Deathbrand treasure map isn't on the pirate capitan's corpse

Treasure seekers?[edit]

Since completing this quest, I have twice found dead reavers on the doorstep of Severin Manor, and both times they've been carrying a copy of the book Deathbrand. I suspect that this is related, but can anyone with the PC version verify? 70.122.236.143 21:48, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

Level 36[edit]

The note about being level 36 to get this quest is more than likely true. I just read the Deathbrand quest for the 2nd time moments after turning level 36 and lo and behold I just now got the quest. If some one else finds the same thing I would say it is verrified.--Zar Pof (talk) 01:11, 9 February 2013 (GMT)

water vortex[edit]

When doing the Deathbrand quest, i observed a water vortex on the sea surface. It appeared when i swam from small offshore islands towards the seaside where the treasure chests happen to be. It was like ten foot in front of my character and was fixed in direction and distance from it. First i thought it was due to a bug but when i turned around facing the open seas it vanished. It seemed like i was following the treasure seekers tracks when it left an A-shaped wave on the water surface. — Unsigned comment by 83.215.206.185 (talk) at 08:17 on 11 February 2013

Unclear bug[edit]

"If Haknir Death-Brand is defeated before getting the helm then you can't get the rest of the armor." - This bug is in the article, however, it doesn't make much sense. It shouldn't even be possible to get into the Barrow without first obtaining all four pieces of armor, seeing as the key is always in the last chest. Schiffy (talk) 15:54, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

I was traveling Counter clockwise around the island perimeter starting from Raven Rock looking interesting stuff. So, I found the helm, then Skall Village and now the Island with Gyldenhul Barrow. Since I have the lock pick perk "Wax Key" I was able to get the key, and could enter the main Barrow and kill Haknir. So this suggests that had I traveled clockwise from "Raven Rock" I may have tripped the bug ( if the bug exits ). --184.153.64.42 07:53, 24 March 2013 (GMT)

Disappearing map[edit]

The Bugs section currently says that the treasure map may disappear after picking it up. Perhaps this is just confusion stemming from the fact that the map - somewhat unintuitively - ends up in the Miscellaneous section of your inventory, rather than the Books section? 62.78.230.2 20:18, 8 April 2013 (GMT)

I admit that I couldn't find it when I looked, but when I used the console to add the Deathbrand Treasure Map to my inventory I had a duplicate. It's likely that I overlooked the original, especially since I was expecting to find new quest arrows. That's part of why I was looking in vain.

Script lag prevents killing Haknir[edit]

If one suffers from script lag due to mods of a huge savegame, it seems to be mpossible to defeat Haknir. He will respawn once (if the player is lucky) together with the two named crewmen, then disappear, but not appear again; instead, countless more unnamed crew will spawn one by one before Haknir's script ever runs again. (Checked with new savegames and entering the barrow many times anew, after acquiring all the armor, at level 65.) — Unsigned comment by 78.43.155.64 (talk) at 18:00 on 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Book[edit]

Trying to read the Deathbrand book while it's in a pirate's inventory will make the player read an elder scroll. 109.240.166.171 11:00, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Some finer points regarding this quest[edit]

“Note that you will have no map markers and will receive no quest updates until you have claimed the contents of all four chests.” Reading this, a few issues occurred to me. 1. If there are no map markers and no quest updates, it might be a good idea not to start this quest unless you intend to finish it right away. 2. It could be hard to remember later on which chests you’ve discovered and which you have not. 3. I see nothing here indicating that you cannot sell the items you recover from the chests or that they stay in your inventory until you complete the quest. If you sell the items or store them somewhere, this could make it harder to remember which chests you’ve discovered.

Is something missing?[edit]

I just noticed something: there are four chest locations, marked by four “X”s on the map, but under the image of the map, only three locations are discussed:

Tel Mithryn (Southeast)

Raven Rock (Southwest)

Bristleback Cave (Northwest)

Was something left out? --Grimbold (talk) 00:33, 20 May 2020 (GMT)

The first chest is discussed under The Silent Scream. Robin Hood  (talk) 00:42, 20 May 2020 (GMT)

Taking treasure by telekinesis may break quest[edit]

If you are standing outside of the portcullis when taking some piece of the treasure, you are shut outside and not be able to enter. The only way to reopen it is to kill Haknir, but Haknir somewhere inside, so without use of the console there is no way to proceed in the quest.
