Going invisible[edit]

I've seemed to find that there are some tricks to going invisible, but I'm wondering whether that could be limited to my version (GOTY PC), or simply be my misunderstanding of part of the game. So I want to see what other players have found. In particular, if you go invisible while being observed by an NPC and/or creature, it may have the effect of immediately ending the spell. You are seen going invisible, so the illusion is immediately broken. That's not the same as the spell failing, which can happen for other reasons. However, you may be in the presence of someone else and successfully cast invisibility. In that case, the person was simply not looking at you. The only way to tell for sure is to be in Stealth mode when going invisible. If your Stealth mode is working correctly, then no one is looking at you. Can anyone else confirm that this is basically right? Fourtoes 13:05, 11 December 2007 (EST)

Well, I'm not sure about this. I have gone invisible in the middle of battles and your enemies would immediately put down their weapons and walk away, giving you a chance to strike them on their backs. --DrPhoton 03:09, 12 December 2007 (EST)
I used Invisibility (Moonshadow) while running from Cliff Chasers. They stopped chasing. --Zander490 21:38, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Stealth can avoid ending invisibility?[edit]

I believe I've found that a sufficiently Stealthy character can succeed at certain actions while invisible without ending the spell. In particular, there is a chance of succeeding in a pickpocketing attempt in which the NPC's inventory is accessed but nothing is actually taken, without ending the spell. There may also be a chance of successful lock picking (but not opening the item) while in stealth without ending invisibility. Has anyone else found this to be right? Frenzying and Hiding to start brawls[edit]

Article states: "One interesting method of crowd control is to cast Frenzy on a group of enemies, and then cast Invisibilty on yourself. Frenzied targets will attack whatever is nearest, and if they can't see you, they may attack each other instead, while you watch and chuckle softly to yourself."

I tried this in Morrowind and it didn't seem to work... Is it possible, or has an Oblivion gamer erroneously written that here?

Note: tried on individuals in the Balmora Mages Guild, and 8 plates, using 100 point frenzy over 5 seconds. They would only ever target me — Unsigned comment by 78.151.85.124 (talk) on 17 May 2010

Yes, I tried the same thing in a couple of places (Ghorak Manor, outside in Caldera, outside in Vivec) and people would only ever attack me. I'll take it off the page. Thanks for pointing that out. rpeh •TCE 21:16, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Easy resting[edit]

When you are somewhere and cant rest because of "Enemies are nearby", just become invisible (even for a few seconds) and you will be able to rest for hours undetected. (Is it a bug or just exploit?) — Unsigned comment by 212.111.4.50 (talk) on 18 feb 2011

No. Just good use of a spell -- much like using a calming spell to use a hostile trainer, when the training would take hours. --Brf 12:13, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
