Old Updaty Stuff[edit]

Okay, we have the same problem here that was on the Quests category, that all the names appear under 'O' instead of seperated by letters. I've fixed it, as demonstrated with Abhuki, but each NPC on this list will have to be refreshed to force the names to split properly. Does anyone know if there's an easier way to get them to refresh rather than having to individually edit every single NPC page? (Already did that last night for the race categories, don't want to do it again...) Anyhow, at least we know that any new NPC pages that are created will automatically be sorted, and the existing ones will eventually sort the next time anybody edits them. Just wish there was a more efficient way to change them all... --TheRealLurlock 12:20, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Oops! I didn't notice you posted a question here. I just basically posted the answer over at your talk page: Nope. Unless Aristeo has done some more brainstorming, he couldn't find a way to do an automatic update.--Nephele 14:11, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Hmm. Just noticed that the sub-categories are starting to get pushed off onto the second page. Right now, you have to go to page 2 to see the Nords, Orcs, and Redguards. I think the sub-categories should all appear on top, especially since there will probably never be any more than the 10 there are now. Unless we add Dremora, or categories for all NPCs in a given city, but that shouldn't be necessary, as there's already pages for Oblivion:Dremora and Oblivion:People, which pretty much do that. There's also divisions of NPCs by profession (Oblivion:Trainers, Oblivion:Merchants, Oblivion:Spell Merchants), and faction, as each of the faction pages has the complete list. The only thing we don't have is a division by gender, but I don't think that's really needed. So I think there's little chance they'll be divided any further. Does anybody know a way to force all the sub-cats to stay on page 1? --TheRealLurlock 18:45, 10 August 2006 (EDT)

Reference ID?[edit]

The NPC formID given in the NPC summary template is for what the CS calls the "Base Object" rather than the reference's FormID. Usually, it is more useful to know the reference than the base object. For example, a console command such as player.moveto 15E9E will not teleport you to the Copious Coinpurse. What would you think about adding reference FormID to unique (not generic) NPCs? — Unsigned comment by Gez (talkcontribs)

Yep. It's something that's already been discussed at Oblivion NPC IDs. The main holdup has been the best way to go about adding the information to every NPC page. It's a task that NepheleBot can easily do, but until this week the bot's rules prevented any changes to article content, and adding a new ID to every NPC page seemed to me to be crossing the line into changing article content. Just a couple of days ago, I finally got around to proposing a set of revisions to the bot rules. Assuming nobody objects, I should be able to get the bot going on this next week.
If in the meantime you'd like to add some writeup to places like Oblivion:Console or Oblivion:NPCs explaining the difference between the various IDs, that would be a big help :) --NepheleTalk 12:47, 9 January 2008 (EST)
After looking around, there is already a page describing the various ID here. --Gez 13:55, 9 January 2008 (EST)
While that page does indeed give the necessary information it's probably a bit technical for the Oblivion namespace. It also contains a lot of information beyond what would be needed. I'd argue it still needs a version specific to the game. –RpehTCE 04:53, 10 January 2008 (EST)
Done and done. And done and done. And by the time the bot is done tonight, on every other NPC page, too ;) --NepheleTalk 00:51, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Inconsistencies with Names[edit]

There seems to be inconsistencies with the category names under Oblivion-NPCs:

Oblivion-Dead NPCs
Oblivion-Essential NPCs
Oblivion-Follower NPCs
Oblivion-Follower NPCs
Oblivion-NPCs-Not In Game*
Oblivion-Permanent Corpses
Oblivion-Respawning NPCs
Oblivion-NPCs-Traveling*

The ones with the asterisks are the odd ones out. I can change the names to Oblivion-NPCs Not In Game and Oblivion-Traveling NPCs; however, the first one is a little sketchy. I am willing to do all the grunt work with changing it, but I just want to get other people's opinions on the matter. –Elliot talk 02:31, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
