Hey, everyone!

I am planning on getting a new laptop for University, as well as for a bit of gaming.

I am currently looking at the Asus S56CM model. It's specs are:

Intel i7 processor
6GB RAM
1 Terabyte memory
24 GB SSD Card
GeForce 635m Video Card
2 year warranty
$949.99 Canadian (Which is more or less at parity with USD)

Any thoughts or concerns would be appreciated!

Looks good. I'm not a huge computer hardware geek, but that video card might be iffy. Other than that, that is a seriously good deal you're getting, especially for a gaming laptop. :D

I haven't checked any reviews, but peeped it on the Asus website and it looks like a pretty spectacular laptop

I took a look at it, and you'll hardly drop dead with that one. 8)

Okay ...

I think this might only be available till midnight, but ...

This is *better*, $800 out the door with tax. Significantly better processor, video card and ram

I think I'm going to buy one

Hmm...! That one's enticing.

One of the reasons I'm looking at Asus is because of their reputation for good reliability. How do Lenovos compare?

I've decided to save my money for the time being but a friend of mine ordered and took on another shift at work to afford that laptop :D

The one thing that's concerning me with the Lenovo is the screen size. Will 14' be sufficient for gaming?

That's a great question. I had the same concern and was thinking when I was using it at home I would connect it to a monitor and my gaming keyboard and mouse. Right now I use a 15.6" screen at the same resolution (1366x768) and that at least is plenty for gaming IME

Ya might want to run over to bestbuy or some such and try out a 14" screen and how it feels for you. When at home you can of course like I mentioned use a monitor

The hardware at that price is just ... awesome though :D Vs. the asus ... a 2.4ghz proc vs. the Asus's 1.9ghz (both Intel IvyBridge), a nVidia 650M vs. the Asus's 635M, and to top it off the lenovo also has 2 more GB of RAM

The 635M is based off the old 40nm architecture, the 650M is a 'true' 600 series card using the improved 28nm

650M:

Does it HAVE to be a laptop?

Want a laptop, get a laptop? I don't have one, but I do some of the most necessary things with my mobile phone. Otherwise I'm, actually, rather reluctant with many of "the latest things".
