Woah[edit]

I completed the quest where I rescued the young Argonian girl from Hackdirt, but I came away feeling there were some unresolved mysteries about that spooky little town. Now, weeks later and many levels stronger, I went back to investigate, and I STILL get that feeling... but a feeling is all I get. Am I missing something obvious? I explored the caverns, perused that baffling book in the church, and tried charming the brains out of the few people who would talk to me, all to no avail. Maybe I simply have to wait for another Hackdirt-oriented quest to avail itself to me. Does anyone have some answers? — Unsigned comment by 216.209.120.47 (talk)

There's nothing more to it. The only information on the town is what's already on the page. –RpehTCE 02:45, 10 January 2008 (EST)
Try killing everyone,It's based off a Mystery,so If these people were taking Hostages,Would you let them live? And, it's probably a spooked feeling, like if you go in your room Pinder and the innkeeper follow you in...--Puddle 23:30, 29 February 2008 (EST)

Facial Features[edit]

Why do the Hackdirtians have very odd facial features and eyes? It's actually terrifying to me.-Aldage 01:37, 16 June 2008 (EDT)

Well, that's just the way they are portrayed. They have lead a harsh life, and they spend most of their time underground. I guess the devs wanted the village to feel "scary". Vesna 13:29, 16 June 2008 (EDT)
In the Lovecraft story the town is based off the people were mating with Deep Ones, which are fish people, as such almost all the occupants were hybrids and had large eyes and strange features. I'm assuming the designers had that in mind. --71.230.225.210 00:28, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
I noticed that the unnamed people in hackdirt (worshippers) in the caverns drop mort flesh. Hmmm...
Of course they also don't like "outsiders" So incest might be an issue in their appearance.
Where did you get they were "Fish People"?--Corevette789 02:58, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
A Bit old, I know, but I should interceed here. The entire village is based of The book "A Shadow Over Insmouth" Or something similar, since I cant spell the name correctly. the Deep ones in the book, were fishlike people, who lived underwater, And the people of Hackdirt bear he same features as the inhabitants of that town, namely large eyes. Reading the book should tell you a bit more 184.77.194.254 21:25, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes... which is why that fact is already noted on the article. rpeh •TCE 22:22, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

New "Places" template[edit]

Is this article now in compliance with the new places template? All the maps on this page (and if you click to enlarge them, on the enlargement page) have letters that are supposed to indicate specific places, things. However, there is no key that says "A = Door to whatever" etc. The only key is the generic one that shows the dots and gates (icons) but has no letters. Why is that missing here. This page is not flagged for cleanup/update, so does the new template not have detail as to what those lettered places are anymore? Trish101 22:18, 9 April 2009 (EDT)

Getting attacked in the Inn?[edit]

Err.. sorry I'm super new at this so I dont know how to put in date or name tags. I went to sleep in the Inn in Hackdirt. I woke up an hour later to "Hackdirt Bandit" beating me to death with a club. I don't know if this happens every time you go there or if it was just some kind of crazy coincidence that happened to me. Maybe someone who's less of a noob than me could inform me and maybe include it in the article if its of relevance?

Thanks! — Unsigned comment by 68.193.195.244 (talk) at 04:56 on 21 July 2009 (UTC)

First, sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). Second, it is involved in the quest A Shadow Over Hackdirt. But the link will contain spoilers. --Elliot(T-C) 04:56, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Lots of Money, bug?[edit]

On a previous play of Oblivion when I visited Hackdirt for the first time, a fight somehow broke out with the villagers. Upon looting their bodies, several of them had over 10k in gold. — Unsigned comment by 74.205.150.88 (talk) at 07:02 on 4 June 2010

This seems like a one-off glitch, as I have spent LOTS of time in Hackdirt (while gathering info for the NPC pages) and I never experienced any trouble between the residents. As for the infinite money glitch (they all only carries a small amount of gold), you will have to be a bit more specific and maybe see if you can recreate the events in some way; Did you start the A Shadow over Hackdirt quest or were you just visiting before the quest? Most importantly, and this is the classic question: do you have any mods installed? --Krusty 09:56, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Removed bug[edit]

I'm going to move the new bug to the talk page, here: Bugs

A weird bug that may happen is that if you go into the chapel and take the book and then you go outside and fast travel to any Large city like :Bravil,Imperial city,Anvil , ect ,Natch Pinder will appear near you at that location , and will wander around till you kill him , save or drop the book take it and go to Hack-dirt {This bug is unknown at the moment , it will casually happen with the following consoles:On Xbox

I thought someone should confirm it first before it goes onto the page. I can try to verify it later tonight on both the xbox and Pc is no one beats me to it. --Pwnageincarnate 21:17, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Pwnageincarnate

It sounds a bit fishy, and I couldn't make it happen. I tested it after the quest was completed, though - maybe before? --Krusty 22:01, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Followed by Hackdirters[edit]

I used THE POWER OF THE CONSOLE on my PC to add a "boss" to Hackdirt. I did this with all the AI turned off. Even with "tdetect" toggled, I could not fast travel away from Hackdirt. It kept giving me the "enemies nearby" message. When I turned the AI back on I was in the IC. I walked out across the bridge and through Weye and right there was one of the Brothers braining a deer with his club. The Hackdirters seem to have a very long detection range.

Oh, and my "boss" disappeared. I think the cavers reset, either when Dar-Ma gets captured or maybe it just resets on the three day cycle (?). SirNotAppearing 16:36, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

There isn't really a detection range so to speak. The Detection AI can only work for so far, and if the player leaves the bounds while detected, they cannot be undetected until back within range. That is why some animals seem to follow you forever down the roads. --DKong27 Talk Cont 15:38, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Post-Quest Attacks Above Ground[edit]

I finished the quest and have actually been trying to make a mod regarding Hackdirt. One problem I have is that whenever I enter the town, Brethren come out of the trap doors and attack me; I have set every brethren I could find in the CS to disable and they still spawn. Is there a script I haven't seen that I need to disable in order to make them stop? ~Mephaniel 99.98.241.25 20:40, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
