Etymology[edit]

The notes say that Bruma comes from the Spanish word for haze, but that in itself comes from the Latin word 'Bruma' which means midwinter. — Unsigned comment by 67.60.187.161 (talk) on 30 August 2008

Yes, thanks for pointing it out. Now fixed. –RpehTCE 15:07, 30 August 2008 (EDT)

Jearl's House[edit]

Whenever I went into Jearl's House It wasn't considered tresspassing and rather than everything inside saying "steal _____" it simply said "Take _____". Noting I took from there is showing up as stolen and it allowed me to sleep in the bed! Why is that or did it happen by freak chance? MeBetter87 22:48, 28 March 2009 (EDT)

Jearl is a member of the Mythic Dawn, you need to get into her house for the main quest and obtain an item etc. — Unsigned comment by Nacht (talkcontribs) at 17:25 on 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Character Statue[edit]

Just for clarity, which gate is the one near where the statue of the player-character is erected after the Great Gate quest? The map clearly shows two gates to the Jerall Mountains, and the description says only that it is erected near the gate to the Jerall Mountains, and neglects to mention which one. Please clear this up. Thank you. -- Interrupt feed 00:12, 17 April 2009 (EDT)

Done. –RpehTCE 07:36, 30 April 2009 (EDT)
i have a little problem with the statue : i somehow glitched the game, which allowed me to complete the main quest without going into Mancar Camoran's paradise nor the great gate of oblivion. But then, there's no gates ruins near Bruma, the guards of the other town are still waiting near the castle, and i don't have my statue... — Unsigned comment by 90.14.82.22 (talk) at 14:19 on 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Broken graphics?[edit]

While doing the quest "Accidents Happen" for the Dark Brotherhood, the Mage's Guild and the Fighter's Guild buildings both showed up as the yellow diamond icon with the exclamation mark. I can still go in them and everything but does this happen often? How can I fix it?

See may response here --SerCenKing Talk 14:56, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
I see your response, but the only add-on I had when those disappeared was the Fighter's Stronghold. Other things have disappeared as well, like the Chorrol gate and the upstairs of the Merchant's Inn... This thread is probably on the wrong page now. Savas 14:54, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Guards Fighting[edit]

I was coming back from the necros cave to sell at bruma when i saw these two guards shooting at eachother. It was wired because when the one of the guards died the other guard starrting shotting at me.But when i killed him it counted as a murder…— Unsigned comment by 24.167.157.121 (talk) at 02:04 on 23 August 2009 (UTC)

If they were the archer guards, then this is a known issue. Popular belief is that they inadvertently hit each other with arrows, thus causing them to engage with one another. –Elliot talk 02:04, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
I believe (if it are those archer guards that are fighting) it is caused by one guard chasing a deer. Hunting deer is somehow counted as an assault. The other guard spots that and therefore they start attacking eachother. Near Bruma is the only place where you'll find two Imperial Legion Foresters close to eachother and where such an occurrence might happen. Wolok gro-Barok->T->C->E 10:45, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Ghost[edit]

One of the rumours I hear in Bruma is about a ghost on the path to Chorrol. I can't remember the exact phrase, but can anyone shed some light on this? Is it true? Has anyone else heard this?

They're talking about the "Wraith of Lord Vlindrel". See the related quests section on his article. --GKTalk2me 20:50, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Character statue (2)[edit]

is there any way for the statue to change after i finish the main quest? i had some gray robes, gray robe hood and Ruma Camorans staff, but i want to see the statue with full orcish (minus the helm and shield) with my elven claymore.— Unsigned comment by 98.142.49.26 (talk) on 19 December 2009

Unless you what to load and old game or fiddle with the script i dont think there is a way— Unsigned comment by Trotski (talkcontribs) on 22 December 2009

Vampire Statue[edit]

When I went to Bruma to check out my statue, other than the oddly placed staff, the statue's face was red. It looked like the red aura on your character when you are taking sun damage. I was a vampire when I did the Great Gate quest. Could my statue be taking sun damage? --DKong27 Talk 13:13, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I dont think the statue is even alive (is it?) btw where is the statue I have finished the main quest and walked around bruma but I have never seen my statue can someone tell me where the statue is or near where it is? --Arny 15:25, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
sorta see the battle for bruma quest talk page...or mabye the next and just run around bruma and you'll evntulally find it--GUM!!! 15:42, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks now I know where it is --Arny 15:46, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
I suspect your statue is taking sun damage; if you see the Great Gate quest page you see that your statue is actually an NPC; it can be ressurected and killed using the console. Therefor it's quiet possible that the statue is taking sun damage. If anyone else is a vampire and can give us more information this could be added somewhere. Is the statue only red during the day? It seems this statue may soon need its own page; there are loads of wierd things about it. The Greatness 18:00, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
This is a stupid question but does this mean it can die? then I think my statue might have dies or is it essential? --Arny 19:14, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
It can only die if you use the console. Just a weird bit of trivia. The Greatness 20:38, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
So, I did a bit of testing with this. I could not always get the same occurrence, but I could reliably get it by taking my first amount of sun damage near the statue. This includes fast traveling to the gate, and waiting until morning to take damage. Also, staves look really bad on the statue... --DKong27 Talk 21:20, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Bruma Symbol[edit]

I could not help but notice that the Bruma Symbol and the shields and stuff looks like the symbol of Prussia. — Unsigned comment by 173.59.255.204 (talk) at 02:40 on 5 July 2010

Yes and no. It does look like Prussia's symbol, but also like the old Savoy one. Eagles have been used time and time again, from the Roman Legions to The Hasburg empire and Napoleon... I don't think you can pinpoint it on one family/state. --SerCenKing Talk 09:41, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Grabbing lanterns a crime?[edit]

In castle Bruma, I grabbed one of the lanterns hanging on the ceiling, and the guards attempted to arrest me with a bounty of 5 gold. I checked my bounty beforehand and talked to a guard, but I was clear. If I grab it 2 times, it gives me a bounty of ten gold, and so on and so forth. also, when I grab it, the adoring fan says "Stay. Go. What do I care?". Any explanations? --The Grey Arrow

I've never heard of grabbing a static as a crime. The phrase spoken by the Adoring Fan is generally used to signify trespassing though. --DKong27 Talk Cont 01:44, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Oblivion Trailer[edit]

I've was "walking" through Chorrol in the CS and noticed a XMarker by the south gate named "E3ChorrolStreetScene" and realized that it was the camera position in the trailer from showing Chorrol. I've never found the Bruma equivalent when the city is on fire, anyone who knows about this or is it a whole other worldspace or does it even exist? MrL 13:12, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

oblivion trailer bruma arena[edit]

in the oblivion trailer, at 00:20 you can see that in bruma there is a round building with yellow and blue flags. its clear that is its an arena but its not clear why its not in the game itself. a strange thing is that if you look at the arena from the trailer there are more "doors" leading into it in comparison to the imperial city arena, my guess is that this "doors" may have led into the right and left empty zones that are seen in the arena battlefield or maybe it was a way into the "royal seats" that you can see in-front from the gambling booth area or behind the leading corridor to a match — Unsigned comment by Mdr42lifelemons (talkcontribs) at 12:40 on 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Sewers?[edit]

So, the article for Bruma states that there are sewers that connect with the natural caves underneath the town, and that they have Trolls in them. Umm...where in the game would you find the entrance? Is this referring to Bruma Caverns? Because there aren't any Trolls there, just Rats and Mud Crabs. And it's not really a sewer, just a basement with a door that leads into a cave. Or did whoever put that information there either make it up or accidentally put it on the wrong article? Bauglir100 (talk) 10:31, 4 December 2014 (GMT)

That's actually from Oblivion Mobile. It shouldn't be transcluded to this page. —Legoless (talk) 20:15, 4 December 2014 (GMT)
Then there should've been a note or something stating something like "only in the mobile version", because how was I supposed to know that? Bauglir100 (talk) 23:49, 4 December 2014 (GMT)
It's fixed now. —Legoless (talk) 01:01, 5 December 2014 (GMT)

Statue Equips[edit]

According to some places on UESP, the character statue equips the best items you have in your inventory when it spawns. However, for me, it equipped the lowest power weapon in my inventory. I had in my inventory a Perfect Amber Longsword and a mod-added dagger, both with over 25 attack damage. The item it equipped, however, was a Hatred's Soul, which, based on my skill levels, only had a power of 8. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 05:16, 23 March 2015 (GMT)
