Non-book?[edit]

Once again, probably should be non-book templated, but can someone check the CS? --GuildKnightTalk2me 20:53, 25 November 2008 (EST)

"%PCName"?[edit]

Do we want to leave it like this or should we replace it? Something like [PC Name], (Player name), etc. --GuildKnightTalk2me 20:56, 25 November 2008 (EST)

We've been leaving them as is so far. In this case especially, since the coded version features the same text. (It actually says "PCNAME" in the coded text - since the code cannot be generated on the fly, this will be the same no matter what you actually name your character.) So for anyone who wants to compare the two to see how the code works, we should leave the text as is. Adding a space or changing "PC" to "Player" changes the number of characters in the text, which will cause a critical error in a Vigenere cypher. There might be some formatting tweak we could use to make it obvious that this text isn't what actually appears in the book. But I think we can overall assume that our readers are intelligent enough to figure out that this isn't the text you'll actually see. (And if they aren't, screw 'em. They shouldn't be trying to figure out Vigenere cyphers in the first place.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 22:44, 25 November 2008 (EST)
Makes perfect sense to me. How about we italicise it, though? --GuildKnightTalk2me 22:48, 25 November 2008 (EST)
That or maybe use <code> or <tt> tags around it. That would really stand out as being code that you don't actually see in the game. Of course it might be distracting - I don't really think it matters that much, but whatever. --TheRealLurlock Talk 23:01, 25 November 2008 (EST)
I like the code tags; thanks! If no one objects, that's what I'll be using. --GuildKnightTalk2me 23:58, 25 November 2008 (EST)
