Discussion[edit]

I've edited the page so that it's more constistent with the attributes and other general info pages. This also makes it easier to read compare the different birthsigns. - TomB

After testing with the Tower birthsign, I found it doesn't actually allow you to make reflect damage enchantments. Perhaps it was available as part of a mod or patch? - Bobucles

It actually isn't possible to make custom reflect damage enchantments. Only spells. See here. Also, sorry about using the link as an external link. Still learning the basics of editing. --PinballWizard 12:25, 7 June 2009 (EDT)

Individual Birthsign Pages?[edit]

I just noticed that there are also individual pages for each of the birthsigns (i.e., Oblivion:The Apprentice, Oblivion:The Atronach, Oblivion:The Lady, Oblivion:The Lord, etc.) which is obviously quite redundant. (Not to mention that they also all have redirects such as Oblivion:Birthsigns:The Apprentice... those will probably disappear in my next round of cleaning.) Does anyone see any need to keep the individual pages? Is there any preference for individual pages over one combined page? My inclination is to merge any content from the individual pages onto the Birthsigns page, then change all the individual pages into redirects. Any other opinions? --Nephele 18:16, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

There's only a couple of birthsigns that there's much to say about. (Atronach, Apprentice, for example.) How much can you really say about The Steed? I'd say no need for their own pages, except perhaps as redirects to this one. --TheRealLurlock 18:30, 6 September 2006 (EDT)
Frankly, I vote in favor of their deletion. I read over the pages you linked and found no new information (that is, nothing that is not on the article already, or was not removed when I cleaned it up a few days ago), and thus, cannot see them in any light other than that of a pointless redundancy. Are they linked to anything? If not, deletion seems the obvious choice. -- Booyah boy 18:32, 6 September 2006 (EDT)
To provide some extra background here, I looked through the page history. It appears that up until June 4 2006, Oblivion:Birthsigns was basically just a list of links to the 13 individual pages. On that date, the content of all the individual pages was copied over to Oblivion:Birthsigns, replacing the links. So other than a few minor edits made to the individual pages since then, they basically have redundant content. I'd prefer to create redirects, though, rather than deleting them, for two reasons. First, they do provide the edit history for content on the Birthsigns page. Second, those pages have all been accessed a fair number of times (3000+). There's no way to tell if that activity was mostly before June 4 or not, but it seems safest to keep them there in case there are people looking for a page on 'The Atronach', for example. --Nephele 18:43, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

What is the best birthsign for a redguard/mage?[edit]

I'm not sure I chose the right birthsign.--ShakenMike 14:54, 21 February 2007 (EST)

What Birthsign to choose is a matter of opinion. Obviously you would not choose something like the Warrior for a mage, but other than that there are few wrong awnsers. What Birthsign did you choose? Pappasmurf 11:49, 22 February 2007 (EST)
I chose the Mage Birthsign and I'm doing better this time.--ShakenMike 15:22, 22 February 2007 (EST)

About the Atronach Birthsign[edit]

I have a character with the Atronach birthsign. I noticed that about level 19 or so, he began to regenerate magic on his own without any enchantments. I think this started happening after I raised willpower a few times. Has anyone else had this happen or know about it? I think it must be a glitch. --El Macho Baracho 12:48, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

This can happen if you die and are "resurrected" in a glitch with the Molag Bal shrine quest169.145.3.12 14:41, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
The Molag Bal quest glitch that results in the removal of birthsign bonuses can be corrected using the console command player.addspell <formID>. The ID's can be found on the birthsigns page.
Lucky you ;)! by the way I have no idea how that would happen.--Willyhead 12:56, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

(untested)When finishing the quest in the fighters guild you may pick up the BlackWood Ring of Silence (150 fire dmg on self). If you have 100% spell absorb constantly between all your other gear and this birthsign that you would have infinite magicka. (please test and verify) — Unsigned comment by 68.63.18.238 (talk)

I don't think that would work. Any enchanted armor/jewelry effects (Negative or Positive) are not affected by magicka resistance/absorption.--Willyhead 10:08, 20 August 2007 (EDT)

The Unofficial Oblivion Patch disables spell absorption and reflection for blessings from altars and wayshrines of the Nine Divines. The note on blessings for magicka refills should probably reflect this, as it is a major change from Morrowind and vanilla Oblivion (for an Atronach user). --KnightOwl 15:23, 24 May 2008 (GMT)

Pretty unrelated question - Does using the atronach doomstone grant me the 150 point magicka bonus?

--78.69.109.203 14:19, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

See Doom Stones. --Timenn-<talk> 14:29, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Emperor's Statements?[edit]

What about the Emperor's statements on each birthsign? Based on the information currently in each section, it would seem like a logical addition for interesting information. --Davehoekst 14:35, 10 April 2008 (EDT)

Good idea. Here's the dialogue; I'm afraid I don't have the energy to do the edits right now. I've been on the site all darn day and need a break.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Mage shall light your way on the paths of glory.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Apprentice shall serve you at the forge of destiny.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Atronach shall aid you with your appointed burden.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Ritual shall speed you on your star-patterned path.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Warrior shall prove a stalwart companion when fortune fades.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Steed shall speed your progress on the road to destiny.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Lady shall fortify you in your quest for glory.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Lord shall prove a faithful patron in your quest for glory.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Thief shall guide your steps on the road to destiny.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Lover shall sweeten your journey as you confront your fate.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Shadow shall hide you from destiny's cunning hounds.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Tower shall prove a stout refuge in time of need.
Your stars are not mine. Today the Serpent shall sting the foes who seek your blood.

Will do it myself then. Seems easy enough. –-Davehoekst 14:43, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
Done. Feel free to edit and change as you wish. –-Davehoekst 15:00, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
Looks good! Thanks! –RpehTCE 15:29, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
Not a problem! I try to help out in any way possible. At least ways that run the least risk of rocking the proverbial boat. I was thinking of adding quotation marks to the statements, what do you think? –-Davehoekst 17:54, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, might be a good idea. I'd also think about removing the "Your stars..." bit since it's common to all of them. I only posted that bit for completeness. –RpehTCE 00:57, 11 April 2008 (EDT)
Removed the specified words and added quotation marks. It's surprisingly hard to navigate this particular article, so I might have missed one. –-Davehoekst 13:39, 11 April 2008 (EDT)

Even more Magicka with 127 intelligence?[edit]

I haven't tested this, but wouldn't it be possible to get 127 intelligence instead of just the 117 from Hermaeus Mora + Scales of Pitiless Justice by using Felldew to get you intelligence to 115 before doing the Hermaeus Mora quest? It would certainly be an interesting challenge to get the highest amount of Magicka possible with all potions/items/enchantments etc. obtained without the use of console cheats, ie. that are all obtainable by normal means. I'll try to get my Magicka as high as possible some time and post my results back here. --Insane 18:09, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

Don't forget the Nights of the Nine permanent blessing. (Intelligence + 5, Blessing of Julianos I believe) 132 Intelligence!

npc birthsigns[edit]

from what i understand, birthsigns are rare on npcs and can have some strange effects but i think adding a centralised section/page on them would be useful and/or make interesting reading. Varka 03:58, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

Technically, no NPCs have a birthsign although two of them havee abilities relating to them. The only two are Mankar Camoran (who has the Mage ability of Fortify Magicka +50) and Martin, who also has the Mage ability as well as the Warrior's Fortify Strength and Endurance +10. Since those are the only two, I'm not sure it's worth making a new page. –RpehTCE 05:05, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

Atronach Birthsign Mistake?[edit]

I may be wrong but I believe that the calculation of maximum possible permanent magic in the Atronach bithsign section ignores that to wear the Necromancer's Amulet, you can only wear 8 other enchanted items as it takes up the amulet space.

This would make the max magic (with the Scales and the Oghma) 1032, not 1082. However, with the Blessing of Julianos (Knights of the Nine), this can be raised to 1042, and using the Shivering Isles 'Addiction' quest to raise intelligence to 115 before Mora's quest the actual max permanent magic is 1072.

Good points. Although in re-examining this information, I realized that having it buried in the tips for the Atronach birthsign didn't make the most sense, so I moved all of the information (including your additional tips) to Oblivion:Magicka#Maximizing Magicka. --NepheleTalk 01:43, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

The Atronach[edit]

I'm playing as under the Atronach birthsign and whenever i absorb a spell, i turn purple. Almost everytime i go to a chapel altar and the spell hits me, i turn purple. Does this mean that i dont get the blessing?Amantius Allectus 11:06, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

Yes, the blessing can be absorbed like any other spell. Before activating the altar I would suggest removing any items that enhance your spell absorption, and then wait for a day if it gets absorbed. Unless you are role-playing as someone who can't wait (or have vampirisim), it shouldn't ever negatively affect you.--AlphamanT 15:55, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

Minor Edit on Lord Birthsign[edit]

Just so everyone who reads this is aware, I made a minor change to the Lord Birthsign. Previously, the page said that the 'Blood of the North' Lesser Power was an Expert-Level spell. That's false. I checked it out, and a Restoration spell with the same Magnitude and Duration is actually a Journeyman-level spell, not an Expert-level spell. It's a minor edit, I know, but I feel that any edit should at least have a footnote somewhere, just so we keep track of what was changed and why.Swk3000 15:18, 13 March 2009 (EDT)

It's usually possible to track changes through the page history but it doesn't hurt to post an additional explanation. I checked it out too, and it's definitely a Journeyman spell. Thanks. –RpehTCE 09:12, 15 March 2009 (EDT)

Serpent/Sithis?[edit]

There was a note added recently under the Serpent sign referring to the constellation Sithis (see the second to last paragraph of this page). Do we think this is worth mentioning on this particular page? –Eshetalk 00:45, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

Given the tone of the rest of the page, I would say that particular note belongs only in Lore, not here. The remainder of the page is dedicated to game mechanics and the benefits/drawbacks to each sign, not random facts about them. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 01:05, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
I'm with you, to be honest. Just wanted to see what other people thought before I killed it ;). –Eshetalk 01:11, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
I agree. It doesn't belong on there. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 01:18, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
Mmkay, down it goes. Thanks for the feedback! –Eshetalk 01:27, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

Aprentice birthsign[edit]

Is it posible to have the 100% weakness bonus for customs spells like a heal 10 pts with drain 1 fatig in the ps3 game of the year version soo that it can actually heal 20 pts??Please answer and thanks in advance^_^.-ridemied

No. It used to be possible, but it was fixed in one of the earlier patches. A patch that is automatically included in the GOTY edition. --Timenn < talk > 09:30, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Mankar Camoran's Birthsign[edit]

Is there any way to code this custom birthsign of his into your character? If so, how? --58.69.90.60 12:05, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

I haven't tried this, but the Console command player.addspell 528f should do it. rpeh •TCE 13:43, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Apprentice Doomstone[edit]

Where is the apprentice doomstone? Me and my friend have been lookin for it and we can't find it..... Any help? — Unsigned comment by 67.161.42.218 (talk)

Here's the link to the map. A full list of the doomstones can be found on this page. Vesna 07:20, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

because of the most recent edit (that was undone)[edit]

If you were a Breton with the Atro. Birthsign, first you would have 50% chance to absorb magic, than a 50% chance to resist which would leave you with a 25% chance of magic making contact right? 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4 basic probability, but is this how the game handles the situation? MikeTalk 17:22, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Well, it dosent quite work that way. the 50% resistance to magic is a flat rate Half damage, so long as it dosent get absorbed. You still have a 50% chance of getting hit, although if it does, it only does half damage. 184.77.194.254 00:49, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
I think a more simple way of putting it is that the spell has a 50% chance of being absorbed, but if it does hit, it will only be half the damage Corvus 01:10, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

The Atronach[edit]

i know this is a stupid question but ive never chosen The Atronach as my birthsighn before and i was wondering does the 50% absorb thing work with your own spells (like healing yourself).--(Theblack7 14:07, 3 August 2010 (UTC))

Only Telekinesis. The rest of the spells that you cast cannot be absorbed. --S'drassa T2M 15:32, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Special NPC birthsigns[edit]

If I remember correctly (it does happen occasionally), there are some special NPC birthsigns mentioned elsewhere in these pages. One is for hedge wizards and conjurers, and the Grey Prince has one. Where can I find those hex codes? Is the hedge wizard one the same as for Mankar? SirNotAppearing 22:49, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

You can find them in the construction set. 64.72.40.104 00:22, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Another tip for Atronachs[edit]

I discovered that having my character eat 8-10 flax seeds as quickly as possible will replenish all my Magicka over a few seconds time. The durations of the rapid fire doses seem to be somehow cumulative. It seems to be much more effective than taking one dose of flax seeds and pausing for a few seconds then taking the next. I don't recall seeing this information elsewhere. SirNotAppearing SirNotAppearing 17:45, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Thief vs Warrior[edit]

I've done some calculations (I'm that kind of person) and it seems to me that the thief birthsign gives a higher damage output than the warrior birthsign.

Base damage for melee weapons increases on the following scale:

( 0.75 + Strength * 0.005 )*( 0.2 + ModifiedSkill * 0.015 )

+10 strength * 0.005 = +0.05

+10 luck ~= +4 skill = +0.062

which makes increases to luck about 20% better than increases to strength, when limiting the subject to damage output.

Of course, warrior-borns make better tanks than thief-borns due to endurance, but thief-borns can theoretically deal more damage early on. With the increase to speed, a thief-born is more adept at hit & run attacks.

Being a noob, I'm not sure of the noteworthy-ness of this observation (I guess these differences will even out after a few levels), but thought I'd write a note here, perhaps for someone else to decide if its worth adding to the article. PouncingAnt (talk) 11:59, 10 February 2013 (GMT)
