Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The Missing Sibling[edit]

Speak to a Dark Slayer, who says:

"The Brotherhood prides itself on always knowing where each Brother is at all times. I could tell you where you were last Tirdas within a foot of dirt. One of our Brothers, however, has disappeared and while on assignment. You will attempt to find (guildmember's name), and, unless (he/she) has suitable excuse for (his/her) absence, you will account (him/her). I trust you have time for this, yes?"

or

"As you know, no one ever leaves the Dark Brotherhood. One Brother has disappeared on assignment, and we must know if (guildmember's name) is dead or alive. You have been picked for this assignment."

Accept[edit]

The Dark Slayer goes on:

"Good. (Guildmember's name) has a cousin in (town) -- a (cousin's description) called (cousin's name) who generally can be found at a place called (building). Talk to (him/her) -- firmly -- and find where (his/her) cousin is. I'll give you (time limit) days to take care of this business and return."

Decline[edit]

The Dark Slayer answers:

"Truly? Well, I suppose you're entitled to refuse an occasional assignment."

High Stakes[edit]

The missing Brother's cousin is eager to help

Travel to the town named by the Dark Slayer. Ask around to find your contact's building, enter it, then talk to the cousin, who will say:

"I haven't heard from (guildmember's name) since (he/she) went off looking for that baron in (dungeon). Weird character, that baron. Never came around during the day, lived in that creepy place. It's no wonder someone wanted him dead. Still, if someone was going to stop my cousin's career in the Brotherhood, I wouldn't have expected him to be that skinny, pale baron."

Travel to the dungeon named by the cousin, then head inside and find your target. However, there is a slight complication; your missing guild Brother is now a vampire, so make sure your weapon is of silver quality or better. There may be several vampires in the dungeon, but when you hit your target, you hear:

"Let me share with you the immortality the baron gave me," (guildmember's name) hisses.

Kill the fledgling vampire, and receive a notification:

The Vampire, (guildmember's name) is at last at rest.

Return to the guildhall to complete the quest.

Reward[edit]

Return to the Dark Slayer once the job is done and he says:

"(Guildmember's name) was a vampire? Well, that does explain things. If you haven't already, you'll want to get yourself healed at a temple, so you don't end up in (guildmember's name)'s bloodsucking family."

Reputation Gain/Loss[edit]

A successfully completed quest results in a reputation gain according to the table below.

Faction/Person Reputation Gain

Notes[edit]

  • Like most other quests for the Dark Brotherhood, there is no specific reward beyond the loot found during the dungeon crawl.

Additional Dialogue[edit]

After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Nobody, but nobody, doublecrosses the Dark Brotherhood."
  • "(Guildmember's name) supposedly went after some baron somewhere in (region) before (he/she) vanished."

If you fail the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Some say that (guildmember's name) is dead. But others have seen (him/her) ... at night only."

If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Funny, the Brotherhood offing that bloodsucker. You think they'd get along."
  • "Apparently, (guildmember's name)'s last target was more than (he/she) expected him to be."

If you successfully complete the quest, the quest giver may later greet you with:

  • "Hello, (player's first name). I hope you've had a priest look at you after that vampire battle."

If you failed the quest, the quest giver will greet you with:

  • "I have nothing but scorn for those who fail their assignments. Begone with you, (player's first name)."
