Unlabelled map[edit]

Why have we changed from a labelled to an unlabelled map? The new map does not feel very helpful. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:12, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Going by the edit summary I presume because it was newer, forgetting that useful and helpful are much more important things than new and shiny. I have therefore restored it so that people looking at the page can see where it is without having to guess which blank spot corresponds to which of the mentioned locations. The annotated map is both unofficial and wrong (compass has been edited). A labelled map that's accurate would be better, but until one exists, an official map should be the placeholder. Besides, isn't there supposed to be a discussion before unofficial content ends up in lorespace? --Enodoc (talk) 22:20, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
The old version might be unofficial, but I don't see any difference between the boundaries on it and the new one. I believe the incorrect compass direction is due to the map orientation in the game, the same as Skyrim's was off-North and caused/causes a lot of issues with directions on pages, so it is was "correct" until the orientation was established with the first full-Tamriel map. If someone annotates the official version then that would be the ideal solution. The issue with annotated maps was never retrospective, the old maps can remain until a better version is found, or a serious problem makes their removal necessary (which is not the case here); just removing them for the sake of removing them is not a helpful or correct action. I created a labeled map at the same time I uploaded the original one. The intention was to use the unedited map for images and the labeled map for references. I suppose it makes more sense to use the labeled one for everything, and only use the original on Daggerfall:Maps (together with labeled). It should be noted that the Anthology map has a more correct compass direction, and we should be using it to determine the direction of bordering regions now. I was not aware of this map when I started changing them, so all of the Daggerfall region pages need to be checked for accuracy. Sorry for any confusion! —Dillonn241 (talk) 03:04, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
I'd definitely be happy to use that labelled map. It's irritating that the compass is wrong, but as long as the directions are correct in the text, I think we can ignore that. --Enodoc (talk) 01:23, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
Since no one responded here for a week, I went ahead and updated all of the maps to the labeled map I made. I used the unmodified version on pages where regions were irrelevant like Lore:Iliac Bay. Daggerfall:Maps is a mess, so I didn't bother adding it there and simply updated the labeled map.
If there are any problems with my labeled map, it can be updated directly. No need to move and rename things now. If we decide to modify the compass or add a label for the Iliac Bay itself like the old map, I can do it or someone else can. As for the text, I found that very few (if any) of the border directions actually need to change between the Anthology map and original. A lot of them can vary because of how the regions border each other. —Dillonn241 (talk) 01:52, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
