Misc. Questions[edit]

Is there any simple way to overcome the problem of maxing out the disposition raise and yet the NPC refusing to tell me what I need? -FMan 19:46, 31 March 2006 (EST)

Charm your target if possible. Otherwise, bribing will still increase it by 1 point.
It isn't always a flat 2 points per rank gained. I was playing a new character through some of the fighter guild quests over the weekend. The first promotion in the guild only gave me 1 fame point, while the second promotion gave 2. I think that's due to an odd total of fame gained for all promotions. The fighers guild has more ranks than the thieves guild or dark brotherhood. I also think the variation in awards for closing gates is similar. It's probably a 1.3 or 1.5 per gate, but you can't get fractional fame awards, so they give you 1 here and 2 there. Quillan (Talk) 10:00, 1 May 2006 (EDT)

Oblivion Gates[edit]

I am not sure the Oblivion Gate information is accurate. From what I can work out, I have been getting just one Fame point for every gate closed, no matter where. However I'm going to pay more attention next session - if others can also double check that would be great. istara 17:50, 8 May 2006 (GMT+4)

I've checked it, and I am definitely getting +1 Fame point for every Oblivion gate I close. So I will amend the main table. istara 01:o0, 18 May 2006 (GMT+4)
You know that if you press the Activate button fast enough while highlighting the sigil stones; you can get multiple stones and multiple points of fame... just though it wasa something worth mentioning... 22:43, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Infamy[edit]

What about Infamy?

I think that infamy is an important aspect of this section. It would be worth the time to research a little more info on it. Many people want to do things like the thieves guild but are afraid it will tarnish their pristine fame. -Fly_0_boy 20:43, April 6, 2006 (PST)

Infamy is worth reporting on, yes, but the Fame page is NOT the appropriate place to do so. Infamy has its own page. --98.214.211.253 09:22, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Arena mentioned twice[edit]

We have Imperial City: Arena mentioned for points, then the Imperial City Arena mentioned. Keep it tidy!

Fame Points not updating inside of Fame[edit]

So, on this page (Fame) we include the page Fame Points. However for some reason it isn't sucking in the latest version of Fame Points. As of now it is 4 or 5 edits old. I don't understand why, or how to fix it. I cleared out my browser cache, and tried with two diffrent computers so I don't think it is user error (but hey could be) --Lorenz03Tx 1:32, July 26 (GMT-6)

No error on your side, it's just the page has to be forced to refresh, which I just did. See Oblivion Talk:Attributes#Personality Affects for more info (same question just cropped up there) --Nephele 14:51, 26 July 2006 (EDT)
Ahh purge. Nice. Thanks. --Lorenz03Tx

Fame Gained From Mods[edit]

Is there any source on this Wiki that has the fame/infamy totals for the Official Mods and various other popular ones? Grub 21:49, 21 April 2007 (EDT)

I just added the fame totals for KotN, which is the only official mod to modify your fame.Jag 22:23, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Frostcrag Spire Glitch for XBOX 360[edit]

Each Sigil Stone is randomly and rapidly added one at a time into your inventory. Fame is also increased for each Sigil Stone in your inventory. Fame will increase rapily into the hundreds or even thousands. Those wishing to play an evil character should use extreme caution. RoadDog772 14:41, 2 July 2007 (EDT) RoadDog772

The same thing happened to me At first i didnt notice but then i looked at Fame and it was 1600 --The True Knight of Cyrodil 23:49, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
How is this done? Do you have any proof? I wanna know... c(: lol

Fingers of the Mountain[edit]

It says that you can gain either 1 or 2 fame based on who you give the book to, but who do you give it to for 1 point and who do you give it to for 2 points? — Unsigned comment by Marshmello (talkcontribs)

The details are all provided on the quest page, Oblivion:Fingers of the Mountain#Return the Book. --NepheleTalk 21:51, 22 August 2007 (EDT)

Guards paying off fines[edit]

"Guards will see you as a friend if your Fame is 100 points greater than your Infamy. For example, if your Infamy is 45, you must have 145 Fame. When you commit a crime, if the bounty is less than 1000, the guards will pay the bounty for you and let you walk away as if nothing happened."

Simply having 100 more fame points than infamy isn't necessarily enough to get guards to pay off your fines. You may still need to use speechcraft/charm spells to raise their disposition to 91+(which is what is required), which can be done without fame points provided you have high personality, speechcraft stats. --Sundaroct131088 07:42, 28 August 2007 (EDT)

I just revamped the section pretty substantially, including deleting that comment completely. Not only is the effect tied to disposition rather than fame, but the rest of the facts are wrong. The fame-related disposition modifier is based on fame alone, not the difference between fame and infamy. I can't even guess where the 100 fame points came from, because the fame boost maxes out at 67 fame. --NepheleTalk 00:40, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

Fame Points[edit]

The following discussion was moved from Oblivion Talk:Fame Points when the Fame Points and Fame pages were merged. --NepheleTalk 21:09, 11 November 2007 (EST)

I was trying to list all Fame (and Infamy) points that can be earned in quests, but soon I've understood that the list would be too long. So I suggest integrating Fame points in quest trailers (or Infamy for TG and DB quests), with possible commentaries in it. Or full list is needed anyway?

Also there are some exceptions like

  • "Through A Nightmare, Darkly" - you can earn 1 Fame or 1 Infamy point (if you kill Henantier in Dreamworld)
  • "Allies for Bruma" - 1 Fame point for each aid and 1 for each Sigil Stone

and some more.

Any non-quest Sigil stone also gives a Fame point.— Unsigned comment by Den (talkcontribs)

I agree completely, and had been thinking the same thing myself. The fame/infamy points should really be included on the individual quest pages, especially details such as how your choices can affect the fame points; right now fame/infamy is hardly ever mentioned on the quest pages.
Right now this page is almost so incomplete that it's useless, and as you say adding all the quests here would just give a really long table listing almost every quest and stating "you earn 1 point for finishing the quest". I think it would be more useful to start this page with a general statement like "most quests except the TG and DB quests earn you one fame point, exceptions are listed below". Then limit this page to the unusual cases, and the cases that aren't clearly related to a quest (gaining ranks, admission to arcane U, closing random gates, etc). And perhaps also include some summaries, such as how many fame points you earn in total for doing each of the "good" quest lines. --Nephele 01:31, 2 November 2006 (EST)
Well, here is all that I can find in CS. Any additoins are welcome :)
For MQ I have decided to create a table because there is no general order of gaining points. Also among misc quests there are both "good" and "neutral" so here I've listed only quests which give any Fame. Maybe another format will be better.--Den 05:13, 16 November 2006 (EST)

Doomstones[edit]

I've moved this note here from the main page:

{there are also several doomstones that will increase your fame by 1 point) 1 is near the white stallion lodge

I know of no doomstones that increase your fame. The stone near the White Stallion Lodge is the Shezarr heaven stone. That has a requirement that your renown (fame+infamy) is at least 60, but it does nothing to add your fame. --Nephele 16:20, 3 February 2007 (EST)

Fame/Infamy Glitch[edit]

So I used to commit mass crimes and murders while wearing the Grey Cowl and it seems now for some odd reason, my fame/infamy is exactly the same while I'm wearing it and while I'm not wearing it. Meaning that when I'm not wearing it my Fame is like 3 and Infamy 125… any way to fix this? I've tried reloading and all that stuff. — Unsigned comment by 71.129.80.89 (talk)

The same thing just happened to me, my infamy went from zero to 101 and then everyone was angry with me :) Only thing you can do is the pilgrimage to all of the wayshrines, which will bring your infamy back down to zero. Fame has to come back the old fashioned way. 71.77.216.4 18:40, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Henantier?[edit]

How do you get infamy from killing Henantier? As far as I remember, Henantier is essential until you enter the Dreamworld and if you kill him there, then you die... Am I wrong about this or...?Drake3555 22:50, 3 June 2008 (EDT)

Did you kill him after the quest was finished, maybe? Or what about before? (Don't know if he's accessible before, or sleeping right from the start.) --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 00:27, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
See the lengthy discussion here. Basically, it's an option that appears in the quest stages so it was originally added to pages (such as this one), but in fact it's inaccessible, so now it's being deleted. --NepheleTalk 16:30, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

The Collector - Fame[edit]

Just wondering, when do you get the Fame point for this quest? I assume it's when you've collected all 10 statues and it finishes properly, it's just because the quest is so long it's a lot of work to get 1 Fame point. — Unsigned comment by 87.127.79.8 (talk) on 19 April 2009

Yes, you have to have handed all ten over to Umbacano before you get the fame point. –RpehTCE 07:23, 20 April 2009 (EDT)

Fighters Guild Problem[edit]

Ok so my guy is a mass murderer (lvl-110) and has an infamy of 1085, 10067679 items stolen, 736 assults, 787 murders, and 87 fame and the guys in the fighters guild say ive been in "nasty buisness" and im trying to train combat skills so am i royaly screwed to join up or would it take me a long time to join?Assasin n00b154 00:37, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

If you are playing on the pc, you can use the console to increase your fame. Otherwise, the Knights of the Nine has a quest which resets your infamy to zero. I'm curious though; how did you get your character's level so high? -- Jplatinum16 00:48, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
If you are playing on a console then you have to do the KotN one. But as for your level, I'm assuming you have been to jail a lot for your character? Stouf761 03:51, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
I did the knights of the nine (my mom told me to :P)im in the guild thanks guys anyways but i got my guy that high by doing bed glitch it is simple: on account that can level up get him to sleep when the sleeping starts load another file the file you loaded i done proporly(bad spelling) the atribute screen should pop up saying you went up a level. i got msn do you can message me (ethan.10@live.ca)--206.75.224.214 15:53, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Maybe I'm addition-deficient, but...[edit]

...when I total the Fame from all miscellaneous quests, I get 24, not 26. Dr. Memory 01:22, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

I got the same amount when I counted also, and I did a quick check through the individual quest pages. I've changed it to 24. -- Jplatinum16 01:48, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

202 Fame[edit]

I read somewhere that the max fame was 200 and I have 202? I did tons of quests, shut 60 oblivion gates and have done KOTN... is 202 the max or is there more? — Unsigned comment by Jmartinez323 (talkcontribs) at 16:25 on 14 May 2011

You probably saw it on the Oblivion:100% Completion article. That page doesn't count DLCs or the Shivering Isles, which is where you likely got the extras. You might have also used the bug that lets you take multiple sigil stones from one gate. Legoless 16:42, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

No, I didn't use any bugs on purpose. Prehaps one is ineffect though, I've yet to get into the isle. I did do kotn. Anyone know what the max fame is with DLC?(kotn, SI, TD etc etc)

After some work in the construction set and using my own "max stats" save, I worked it out to 206 fame (207 if you have the UOP Namira statue fix). This, of course, includes the 8 fame points from KotN. Here's what I found (all fame gained assumes best possible outcome for a quest):

Main Quest - it is important to break the main quest up into parts, since some of the fame gains come from scripts, some from quest updates. Also there are some bugs (features?) in the fame awarded by the main quest in MQ08, MQ09 and MQ15. The "modpcfame" command is placed on stage 0 for these quests and thus, never earned by the player (stage 0's are dummy stages used to quickstart quests for testing purposes).

MQ fame for Quest Updates -
1 from MQ02 - Deliver the Amulet
1 from MS48 - Breaking the Siege of Kvatch
1 from MS49 - The Battle for Castle Kvatch
1 from MQ04 - Weynon Priory
1 from MQ05 - The Path of Dawn
1 from MQ06 - Dagon Shrine
2 from MS13 - The Wayward Knight
1 from MQ07 - Spies
0 from MQ08 - Blood of the Daedra (improperly handled quest update, should be 1)
0 from MQ09 - Blood of the Divines (improperly handled quest update, should be 2)
1 from MQ10 - Bruma Gate (there is also 1 fame point in an improperly handled quest update)
7 from MQ11 - Allies for Bruma (1 point awarded by a quest update when each city leader agrees to help)
2 from MQ12 - Miscarcand
1 from MQ13 - Defense of Bruma
2 from MQ14 - Great Gate
0 from MQ15 - Paradise (improperly handled quest update, should be 2)
Subtotal - 22

MQ fame from Scripts -
56 from activating the sigil stone in random Oblivion worlds (50 random gates and 6 static gates link to random worlds, this includes Fort Sutch gate)
1 from activating sigil stone in Kvatch Oblivion world
1 from activating Sigil Stone in Bruma Oblivion World
Sidenote - the Sigil Stones in the Cheydinhal and Great Gate Oblivion worlds do not award fame points.
6 fame points are awarded when the gates outside Anvil, Bravil, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Leyawiin and Skingrad are destroyed (this is not the same script that runs when the Sigil Stone inside the gate is activated, this one runs as soon as you get back to Tamriel)
3 from MQ16 - Light the Dragonfires (script runs after battle between Mehrunes and Akatosh finishes)
Subtotal - 67

So you can earn up to 89 fame points in the course of the main quest if you do everything and close every gate.

31 from the Arena (21 from Owyn's post-battle greetings, 10 when you choose your Raiment of Valor).

16 from Fighter's Guild (all handled in quest updates).

23 from the Mages Guild (Assumes you gave Teekeeus the book first in MG05Fingers. 22 from quest updates, 1 from the dialogue response Teekeus has when you give him the book first (not in MG05A, Finger of the Mountain part two)).

14 from Daedric quests (all fame points are gained upon the last sentence in the statue's quest conclusion speeches. This number is changed to 15 if you have the Unofficial Oblivion Patch installed since it fixes Namira's statue scripting).

Side Quests -
1 from MS02 - Where Spirits have Lease
1 from MS04 - The Sirens Deception
1 from MS05 - Through a Nightmare, Darkly
1 from MS06 - The Forlorn Watchman
1 from MS08 - Caught in the Hunt
1 from MS09 - Two Sides of the Coin
1 from MS10 - Corruption and Conscience
1 from MS11 - A Brotherhood Betrayed
2 from MS12 - Lifting the Vale
1 from MS14 - A Brush with Death
1 from MS16 - Separated at Birth
1 from MS16B - Sins of the Father
1 from MS21 - The Collector
1 from MS23 - Order of the Virtuous Blood
1 from MS26 - Imperial Corruption (see interesting notes below)
1 from MS37 - Tears of the Savior
1 from MS38 - Paranoia (giving the death list to a guard)
1 from MS39 - Seeking Your Roots
1 from MS43 - Whom Gods Annoy
1 from MS45 - A Shadow Over Hackdirt (my fave)
1 from MS46 - Goblin Trouble
1 from MS47 - Zero Visibility
1 from MS51 - Canvas the Castle
1 from MS91 - Mazoga the Orc (this one is awarded in a dialogue with Marius Caro at the conclusion of the quest)
Subtotal: 25

8 from KotN (all unmissable quest updates)

Grand Total - 89 + 31 + 16 + 23 + 14 + 25 + 8 = 206

Interesting Notes - The Origin of the Grey Prince has an improperly handled fame update. When you return to Agronak with the journal, his dialogue calls a command to player.modav fame 1. While this looks like it might work, it doesn't properly update your journal. In fact, if you open up the console after completing this quest and type player.getav fame, you'll see that it is now one point higher than what is shown in your journal.

Interesting Note 2 - There is an improperly handled fame point for killing Audens Avidus after he escapes from jail in Imperial Corruption. The script reads that, upon his death, there should be a check if the player killed him or something else killed him. If the player killed him, update fame by one point and set the quest stage to 120. If the player was not what killed him, just update the quest to stage 119. Well, the check for whether or not the player killed him is done using the isActionRef player command. This command only works inside OnActivate blocks, not OnDeath blocks of scripting. The correct form would have been to use an OnDeath Player block which checks if the player is the object that started the block of scripting. Subsequently, it is impossible to get this fame point or get to stage 120 of the quest without using the console.

Final Note - If you have UOP installed, the max Fame you can get (including KotN) increases from 206 to 207, as the patch fixes the scripting for Namira's statue which was the only statue that didn't give you fame for completion of associated Daedra quest. Jag 18:13, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Updated the page to reflect what I've found Jag 22:31, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
