think)

not so easy to explain, but i'll try to anyway. everyone remembers the candle glitch with the large yellow sign with the exclamation mark on it?, it seems to be happening again, but not candles this time. i have found three areas of which it seems to take place: 1: In the elven gardens district sewer (for the main quest part including the "sponsor" with baurus 2: On the way to "A strange door" from bravil 3: most plains of oblivion

the first one is the worst possible as when it occours, mostly in parts where rooms meet passages and bridges, the floor dissapears so you have to jump over the gap, which baurus cannot do, so you fall through the floor to water and may not be able to get back up again. I have installed shivering isles, and it only occoured after instalation any know why? — Unsigned comment by Alpha-125 (talkcontribs) on 6. July 2008

It's caused by the game being unable to load the necessary textures, which probably means that your disc is scratched. Try cleaning it and see what happens. –RpehTCE 11:26, 6 July 2008 (EDT)
thanks for the advice, fingers crossed it will work. if so then i am completley idiotic for not thinking of it, thanks.

Theres anouther glich thing when im in the nateral caverns in the begning the goblin staff somtimes falls through the floor after i kill every one(Jkh1 10:24, 4 August 2008 (EDT))
I have experienced this also, kill the shaman first and the focus on the others.
If it still falls pull the pull rope to open up the rat cage to kill the one goblin on the lower level, for some reason this seems to prevent the glitch from happening. Good luck.

ITS AT IT AGAIN! this time its confusing. Anyone done the sheogorath daedric quest? it wont for me, the shrine has turned into a giant, monsterous, evil yellow sign, which cannot be activated to continue, so no oghma infinium. I've tried everything. also, anyone, is it possible to return to the palace via the old way? i cant go through, it stops dead one fifth of the way one the loading screen. plus, same with the pilgrimage quest, fine praying, but when you need to find the helm, same thing happens. cleaning the disc is not working, any ideas? can Rpeh pull me outta this one? (80.192.133.64 15:51, 4 August 2008 (EDT))

I would suggest reloading from an earlier save, restarting a new game, making sure it is fully patched (connect to xbox live and make sure both your xbox and the game are patched), and if nothing else works buy a new copy. Not the optimal solution maybe, but it might be necessary. Then again, maybe it's just that your save got corrupted somehow, and starting a new game might do the trick.--AlphamanT 15:57, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

was just wondering if there was an article concerning the weather for oblivion? I know there is obviously snow around the Bruma and mountain areas, but apart from that area is the weather totally random? Does the weather change according to which month it is in game time? Dorian Post-Patch Xbox 360

It's not mentioned in the article but some say that the post-patch paralyze glitch only works on PS3 and not Xbox 360. Personally He's fled every time for me when I paralyze him. If this is only a PS3 friendly glitch then i think it should be refelcted in the article. SxKxUxD 14:35, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

no actually it does work on the 360 i just did it today. the trick it that before you kill him, hit him once then he will follow you run upstairs (unlock the doors first of course) once you are upstairs open the other "wooden door" Dorian should be chasing you still once you have him in the room that the wooden door took you into, stand in front of it so he cant open it and swing away.

Disappearing World!

Uh ok. Just tried to start a new game yesterday (360), and something very strange happened. The emperor died, just like normal, and i went into the Imperial City sewers, and right as I stepped in I fell through the world and got stuck. I tried it again and it happened several more times. After while I noticed that there was a large yellow caution sign floating where I had fallen through. Then I just restarted the whole process, and then the stairs where the emperor and his blades walk down in the beginning disappeared, causing them to fall through the world (actually funny to watch). Once again, I see a big yellow caution symbol where the jail stairs should be. I'm assuming getting a new Oblivion disk is the only remedy to this problem (although mine looks pristine), but I'd like to get some input. Have any of you heard of this kind of thing happening? — Unsigned comment by Dark Brother92 (talkcontribs) on 4 August 2008

I've never seen it myself but as the caution sign means that the game can't load its graphics, I'd guess that your disk could be scratched. Try cleaning it and playing again. –RpehTCE 06:57, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

Playing as a Nord under the sign of the Mage, I recently installed the shivering isles and played through all the main story line there. At some point during that time (obviously didnt notice straight away) my bonus of 50pts Magicka from the birthsign had completely vanished. Nord Major Skill: light or heavy armor?

Hi~ Great site! I've learned a ton and just wanted to say thanks and ask two questions- >the site specifies[1] Nord major skill heavy armor, but in the game it says light armor. Which is it? >IS there a search function for this board? I can't find it . . . thanks again! [User:Finger51|Finger51]] 16:35, 22 August 2008 (EDT)

Nords get a +10 skill bonus in Heavy Armor, not Light Armor, so the article is correct. Why exactly do you think that in the game it says light armor? Note that the skill bonuses are just that: additions to your character's initial values for that skill. It doesn't mean that a Nord must choose Heavy Armor as a major skill. Major skills are determined by your class, not your race. If you chose a class that includes Light Armor as a major skill (e.g., Barbarian) then you could have a Nord character with Light Armor as a major skill -- but you would still get the +10 racial skill bonus to Heavy Armor.
As for a search function, try looking at the top left of the page where it says "Search". Or follow this link directly to the search page. --NepheleTalk 14:05, 25 August 2008 (EDT)

What would everyone think about a statement at the top of this article? Something like:

This is an article about the video game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion". For the planes of existence, see the Oblivion or Lore articles on the subject.

Just a thought while in the meantime we discuss whether we want to use the equivalents of "Oblivion:Oblivion," "Oblivion:Main Page," "Oblivion:Contents," "Oblivion:TES V: Oblivion," "Oblivion:The Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion," etc. (By the way, I can't seem to find that discussion... can someone give me a link?) --GuildKnightTalk2me 18:18, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

You can type into the search box, for example, Oblivion:InsertPageTitleHere. Of course, the namespace doesn't have to be Oblivion, but since you're asking on the Oblivion page.. Anyways, then, if the page doesn't exist, you can click the link that says "create this page". It should be red. And then you go from there. Don't forget though, that it isn't your page. (xbox360) I've currently completed the Thieves Guild quest (Arrows of Extrication) and now i have moved onto the next quest. I fenced the required amount (800) actually I fenced over 1200. Now I am waiting for Amusei to summoned me. The only problem is that my quests have not been updated and it does not say I have fenced my 800 yet. so my question is, what is taking so long for my quest to update? Has this happened to anyone else? — Unsigned comment by 72.90.232.9 (talk) on 17. October 2008

It happened to me for the final quest on an account I used to have. I am not aware of how to fix it. Waiting for Amusei to summon you? It is quicker if you stay in the Imperial City. --Oblivion nerd 15:56, 26 November 2008 (EST)

gray cowl glitch?

Hey there... the gray cowl seems to have disappeared from my inventory. I know that I didn't "drop" it, as I wasn't doing anything that I needed it for. I svaed the game, turned it off then came back the next day for some cave crawling... and no cowl. Is there a code to put it back into my inventory? I have the pc version. Here type this EXACTLY: additem 00022E81 1 — Unsigned comment by 68.193.148.233 (talk) on 17 November 2008
When using the console, you have to specify the target. So you'd have to open the console and type "player.additem 00022E81 1" without the quotation marks. --Lady Azura 08:31, 28 November 2008 (EST)

Time you can play

How long, if you take good care of it, will this game last (hours playing time), before it stops working and freezes a lot? --Oblivion nerd 15:54, 26 November 2008 (EST)
