Angaredhel

Angaredhel is a Dark Elf mage who is the Prefect of Hospitality at the Gateway Inn in Sadrith Mora. He is very insistent that all visitors to the city must purchase Hospitality Papers from him in order to do business or talk with the local residents. However, nobody but Angaredhel himself will care one way or the other whether you have papers, so there's not much reason to waste the 25 gold to purchase them. Several people will indicate as much if you ask them. One person who shares this opinion may be behind a "haunting" that is causing him some troubles at the inn.

He wears an extravagant outfit consisting of a robe, shoes, gloves, a ring, and an amulet. For defense, he carries a glass stormblade, and he carries 200 gold.

Aside from his natural resistance to fire and the sanctuary provided by his ancestors, he knows the spells Rapid Regenerate, Poet's Whim, Vivec's Mercy, Powerwell, Feet of Notorgo, Blood Gift, Blood Despair, Absorb Willpower, Absorb Speed, Absorb Intelligence, Weak Spelldrinker, Reflect, Dire Noise, Medusa's Gaze, Wizard Rend, Dire Weakness to Shock, Dire Weakness to Poison, Dire Weakness to Magicka, Dire Weakness to Frost, Dire Weakness to Fire, Deadly Poison, Sleep, Levitate, Great Levitate, Fire Shield, Great Feather, Cruel Weary, and Burden of Sin.

Dialogue[edit]

  • Greetings:
    • "I'm Angaredhel, the Prefect of Hospitality here at the Gateway Inn. Shall I tell you about my trade? Or do you need Hospitality Papers? Or perhaps you are open to an offer of work?"
    • "Yes. As Prefect of Hospitality here at the Gateway Inn, I'd be happy to tell you about my trade, or provide you with Hospitality Papers. I also may have work, if you are interested."
  • Gateway haunting:
    • "The ghost is in the South Turret bed chamber if you want look for yourself. Head upstairs, then keep heading south and up stairs to the room. It isn't hard to drive it away, but it always comes back. Mage-Mistress Arara Uvulas, Master Neloth's Mouth, inspected the room, but couldn't say why it reappears or how to stop it. Go talk to her if you like; she's always at the Telvanni Council House. She thinks it may be some mischievous sorcerer. If that's true, find out who is responsible, and make it stop!"
  • Hospitality papers:
    • "According to the Collective Articles of the Council of the Great House Telvanni, out-house and outlander guests in Sadrith Mora may not travel in town or speak to or conduct business with citizens, tradesmen, or publicans unless they have Hospitality Papers. This is for the comfort and safety of our guests. As Prefect of Hospitality for Sadrith Mora, I can provide you with these papers for 25 gold. Would you care to purchase these Hospitality Papers?"
    • "I've told you must have these papers. Will you not purchase these Hospitality Papers, and comply with our laws?"
      • Yes, I'll purchase the papers.: "Thank you. And here are your papers. They permit you to travel in town and speak to and conduct business with citizens, tradesmen, and publicans anywhere in Sadrith Mora. Of course, we hope you will stay with us here at the Gateway Inn. Travelers of all professions, factions, and professions are welcomed and made comfortable here."
    • "I see you already have your papers. Good."
      • Not at the moment, thank you.: "Then another time. But I caution you. Do not travel in town and speak to and conduct business with citizens, tradesmen, and publicans anywhere in Sadrith Mora until you have Hospitality Papers. Disrespect for the laws of the Telvanni Council will not make you a welcome guest of House Telvanni."
  • my trade:
    • "I am a mage by profession, an accomplished master of destruction and alteration. However, at present I serve my house and council as Prefect of Hospitality for Sadrith Mora. House Telvanni maintains the Gateway Inn for the comfort and convenience of out-house and outlander guests in Sadrith Mora. For your own safety, unless you are retainer or kin of House of Telvanni, we ask that you not travel in town without Hospitality Papers, and that you not sleep anywhere but here at the Gateway Inn."

Gateway Ghost[edit]

Ask Angaredhel about the work that he mentions to you in his greetings and he will tell you about the ghost that has recently been haunting his inn:

  • work:
    • "A ghost is haunting our South Turret bed chamber. As soon as we get rid of it, it reappears. We can't rent the room, and all our guests are in an uproar. The Mage-Mistress Arara Uvulas, Master Neloth's Mouth, came to take a look, but said she couldn't see how to stop the hauntings. If you can get rid of the Gateway haunting permanently, I will offer you a choice from a number of valuable items from a local enchanter."
    • Gateway haunting
      • "The ghost is in the South Turret bed chamber if you want look for yourself. Head upstairs, then keep heading south and up stairs to the room. It isn't hard to drive it away, but it always comes back. Mage-Mistress Arara Uvulas, Master Neloth's Mouth, inspected the room, but couldn't say why it reappears or how to stop it. Go talk to her if you like; she's always at the Telvanni Council House. She thinks it may be some mischievous sorcerer. If that's true, find out who is responsible, and make it stop!"

At this point in the quest, you can either head upstairs to investigate the haunted room or pay a visit to the Telvanni Court House and see if Arara can tell you more about the ghost. Should you choose to do the prior, and should you moreover choose to kill the ghost while doing so, an understandably annoyed Angaredhel will reiterate what he said before and urgently ask you to head to Arara instead:

  • work
    • "You say you killed the haunting? Weren't you listening? No matter how often it is killed, it reappears. Go. Look. Kill it again. And again. And it reappears. Go talk to Mage-Mistress Arara Uvulas, Master Neloth's Mouth. She said she couldn't see how to stop the hauntings, but maybe she can tell you where to start."

As it turns out, the hauntings were indeed the work of a sorcerer, or rather, sorceress, namely Uleni Heleran, who is less than pleased with the trouble that she was given for traveling through Sadrith Mora without any Hospitality Papers. Even though Angaredhel will give you your reward regardless of whether you tell him who was behind the haunting of his inn, his disposition towards you will only increase if you tell him that it was Uleni. And moreover, his reaction to Uleni's Papers (which appear to be a parody of the Hospitality Papers that he himself is in charge of providing) is quite satisfying in its own right:

  • work
    • "You say the hauntings will stop. How do you know? Can you prove it? What was causing the hauntings? If you want your reward, you must give me a satisfactory explanation."
    • Explain what happened, but withhold Uleni's name.
      • "Well, I'm extremely displeased that you will not tell me the name of the sorcerer responsible. But you have gotten rid of the ghost, so you shall have your reward. I have a Fighter Ring, a Mage Ring, and a Thief Ring. Each ring fortifies the attributes most prized in each of these specialized disciplines. Which ring would you prefer?"
      • Fighter Ring.
        • [Disposition -20; Fighter Ring has been added to your inventory.] "Then here's your Fighter Ring. Good day to you."
      • Mage Ring.
        • [Disposition -20; Mage Ring has been added to your inventory.] "Then here's your Mage Ring. Good day to you."
      • Thief Ring.
        • [Disposition -20; Thief Ring has been added to your inventory.] "Then here's your Thief Ring. Good day to you."
    • Explain what happened, but include Uleni's name.
      • [If you killed Uleni.] "So. You determined that Uleni Heleran was the source of the haunting, and you took care of it. No, no! I don't need to know any further details. You got rid of the ghost, so you shall have your reward. I have a Fighter Ring, a Mage Ring, and a Thief Ring. Each ring fortifies the attributes most prized in each of these specialized disciplines. Which ring would you prefer?"
      • [If Uleni is still alive.] "Well. I should have known. She was quite abusive when she was released. Blamed ME for the whole thing, when it was she who failed to obtain her Hospitality Papers. I will deal with her in my own time. And you have my thanks. You have gotten rid of the ghost, so you shall have your reward. I have a Fighter Ring, a Mage Ring, and a Thief Ring. Each ring fortifies the attributes most prized in each of these specialized disciplines. Which ring would you prefer?"
      • Fighter Ring.
        • [Disposition +30; Fighter Ring has been added to your inventory.] "Then here's your Fighter Ring. Good day to you. And thank you very much for your assistance. And when I speak with my fellow Telvanni, I shall speak favorably of you."
      • Mage Ring.
        • [Disposition +30; Mage Ring has been added to your inventory.] "Then here's your Mage Ring. Good day to you. And thank you very much for your assistance. And when I speak with my fellow Telvanni, I shall speak favorably of you."
      • Thief Ring.
        • [Disposition +30; Thief Ring has been added to your inventory.] "Then here's your Thief Ring. Good day to you. And thank you very much for your assistance. And when I speak with my fellow Telvanni, I shall speak favorably of you."
    • Explain what happened, but deliver Uleni's Papers.
      • [Ghost-Free Papers has been removed from your inventory.] "[Sputter. Sputter.] The NERVE of that outlander! A disgrace to her race! She blames ME, when it was she who failed to obtain her Hospitality Papers. Hmmph. I'll take care of HER! And you? You got rid of the ghost, so you shall have your reward. I have a Fighter Ring, a Mage Ring, and a Thief Ring. Each ring fortifies the attributes most prized in each of these specialized disciplines. Which ring would you prefer?"

The topic 'work' remains open for discussion after the completion of the quest, though Angaredhel has little more to say about the subject:

  • work
    • "You have your reward. Good day to you."

Notes[edit]

  • One dialogue mistakenly refers to him as "Angaredhel the Altmer" and his name is more typical of an Altmer name than a Dunmer name. However, two other dialogues correctly describe him as "Angaredhel the Dunmer".
