Disambiguation needed[edit]

This page is about Azani Blackheart the quest. We need another about the person, and a disambiguation page to distinguish between them. Anyone want to take care of this? --TheRealLurlock 00:53, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Alright, all fixed. All links should be correct now as well, but I left a disambiguation page just in case. --TheRealLurlock 13:38, 25 July 2006 (EDT)

Blackheart's Ring Bug[edit]

A bug i encountered in this quest is that after blackheart is killed and the ring taken Modryn Just keeps saying Azani is dead and our brothers avenged. He will not take the ring or end the quest. Please help

I have that glitch too! He's back in the guild hall, won't take the ring... All that I've found out is that it doesn't matter if you have the ring equipped or not. Ugh. All the quest-related discussion options are gone also...71.219.242.196 16:49, 16 March 2007 (EDT)

Do you know what stage exactly you're at in the quest? Or in other words, what was the most recent quest update you received for the quest? As long as you've received the update "Oreyn and I have found and defeated Azani Blackheart," I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to give Oreyn the ring. Does the quest topic "Blackheart's Ring" show up in Oreyn's list of topics? --Nephele 18:53, 16 March 2007 (EDT)
Yes Our last Journal Update was we have defeated Azani blackheart. Hes back in the guild hall and we cant think of anything else to do. Weve tried getting kicked out of the guild but Azani blackheart never comes up in his topics. — Unsigned comment by 24.151.55.156 (talk)
The topic you're looking for isn't "Azani Blackheart" but "Blackheart's Ring" --Nephele 13:23, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
I don't have the Blackheart's Ring topic... And I've gotten the "We have defeated Azani Blackheart" journal entry. I have no idea what to do... I thought that maybe I'd forgotten to get his sword, so I went back to the place and his body wasn't there. 71.219.242.196 16:05, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

The only thing I can think of is to check that the topic isn't at the bottom of the list, sometimes you have to scroll down the list of topics to find the right one. If your playing on Pc you could use a console command to fix it. Grandmaster z0b 02:08, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Try using this Console Command SetStage FGD05Oreyn 60, or if that doesn't work SetStage FGD05Oreyn 100. Grandmaster z0b 00:36, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

I had to setstage to 60 like suggested but would still not allow transfer of the ring. Finally setstage to 100. Had to go on, Tired of messing with this quest. Thanks for the help. Serafin April 17 2007

Your welcome, glad it helped. Grandmaster z0b 04:09, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

There's a problem where you can get this same glitch on the Xbox 360, but there's no console workaround. I figured out the error occurs because you loot the corpse of Azani Blackheart and take the ring before talking to Oreyn and getting him to say "Blackheart is dead and our brothers avenged" or whatever. So, if you're on the 360, reload to the save before killing Blackheart, kill him, and then immediately talk to Oreyn. He'll say his line, then you need to talk to him and go through his gold conversation topics, at which point he'll suggest looting the corpse for the ring. Proceed normally from here, and everything should be kosher.

Arpenia Bug[edit]

I have a problem with Oreyn. He and I travel to Arpenia and search the entire place, I mean completely scale it, and he still says, "Let's look around". He never says, "Azani isn't here" or whatever his reply is. I've tried going to Atatar anyway, but it was no use. Any ideas on how do fix this? — Unsigned comment by 64.53.128.7 (talk)

There's an invisible marker in Arpenia. On the map shown on the Arpenia page, it's in the room shown in the upper right corner (that contains a spiked pit trap), at the right-hand end of the room. You need to make sure that Oreyn is following you and that you are standing near that marker; at that point a variable gets set that tells Oreyn to start in on the next batch of dialogue. Try waiting in that area for a minute or so, then try talking to Oreyn again. --Nephele 13:23, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Thanks a bundle, it worked.

I have an issues on the 360 where I when I push the button thats supposed to open the gate nothing happens. It is the button thats in the room after the first door and around that little corner. I cannot get this to work in any manner that I have tried and I cant really do too much since Oreyn is following me everywhere... I cannot find a fix on any other pages but if anybody know one can you let me know? thanks

I had this glitch, having left Atatar. Oreyn will only accept the ring in Atatar. Find him, follow him (yes all the way back to the thing even if you are at the guild.) and inside the door he will accept the ring. Seems a little clunky in the programming to have it set so a person will only accept a thing in a certain place, for no particular reason.

Bug section[edit]

I deleted this from the last line of the Bugs sections " I found him almost there when I had already completed all of the guild's quests!" Apart from being in the first person I'm not quite sure how you could finish all of the guilds quests if Moreyn is still standing near Atatar. Grandmaster z0b 19:49, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

9/1/2009. I hope someone sees this. I have been playing this game over and over for years, thought I knew all the ins and outs, but I cannot get the push button to work either in Atatar (Dagon). I cannot finish this quest because the door will not open, no matter how many times I push the button, nothing happens. Grrr, I am so frustrated.75.93.168.73 23:18, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Next Quest[edit]

The "Next Quest: Trolls of Forsaken Mine" makes it seem like you need to do that quest next. I couldn't find Modryn Oreyn, so i did The Wandering Scholar and The Fugitives, and then I got a quest marker to go and find him.

I had similar problems, and in fact couldn't do Trolls of Forsaken Mine when I finished this quest, though like the previous poster, The Wandering Scholar was available to me, so I did that. Either the page is mistaken, or there are other prerequisites that decide the order of the quests. Not knowing what the actual variables are, I'm reluctant to change anything specifically, though I'll add a "see discussion page" to the main page. --Robin Hood 18:21, 5 May 2007 (EDT)

Modryn Following You[edit]

I just have a quick question. When Modryn follows you in this quest, can you talk to him and tell him to "Wait Here" or "Follow Me", or does he just follow all the time? (like Ulrich in Corruption) I am going to roleplay having a bunch of followers, but only ones who will stay where I tell them! (I'm on the 360 and don't want to work all the way up to this quest for nothing) Any answer is much appreciated! --Dio 225 10:18, 20 May 2007 (EDT)

Can anyone answer this? Can a PC user use the console to figure it out? --Dio 225 19:50, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

I worked all the way to the quest to find out that you cannot tell Modryn to wait or follow. He just follows you until the quest is done. The followers page could also be organized with "Wait/Follow" followers and "Stalker" followers (who follow you until you're done the quest). Ulrich Leland is also a "Stalker" follower. --Dio 225 23:04, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
Thank you for answering my question...... --Dio 225 23:05, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

Getting suspended from the Guild breaking the quest[edit]

If you attack one of your guild members or get cast out of the fighters guild for any reason, then you WILL NOT be able to finish this quest. Modryn Oreyn will not accept the ring from you.

I didn't remove this, but I can't confirm it. I twice tried getting kicked out right before fighting Azani and then getting back in with twenty bear pelts, defeating Azani and giving the ring to Modryn Oreyn, and there was no problem.

I think what the writer did was get kicked out and also didn't have Oreyn present in Atator04, or got the ring too soon. Either of those were the cause, not getting suspended and reinstated. The blurb also doesn't mention if this happens after getting reinstated. If not, well... you're suspended, so can't complete the quest.

If anyone is able to confirm a set of circumstances where getting suspended/reinstated does break it, please reply. Kivan 16:12, 6 May 2008 (EDT)

I've got the same issue and since Oreyn wouldn't move out of the first Aleyid ruin, I went to Atator to go kill Blackheart myself. Came back, and Oreyn wouldn't take the ring. I haven't tried getting kicked out again and getting back in, but I'll test that now. Hopefully this will get solved soon. 76.103.75.147 21:53, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
EDIT: Gah, same issue. Any help?:

I lead Modryn to Atator and Azani wasnt there. Now Modryn follows me everywhere in the game and i cant finish the quest he is so annoying please help.

The problem I had is that while searching through Atatar I accidentally pick pocketed Oreyn. I did not talk to him until I was right in front of the ruins where Azani is located. As soon as I talked to him I was suspended from the guild. I went down and killed Azani. I then took his ring and tried to give it to Oreyn, but he said i was suspended. So I got re-instated and now he will not accept the ring.

Oreyn Stuck at Atatar?[edit]

has anyone ever encountered the glitch where Oreyn does not leave Atatar after this quest is completed? He stays at the ruins making future quests, impossible.

I Just had the same problem, watch him for a minute, he will head into the ruins, follow him in, get close to him and he should say like "we're making good progress" and he should turn around, out of the ruins, and head back to chorrol. it might be different for you, but he got stuck there after I rushed into the ruins without him going in with me. --68.191.55.184 04:26, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

I had the same problem. He stuck on a place with rats where the only way out is either extremely high acrobatics + jumping (that's what i did), or go all the way back to the place we killed Azani and use the right doors which lead to the corridors upstairs. But i am not sure that would work cause one of the traps was a stone block which felt down so he might felt there. However what i did is that i just left him there (knowing he is essential), went to Chorrol, waited 1 full day and he was back there at Fighters Guild. You aren't supposed to travel together anyway after you give him the ring. 80.240.19.148 02:17, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Attacking Oreyn to get him to follow you gets you kicked out?[edit]

In the quest summary, the description says that you can attack Oreyn while on the way to Atatar and get him to run after you then yield to him once you reach Atatar. However, it later says that if you attack him, you will get kicked out of the guild. Does this mean that if I attempt to attack him while walking to Atatar, that I'll get kicked out of the guild? I want to know because I'm about to do this quest with a level 9 character because I'm trying to get the last two achievements for the Fighters Guild and the last two achievements in the game. -- Interrupt feed 18:42, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

OREYN isn't here????[edit]

I went to leyawin and the marker is set in the fighters guild but he is not here??? idk what to do — Unsigned comment by 98.27.228.147 (talk) on 12 June 2009

The marker points to where Modryn Oreyn is supposed to show up. Try waiting for him to arrive, he is travelling all the way from Chorrol and is probably slower than you are. --Timenn < talk > 06:49, 12 June 2009 (EDT)
I tried to follow him to Leyawin all the way from chorrol and he just disappears outside the city gate. I went to Leyawin waited for him for four days and he never showed up. Tried a new game and everything and he just never shows up. Cant do the fighters guild now. — Unsigned comment by 208.102.86.107 (talk) at 20:39 on 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Attack someone at the Leyawin fighters Guild. Oreyn will appear (although he will be in chameleon mode for some reason) and attack you. simply ask him to yield and then speak to him. — Unsigned comment by 208.102.86.107 (talk) at 21:30 on 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Not searching at all counts as a search[edit]

Upon entering the first ruin, I became overly fascinated with the raising floor trap. I played with it, killing Oreyn alot of times. After a few minutes, he walks up to me and says "Damn, he's not here" Or whatever. Apparently his "Search" just depends on how long you're inside. This should problebly be added.— Unsigned comment by Lucky the Cat Guy (talkcontribs) at 21:42 on 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually, if you read the article you can see that these nearly equate to the same thing. It is fine as it is. —Elliot(T-C) 21:42, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Modryn disappeared[edit]

Switches for the Gates in zone 2 room 1[edit]

I have already completed the game which makes this sound sutpid but im stuck in the 1st room in zone 2 (haelia dagon) and cant find the switches for the two remote gates that you need to open to get into the 2nd or 3rd room any help 86.3.238.55 19:12, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

The gate won't open[edit]

In zone 2 the gate that leads to the other two room won't open. I know you go up and activate switch on the wall bihind the gates but when i do it the gates dont open. This should be added to the bugs also there are meant to be two bandits in the first room of zone 2 and htere was only one does this mean i can no longer advance htrough the guild or is theyre any way to get past this 86.3.238.55 19:46, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

I just tried in-game and the switch works just fine, it must be a bug in your game. Just to make it clear you have to open the gate at L by activating the press block just before it, on the right. If you're on PC the easiest way is to type tcl in the console and walk through the gate. In answer to your final question, if you're on PC you can use the setstage command to artificially advance, if on console try reloading a previous save, exiting the ruin, waiting and fast-travelling. Oh, and there are most definitely 3 bandits in the first room (3 red dots on map). --SerCenKing Talk 20:45, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

My brother and I share the same game. On my brother`s profile the gate won`t open, but on mine it does open. My brother is in the Fighter`s Guild but I am not. We have the Xbox 360 version so there is no console command. How can my brother pass this? PS, in both of our profiles there are 3 bandit in that room. --Argonian8 [User talk:Argonian8|Talk]] 03:49, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Im stuck too[edit]

Ok Im stuck too , I find the remote door opener (the first of the 2 push blocks) without any problem ,after pushing it in it however doesn't do anything. I've tried going in and out of the area , even back outside , and going back a few saves and still no luck. Anybody have any ideas ? I'm on an xbox 360 fyi

Say no?[edit]

I don't have a save to find out, so could anyone tell me what happens (and maybe add it to the page...) if you refuse to take on this dangerous mission that isn't for the Fighter's Guild? Can you still progress further or is it actually essential?

No you have to do it.--Corevette789 18:41, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

essential follower[edit]

I was wondering when i saw modryn oreyn with low health, if he is essential and goes unconcious, or actually dies and you wont be able to advance in the fighters guild? Your new addition to the forum: 112jesse 19:35, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Modryn Oreyn is always essential, as mentioned on his page and this main page. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 19:44, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Azani won't appear[edit]

I went to Arpenia with Modryn, fought all of the raiders inside, explored and looted everything, but I still haven't found Azani anywhere inside. I doubt it's because I haven't found Azani yet because I've already been everywhere inside of the dungeon. Please Help — Unsigned comment by 124.177.54.75 (talk) at 01:15 on 14 March 2012 (UTC)

I assume you mean Atatar? Azani is supposed to be in the room with the chairs and lights on a sort of podium... thing, in this zone. Assuming you've been there, and if you're on the pc, you can use the console, type prid 000372FF (which selects Azani), then type moveto player (which moves him to you) ~ Dwarfmp 01:41, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Cannot enter Arpenia?[edit]

I'm outside the entrance to Arpenia but for some reason the zone will not load, the loading bar fills up part way but then sticks permanently - I've tried reloading from previous saves (but none of mine are from before Oreyn is following me). I don't want him following me around forever but I also don't want to have to abandon the entire Fighters Guild quest line just for one broken area - can anybody offer me any advice? — Unsigned comment by 82.23.163.45 (talk) on 25 March 2012

Oreyon wont leave arpenia[edit]

I cleared arpenia with him, and he says we have to go to atatar, and so i went thinking hes just slow and will catch up eventually, defeated azani, took the ring, and oreyon is still in arpenia and refuses to leave. wont accept the ring either :/ any ideas how to fix?? 66.206.250.16 15:28, 13 October 2013 (GMT)

According to the article, you can't leave him behind; you have to follow him to Atatar. Reload from before you discovered that Arpenia is empty and try again. --Xyzzy Talk 22:40, 19 October 2013 (GMT)
