Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  4. Give the Daedra's heart to the alchemist.
  5. Return to the noble within the time limit and collect your reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Organ Donation[edit]

Noble says:

"I have an acquaintance, an alchemist of some skill by the name of (alchemist's name). In order to complete a project of mine, (he/she) needs a rather rare item -- the heart of a daedra. I won't lie to you; the daedra want this heart back, and you may encounter some of them along the way. Are you willing to risk this, in reward for a generous fee?"

Accept[edit]

Noble goes on:

"You will? Then good luck to you. Here is the daedra's heart. If it is not in my friend (alchemist's name)'s hands in (time limit) days, it will be too old to be used. After you have delivered it, return for your reward. Good luck and godspeed."

Decline[edit]

Noble answers:

"I'm disappointed, but I can't say I don't understand. Volunteering for an assignment involving the daedra certainly requires more bravery and valor than is commonly seen in (player's race) adventurers."

Deliver the Heart[edit]

The daedroth is furious - though not without reason

This quest is more interesting than the usual deliveries one can make for a noble. You must deliver a Daedra's heart to an alchemist in time, but the problem is its brethren want it back. A Daedroth will pursue you on your journey to the town where the alchemist lives until you have either delivered the heart or given up. When you encounter the Daedroth, it will immediately attack:

The daedra hisses, "(player's name), you meddle in affairs beyond your ken. Yes, your name is now known to us. And we will not rest until the heart of our brother is back in our hands. Prepare to fulfill your destiny, mortal..."

If you choose to not deliver the heart, you will lose an enormous amount of reputation with the noble you got the quest from and their associated factions. If you deliver the heart to the alchemist in time, you will suffer a great deal of reputation loss with not only a random Daedra Prince, but also Oblivion and any associated Daedra Princes. Since it is very difficult to restore reputation with Oblivion or a Daedra Prince by means other than waiting for the reputation to increment back to zero, this decision is a more serious one than losing reputation with the noble. Be that as it may, the choice is yours to make. And do not forget, you need a mithril weapon or better to harm a Daedroth.

To complete the quest, locate and enter the shop you were sent to. When you deliver the heart, the alchemist says:

"Oh marvelous. An outstanding aortas daedrae, with minimal decomposition. Hurry back to (quest giver's name) now, (player's first name). There's a lot on (his/her) mind, and if you're not back in (second time limit) days, (he/she) may forget you even left."

Reward[edit]

The time limit given by the alchemist may be very tight, so be prepared to travel speedily. When you return after completing delivery of the Daedra's heart, the noble will say:

"Outstanding job, (player's first name). I knew those daedralings wouldn't slow you down. Your superior skill has been duly noted. Thank you and here is the (random gold) gold we agreed on."

Notes[edit]

  • If you keep the Daedra's heart, it will remain in your inventory and won't vanish once the quest is over, as it is usual the case for quest items.
  • You can find the town where the alchemist lives in your journal.
  • If the random Daedra Prince is Sheogorath, you will only lose 20 reputation with him, but there is no loss with Oblivion, the other Daedra Princes or the Dark Brotherhood and its associates.
  • If the random Daedra Prince is Mephala, you will lose 20 reputation with the Dark Brotherhood and its associated factions.

Additional Dialogue[edit]

If you ask an NPC about the noble, you may hear:

"(Noble's name)? Why, (he/she)'s a noble. Involved in some daedric activity lately."
"(Noble's name)'s a noble, (direction) of here."
"like [sic] so many other nobles, (noble's name) has about a dozen projects brewing."
"(Noble's name) has a lot of faith in alchemistry, like a lot of nobles do."

If you ask an NPC about the alchemist, you may be told:

"(Alchemist's name)? Resembles a sort of (alchemist's description)? I think (he/she)'s (direction) of here."
"there's [sic] an alchemist named (alchemist's name) who works for (noble's name) (direction) of here."

If you ask an NPC about the daedra's heart:

  • "A daedra's heart. It never spoils, but some recipes call for it to be fresh."
  • "The heart of a daedra. Not the sort of thing daedras like in mortals' hands."

After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Dire portents have been read in the sky. The daedric stars glow bright."
  • "The Cabal at the Mages Guild say the daedra are active tonight."

If you fail the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "The daedra appear to be sated, from all astrological signs."
  • "I could almost smell sulphur in the air, but it seems to be gone now."

If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

  • "Lot of activity at (alchemist'a name)'s shop. A big experiment in progress, they say."
  • "(Noble's name) is very happy with a surprisingly reliable (player's race) mercenary."

If you successfully complete the quest, the quest giver may later greet you with:

  • "And what can I do for my brave young (player's race)?"
  • "Hail, hero. I hope you're not worried about those daedra holding a grudge."

If you failed the quest, the quest giver will greet you with:

  • "I was disappointed by your failure to deliver that daedra heart. I expect you thought I had forgotten about it. That's the only explanation for your decision to return to court."
