Garlas Agea, meaning "Cavern of Secrets" in Ayleidoon,[1] is an Ayleid ruin in the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil, found between the modern-day cities of Anvil and Kvatch.[2]

History[edit]

During the time of the imperatum saliache, unconfirmed legends associate dark Garlas Agea with the worship of Molag Bal,[UOL 1] which is corroborated by the statuettes of him found in the ruins.[3] The meaning behind its name alludes to the dark, horrific, and perhaps better forgotten secrets of the Ayleids.[1] It later fell into ruin after the Alessian Slave Rebellion, as the burgeoning Alessian Empire toppled the remaining Ayleid cities of Cyrodiil one by one.

Ruins of Garlas Agea

In 2E 582, the Gold Coast Trading Company set up covert operations within the ruins for various questionable activities. It did not prove to be an easy task as the ruin was booby-trapped with giant swinging Akaviri blades and gas traps, which killed many of the workers.[4] They began using the halls as a place to house dangerous and exotic creatures smuggled from Craglorn, such as welwas and duneracers.[5][6] One of the smuggled creatures, an armored troll named Ironfang, was the target of a bounty set up by Laronen, a member of a rival trading guild.[5] The company was transporting the greatest looted treasures of the fallen Imperial City out of the ruins through the western entrance. The Hlaalu merchant running it was assassinated by the Dark Brotherhood. This was done in relation to Morag Tong diplomat Dathus Ildram, who was posing as a high-ranking Hlaalu negotiator and was later tracked down and killed by Naryu Virian.[7]

Laronen hired an adventurer to kill Ironfang and obtain the Gold Coast Company's ledgers as leverage.[5] Captain Jean Apinia, a former member of the Imperial Legion known for her war crimes in Bravil, hid out in the ruins with the valuables she and her soldiers stole.[8] She was tracked down and killed by Razum-dar with the help of the Vestige.[9] Minotaurs were also known to congregate around the exterior of the ruin's two entrances, one of which had been gated off by the company for use of cargo transport.[10]

In 3E 433, the ruin had fallen further into disrepair, with many of its arches broken and its statue of Auri-El crumbling. A group of necromancers came to inhabit the ruins, and there were recently placed offerings to the shrine of Molag Bal inside.[3]
