Mucianus Allias, what's left of him...

Mucianus Allias was an Imperial member of the Mages Guild who served at the Arcane University. Hoping to aid the Guild in its efforts to stop Necromancy, he volunteered to spy on the Necromancers by infiltrating their ranks. The information he provided, while limited, did give the guild "a sense of the Necromancer's scope and power".

When they stopped hearing from him, the Council of Mages became suspicious of Allias and sent a team of battlemages (including Fithragaer) to Nenyond Twyll to bring him in for questioning.

In the quest Liberation or Apprehension?, Arch-Mage Hannibal Traven, who still trusts Allias, fears for his life and asks you to find him before the battlemages do, and escort him back to the university.

At Nenyond Twyll, you will be confronted by Mariette Rielle, who will inform you that, as punishment for crossing the Order of the Black Worm, Allias has been turned into a type of zombie known as a Worm Thrall. You will confirm this by finding him shortly thereafter.

Mucianus is not hostile, but he has an unusually large amount of health at higher levels.

Notes[edit]

  • There are some inconsistencies about the spelling of Mucianus' last name. The most common spelling of his name is Mucianus Alias. However, the zombie you encounter in Nenyond Twyll is named Mucianus Allias, which is also used in one line of dialogue.
    • PC Only The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 2.0.0, addresses this issue. His name gets changed to the more common Alias spelling.
  • There is no NPC version of Mucianus in the game or even in the construction set; he only exists as a zombie.
  • After the quest, you may hear people say: "Something has gone seriously wrong at the Arcane University. I heard that a high-ranking member was killed in some sort of ambush."
