I just finished this quest, and when I looted the bell chamber and got the gauntlets, they only had an armor rating of 13. I have Morrowind GOTY, if anyone else has noticed this on any other platform (xbox, expansion, pc) please tell me and I'll change the stats on them.

Fastest way from Buckmoth to Gnaar Mok[edit]

The article says this: "There's only boat travel to Gnaar Mok so the fastest method is probably just to hike it from Ald'ruhn (or Caldera)." This isn't true; the fastest way from Buckmoth Legion Fort to Gnarr Mok is to cast Almsivi Intervention to Ald'ruhn, take the Silt Strider to Khuul, and then take a boat to Gnaar Mok. — Unsigned comment by 128.61.118.34 (talk)

While technically you're correct, there may be cases when a player might not have Almsivi Intervention spells, scrolls or amulets on their character's person at the time of the quest (perhaps they haven't completed quests or made purchases for them, or they didn't see the value in keeping them at the time).--Hoggwild5 11:41, 9 November 2006 (EST)
He's correct whether you have Almsivi Intervention or not. It is quickest to take the Slit Strider to Khuul and then grab a boat. I've updated it. --Ratwar 11:43, 9 November 2006 (EST)
If you've downloaded the official Propylon Master Index mod, you could also use the Mages Guild Guide in Ald'Ruhn to go to Caldera, then talk to the guy there to transport yourself directly to Hlormaren, which is just a quick jaunt from Gnaar Mok. This I think is even faster, because the travelling takes place almsot exclusively between indoor cells, which load much faster than exteriors. Also, Guild Guides and Propylon teleporters don't take any game-time, while silt striders and boats do, if that matters to you. --TheRealLurlock Talk 15:32, 9 November 2006 (EST)
What guy in Caldera transports you Hlormaren? 74.38.23.12 21:35, 22 October 2014 (GMT)

() Actually, walking is faster, at least in game hours. It takes 5 hours by silt strider to Khuul and then 7 hours by boat to Gnaar Mok; it takes a lot less than that to walk from Ald'ruhn to Gnaar Mok, even with the 2 minutes = 1 hour thing. Magic9mushroom (talk) 14:18, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Dreamers attack?[edit]

Playing the game, the Dreamers standing outside of the major towns don't attack "on sight" nor do they attack you after lowering their disposition to zero. Has anyone else had this happen to them? 68.95.101.6 18:03, 24 April 2008 (EDT)

If you leave them alone and don't talk to them more then needed, there is no reason to fight the Dreamers. Avoid the sixth house topic, and you can all save them later for +1 Reputation each.--BenouldTC 18:58, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
No, you're getting confused. That's the sleepers you're talking about. The dreamers - shirtless men who appear outside of the towns after this quest - cannot be saved. I seem to remember they disappear when you defeat Dagoth Ur. And no, they don't attack on sight. --Gaebrial 05:32, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

Dagoth Gares[edit]

Apparently, if you go to loot Ilunibi prior to (or without) receiving the official quest order from Caius, Dagoth Gares is not there. — Unsigned comment by 76.195.116.41 (talk)

Correct, he spawns per script when you receive the quest. --BenouldTC 21:51, 24 June 2008 (EDT)

Moved from main article[edit]

I've moved this here from the main article; it needs to be rewritten in a more encyclopedic tone and reworded to make more sense. --GuildKnightTalk2me 00:33, 18 January 2009 (EST)
  • you can be a 'corpus cured vampire', if you get vampirism before killing Gares, in other words... corpus makes you imune to all diseases you get AFTER corpus. you dont need to tell caius about your disease(good cause he hate vampires), go straight to tel fyr, pay divayth and solve the thing. — Unsigned comment by 189.4.11.110 (talk) on 17 January 2009

You can't "Turn to the Dark Side" Here[edit]

Dagoth Gares talks about giving you a choice to put your weapon away and making peace. However, regardless what you do, he's going to attack, if he hasn't begun attacking already. "It's a trap!"

Shouldn't the article say something about this, though perhaps without my SW references? 74.38.23.12 23:06, 22 October 2014 (GMT)

More to the point, he and the nearby missive from Dagoth Ur are both sure you really are Nerevar reincarnate, and they invite you to go to Red Mountain and make peace with Dagoth Ur in person, though you'd have to fight his minions to do so. This doesn't appear to be possible. This appears to be the "stub" of a turn-to-the-dark-side quest, and an opportunity to join the Sixth House faction and do a completely different second half of the main quest, which didn't make it into the game. — Darklocq  ¢ 00:00, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Not getting corprus?[edit]

The article's notes mention that you might not get the disease from Gares. Anyone know under what circumstances? The most obvious possibility seems like it would be to leave the cell (e.g. teleport out) as Gares is dying but before the message about his curse is triggered when his corpse hits the ground. This could easily happen if you were in a near-death fight with him, hit him with something with a multi-second effect, then used Intervention or Recall to exit and heal, not realizing your last blow/cast's extended effects actually killed him. Have not tested this directly, but it seems plausible. — Darklocq  ¢ 00:10, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Lost prophecies isn't til later[edit]

The detailed walkthrough starts out talking abouty after you receive the lost prophecies from Nibani Maesa. You don't get the lost prophecies until later and it isn't her you get them from. In fact, the previous quest ends with her asking you to show them to her when you get them later.172.248.226.120 03:30, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
