Empress Caula Voria was the spouse of Emperor Uriel VII, heir of the Septim Dynasty,[1] with him she bore the three Imperial Princes: Geldall, Enman, and Ebel.[1] Uriel VII had two known children to whom she was not the mother.[2][3]

History[edit]

Princess to Empress[edit]

Prior to her marriage to Uriel VII, Caula Voria was the Princess of an unknown fief.[1] In courting Uriel, she was accused of having "snared" him with her "feminine wiles."[1] She was said to have been a beautiful and charming woman, greatly loved and admired by the people throughout her years as Empress.[1][4] Though she is also said to have been deeply unpleasant, arrogant, ambitious, and a grasping schemer.[1][UOL 1] Her marriage proved to be an unhappy one, and Uriel soon regretted their wedding and was repelled by her, which Caula returned in kind. The two detested one another and went out of their ways to hurt one another.[1]

Life and Fate[edit]

The Imperial Geographical Society reported in 3E 432 that Caula Voria had passed way more than fifty years prior to their report's publication: circa 3E 383,[5] which would have been around the time of her son Enman Septim's birth.[4] However, other explicit sources exist, which tell that the Empress lived well beyond that date, stating that she had been imprisoned by the Temple of the One under orders the False Emperor, Jagar Tharn.[6] Further, that she elected to retire from public life due to the exhaustion accrued from the Imperial Simulacrum ordeal.[4] In the time after Vvardenfell had opened up for settlement and the Imperial Legion had garrisons in that land (which started circa 3E 414), Rolard Nordssen, a researcher and fellow of the Imperial Society, had received the Empress's endorsement, which afforded him the full cooperation of the Imperial authorities throughout his expedition to the Dwemer ruin of Kemel-Ze.[7] Caula Voria's death was considered to have occurred "long ago" by 3E 433.[UOL 2]

When visiting Uriel VII's grave after the Fourth Era had begun, Caius Cosades of the Emperor's Blades accused Voria of having been a "scheming witch," uttering: "may she die again tomorrow."[UOL 1]

Notes[edit]

  • A maternal connection to Caula Voria for the Crown Princess Ariella Septim has not been spelled out. Ariella's heir apparent status indicates she is of legitimate birth, and Uriel is made out to have married only once per A Life of Uriel Septim VII. It is reasonable to assume Caula Voria was her mother.
